sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This week was a bit more quiet which was a welcome change. I was still busy with tour work, as three tours started this week and sending out media kits for future tours. And I worked on some marketing assistant work this week. But I also had some time to game a bit and read. And I won a 25$ amazon gift card, which totally made my day and I already bought a book with it and am deciding which other books to buy.

I am hoping to read some more sci-fi romance books, so if anyone has a good recommendation for a sci-fi romance book please let me know! I am looking for sci-fi romances with well done world building/ sci-fi elements and a good romance or interesting characters as well. Preferable no time travel or gruesome scenes.

And I made a new recipe this week, which I haven’t done for a long time. It was a Curry Soup recipe with tofu that I turned into a curry with rice recipe. It needed some tweaking, but we ended up with a yummy dish, I really liked the flavor of this curry. So next time I make it I’ll take pictures so I can do a recipe post.

Deals

The Daydreamer Detective by SJ Pajonas is free for a limited time! I really enjoyed this book! If you’re looking for a fun cozy mystery with an unique setting then this might be a book for you. The book is set in japan, there are great characters and side characters and a nice mystery.

Dating for Decades is a book I haven’t read yet, but I bought it this week as it sounded promising and it’s on sale for only 0.99$ for a limited time.

Beyond Reach is the second book in the True Calling series and it’s on sale for 0.99$ for a limited time. The first book in the series is free. I really enjoyed this young adult sci-fi romance series!

I recently read Pirate Bound and I really enjoyed it and am eagerly awaiting the release of book 1. The prequel novella, which is 153 pages long is on sale for 0.99$ for a limited time. The telepathic powers are really worked out and it’s a fun book to read.

Picture of the Week

Cheetos-Spinners
A few weeks ago I posted about Ten Dutch Products, in the comments Bookworm Brandee mentions she didn’t see any chips I shared. The reason for that is that I personally am not a big chips eater, although I do buy some now and then. And I have no clue which chips flavors are typical for here or if they sell these everywhere, so no chips made it into that post.
So there are a few chips flavors that I like, so I decided to make a picture of my favorite chips flavour today. This is a fun shaped paprika flavored chips, I really like the taste of these and buy them now and then. What’s your favorite chips flavor or brand?

What did I cook for dinner this week?

An original eNovella set in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine universe!

On the space station Deep Space 9, Quark’s Public House, Café, Gaming Emporium, Holosuite Arcade, and Ferengi Embassy can’t legitimately be called an embassy until the Grand Nagus—namely, Quark’s brother Rom—dedicates it as such. Not that Quark really cares about Ferengi protocol, but a well-publicized dedication ceremony will naturally draw people to the bar. Everybody loves a good open house—free appetizers, half-price drinks, door prizes, etc.—all of which Quark can write off as Embassy expenses. It’s a win-win situation, with him on both sides of the win. There’s even a plan to display the original scroll of the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition—which no one has seen for decades given that it’s been held in protective storage—and charge patrons by the minute to look at it up close. Nothing, of course, could possibly go wrong with this big plan. Absolutely nothing at all…

My boyfriend and I recently watched Star Trek Deep Space 9, so I was really excited when I saw this e-novella on netgalley and requested it and got accepted, yay!

Pretending. I’ve always been good at pretending.
Being someone else is easy, and that ability has served me well these last seven months.

This time, I’ve been hired to be the long lost sister of oil tycoon, and down to earth cowboy, Maxwell Cunningham. Recently, Maxwell’s father passed away and in his last Will and Testament he dropped a bomb no one saw coming.

One of the richest men in the world, left forty-nine percent of his company to a sister my client never knew he had. A woman named Mia Saunders.

Maxwell has a year to find this sister or he loses almost half of his empire to a greedy board of investors. Somehow, he found me and here I am.

Sharing in family dinners, pretending to be someone I’m not and fooling bigwigs left and right. Only I’m finding myself falling in love with a family I can never have. One that will hurt to leave.

Stetsons, soul-searching, and sisterly duty all come into a sharp tangle with twists and turns I never saw coming.

Based on unproduced scripts from the blockbuster TV show Star Wars: The Clone Wars!

The only way to bring down the dark side’s most dangerous warrior may be for Jedi and Sith to join forces.

In the war for control of the galaxy between the armies of the dark side and the Republic, former Jedi Master turned ruthless Sith Lord Count Dooku has grown ever more brutal in his tactics. Despite the powers of the Jedi and the military prowess of their clone army, the sheer number of fatalities is taking a terrible toll. And when Dooku orders the massacre of a flotilla of helpless refugees, the Jedi Council feels it has no choice but to take drastic action: targeting the man responsible for so many war atrocities, Count Dooku himself.

But the ever-elusive Dooku is dangerous prey for even the most skilled hunter. So the Council makes the bold decision to bring both sides of the Force’s power to bear—pairing brash Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos with infamous one-time Sith acolyte Asajj Ventress. Though Jedi distrust for the cunning killer who once served at Dooku’s side still runs deep, Ventress’s hatred for her former master runs deeper. She’s more than willing to lend her copious talents as a bounty hunter—and assassin—to Vos’s quest.

Together, Ventress and Vos are the best hope for eliminating Dooku—as long as the emerging feelings between them don’t compromise their mission. But Ventress is determined to have her retribution and at last let go of her dark Sith past. Balancing the complicated emotions she feels for Vos with the fury of her warrior’s spirit, she resolves to claim victory on all fronts—a vow that will be mercilessly tested by her deadly enemy . . . and her own doubt.

  1. A $25 gift card is awesome!!!

Hmmm, I don’t know of any good sci-fi romances. I feel like I haven’t actually read that much sci-fi period. The only sci-fi romance I can think of was one I wouldn’t recommend because I didn’t think the characters or the romance were done well :-/

I’m not a big chips eater either. I used to sometimes buy these garden vegetable flavored pita chips and bbq sour cream potato chips, but I haven’t bought either in a long time. I do sometimes buy flavored popcorn though! And sometimes these cinnamon flavored sunflower seed cookie/chip things. I don’t really know what they are, but I like how they taste. I get them from a health food type store.

Enjoy all your new books and have a great week!

    • Yes I was really excited to win that gift card 🙂

I have been in a sci-fi and fantasy mood lately and would like to add some good sci-fi books to my to-read list. But it seems hard to find a sci-fi book that really catches my attention, so I am hoping for some good recommendations.

I very rarely buy chips, but sometimes they are nice when i am craving something salty. Oh those cinnamon flavored sunflower seed cookie chip things sound good! I would try those if they sold something similar here.

  2. Glad you had a restful week. It’s nice to get those once in a while to let the brain and emotions settle so you’re ready when a crazy week comes along. Neat that you won the GC and found some good books on Net Galley.
Your curry dish sounds interesting and those Cheetos Wheels look fun. I don’t remember seeing them around here, but maybe they are.

As for sci-fi, I would recommend Aubrie Dionne’s A New Dawn series, Pippa Jay’s Keir, Beth Revis’ Across the Universe series (they are YA, but still pretty good), Starkissed by Lanette Currington, Rinelle Gray’s Reckless Rescue, anything by Linnea Sinclair, No Words Alone by Autumn Dawn, LF Hampton’s Winged Victory, and for just lighter and sexier stuff there’s Eve Langlais’, Laurann Dohnner’s, and Cara Bristol’s cyborgs and Gail Koger’s alien warlords. There! That’s part of what I’ve read. I didn’t include any of my favorite m/m ones, but if you want to know those, too, let me know. 😉

And this is always free on Amazon US so maybe it’s free for you, but I enjoyed the anthology, Tales of the SFR Brigade, that gave me a nice sampling of sci-fi rom writers to try.

    • Yes it was nice to have a somewhat calmer week, but still enough to keep me busy during the day. I was so happy to win the gift card and I got some exciting new books this week.

I’ll have to make the curry dish again soon, it was good. Just a bit sweet and filled with curry flavor and loss of veggies, potatoes and tofu. The cheetos wheels are tasty.

Thanks so much for the recommendations! Will go and look up those books now and see if any of them catch my attention. And sure feel free to recommend me m/m ones as well. I am not opposed to reading m/m romances, I just don’t seem to find them as often.

Will check to see if the anthology is free.Ii recently saw another sci-fi anthology, maybe I just pick it up to get a feel for different authors, good idea!

  3. Congrats on the gift card! As for Sci fi romances… have you read Starflight? You may have, but that one comes to mind… I haven’t read it lol but I’ve heard really good things, and I have it on my list to hopefully read this summer.

Dark Disciple looks fun! So does the DS9 book… I see it on netflix and remember you saying it was good, I’m going to watch them at some point. 🙂
Greg recently posted…Sunday Post #149My Profile

    • Thanks! It was so exciting to win the gift card! I just looked up Starflight and it sounds good, adding it to my to-read list.

Really curious about Dark Disciple and getting to know those characters better! I was excited about the DS9 short story and such a coincidence that I saw it now after we just finished watching the series.
Let me know if you get around to watching Ds9, I hope you’ll enjoy it. The first episode is a bit meh and some characters take some time to get used to, but it’s a great series overall in my opinion!

  4. Glad you had a slower week some times those are just what you need. Yay for the gift card, I wish I could win one…lol. I keep trying but my luck comes in spurts. 🙂 You got some great books so I hope you enjoy them!

    • Same here, I enter quite some giveaways and hardly ever win one, but I keep trying and sometimes I get lucky. It’s amazing when you do win one :).

  5. The only sci-fi romance that springs to mind is an older one. Restoree by Anne McCaffrey, it’s always been one of my favorites though, so there’s that? *laughs*

The Cheetos brand is one we have where I live too, but I didn’t know they made chips! What I usually see from them (and sometimes buy) is kind of a puffed corn snack covered in powdered cheese.
Silvara recently posted…The Most Random Place You’ve Left A Book?My Profile

    • Thanks for the recommendation, will check it out! I think they have those puffed corn snacks here as well, but also this one. This one has a similar texture, but the flavor is very different.

  6. So if you’re looking for some scifi romance books and want to try some new authors and read some first chapters, you should download each of the Portals books. We have them on all vendors and they’re free! It’s a great way to try out some scifi romance. I’ll link to the first on Kobo and there’s plans for many more (I think the first four are out).

    https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/portals-13

(Shoot me an email if you can’t find the others. I know Kobo’s website can be a pain with the search.)

Anyway, I’m glad you had a quieter week and you even got in some gaming! That’s nice to have a little time off. And thank you for listing The Daydreamer Detective in your deals section. Every bit of help is super appreciated! 🙂
    S. J. Pajonas recently posted…Sunday Update – July 3, 2016My Profile

    • Thanks for the recommendation! So the Portals includes the first few chapters of multiple books? I grabbed all four volume’s on Kobo, so I can check them out and hopefully find some new authors.

I already grabbed a sci-fi anthology with short stories as well this week so I can try multiple authors. I haven’t read that many sci-fi romances, so not sure yet what exactly to look for, so collections like those seem like a nice way to start.

Yes it was nice to get some gaming time in last week. I hope some of my blog followers grab a copy of The daydreamer Detective while it’s free :). Will list it next week as well.

    • Thanks for the recommendation, will look it up. I don’t mind it if sci-fi romances have some sex, as long as there’s a good plot as well.

I recently read Pirate Bound which was a good sci-fi romance, I even think it’s in audio if you’re interested.

    • This week so far is busier again, so I was glad last week was a bit of a break. And the gift card win made me so happy! I already bought some new books with it 🙂

  7. I am interested in the True Calling ones-Are they the ones the television series is based on? I did like that show but you all might not have got it over there. I will have to check. Sound like you really like to cook and tweek things so you will like them. I wish I had more of an imagination while cooking-I just mainly cook what my mother taught me. Oh, and congrats on winning the gift card-that’s always nice when you read as much as we all do! I have never seen those cheetos before, but I do like the regular ones. Yay for having a calmer week! Hope this one is as well :)(By the way the review I did today on Rabid Reads is a human/alien romance although not a whole lot of world building because it’s kind of a spin off of the Lux series by Jennifer Armentrout.)
Lorna recently posted…Review: Obsession by Jennifer Armentrout (@Mollykatie112, @JLArmentrout, @entangledpub)My Profile

    • No these aren’t the ones of the television series. It’s a good YA sci-fi/ dystopia romance series, really enjoyed the books.

Yes almost all recipes I make need some tweaking. Either ingredients I don’t like that get removed, ingredients that get swapped for something else or more spices than the recipe said. I never learned how to cook until I had to and then mostly learned myself everything and I use pinterest a lot for inspiration.

Yes it was awesome to win the gift card :). I already bought some books with it. I also like the regular Cheetos, these have a similar texture, but taste differently. They are great.

I’ll check out your review next! I actually have read the first two Lux books, but haven’t continued the series yet.
