sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a busy and productive week. I had a new blog tour start this week and two cover reveals that took place. Also some new sign-up posts that went live. On the blog I managed to get some posts written and scheduled, yay! Oh and I won two giveaways! One from Mom With a Reading Problem and got to pick an e-book :). And I won an amazon gift card from Talk Supe her blog, so it seems I got lucky with the winning this week!

My boyfriend and I are still watching star Trek deep Space 9, we’re almost finished with the last season. We’ve been watching his for a long time now, but we’re still enjoying it, although we skipped a few episodes we didn’t like. And we started watching The Librarian series as well, which is great so far! We watched the three The Librarian movies first and now making our way through the Librarians movies. Anyone seen this series?

I added a new widget to my sidebar, so you can see which book(s) I am currently reading. I am not sure if it stays there, but I am trying it out and see what I think of it. I don’t often talk about the books I am currently reading, so I thought it might be a fun way to display it like that. What do you think of the new widget?

Saturday we visited my boyfriend his parents for mother’s day, we got his mom a faerie figure. We ate a chocolate cake while visiting there and sat outside in the sun. Then after that we had a dinner with my grandma for her birthday. Every year we go to the same restaurant and the food is really mediocre, but as long as my grandmother has fun that’s what’s important. And I got my mom a soap gift box for mother’s day.

Random Picture(s) of the Week

Soepstengels
Another product showcase today and I am curious if you also have this in other countries. They are called “Soepstengels” here, which literally translates to Soupsticks or something like that. They are thin, long and round hard bread like sticks which you can stick into your soup. They also work well as snacks. You can wrap ham around them or dip them in a dip sauce. Or just eat them plain. My boyfriend likes these sesame versions. I don’t like sesame, so I prefer the neutral ones. Do you have these in your country or something similar?

What did I cook for dinner this week?

Bright Blaze of MagicBright Blaze of Magic (Black Blade #3)
by Jennifer Estep

Format: paperback

You can find Bright Blaze of Magic on Goodreads

Blurb:
Bad Things Always Come In Threes…

As a thief, I’m good at three things: hiding in the shadows, getting in and out unseen, and uncovering secrets. I put these skills to work for the Sinclair Family, one of the magical mobs that run the tourist town of Cloudburst Falls.

Everyone knows Victor Draconi wants to take over all the other Families–and kill every last Sinclair. What they don’t know is that I’m on to him, and no way will I let the man who murdered my mom get away with hurting all the other people I care about. Especially when I’ve got places to break into, stuff to steal, and Devon Sinclair fighting right by my side…

I got this one last week, but forgot to mention it

Rest in PeachRest in Peach (Georgia Peach Mystery #2)
by Susan Furlong

Format: e-copy
Source: for review through netgalley
You can find Rest in Peach on Goodreads

Blurb:
In the refreshing new Georgia Peach Mystery from the author of Peaches and Scream, an upcoming debutante ball turns into the pits when a juicy murder scandalizes a small town.

The annual Peach Cotillion, Cays Mill, Georgia’s biggest event, is fast approaching and Nola Mae Harper is just as excited as the rest of the town—even though she’s busy juggling both the cotillion dinner and the grand opening of her new shop, Peachy Keen. But she never expected that plans for the cotillion would end up in the pits because of the cutthroat competition between local debutantes.

When Vivien Crenshaw, insufferable church organist and despised mother of the town’s spoiled-rotten Peach Queen, is stabbed to death, the police turn to Nola’s friend Ginny as prime suspect. Apparently the two had fought over a one-of-a-kind cotillion gown. As Nola steps in to prove Ginny’s innocence she soon finds herself picking through a bushel of suspects, twice as many motives, and at the mercy of a killer all too keen on killing again.

I am currently reading this one!

Down with the ShineDown with the Shine
by Kate Karyus Quinn

Format: e-copy
Source: won in a giveaway from Mom With a Reading Problem!
You can find Down with the Shine on Goodreads

Blurb:
Make a wish…

Lennie always thought her uncles’ “important family legacy” was good old-fashioned bootlegging. Then she takes some of her uncles’ moonshine to Michaela Gordon’s annual house party, and finds out just how wrong she was.

At the party, Lennie has everyone make a wish before drinking the shine—it’s tradition. She toasts to wishes for bat wings, for balls of steel, for the party to go on forever. Lennie even makes a wish of her own: to bring back her best friend, Dylan, who was murdered six months ago.

The next morning gives Lennie a whole new understanding of the phrase be careful what you wish for—or in her case, be careful what wishes you grant. Because all those wishes Lennie raised a jar of shine to last night? They came true. Most of them came out bad. And once granted, a wish can’t be unmade…

Looking forward to this one! Heard good things about it and that cover is so pretty! And a big thanks to Mom With a Reading Problem for the giveaway!

Cracked to DeathCracked to Death (A Webb’s Glass Shop Mystery #3)
by Cheryl Hollon

Format: e-copy
Source: for review through netgalley
You can find Cracked to Death on Goodreads

Blurb:
When a treasure hunt leads to deadly plunder, it’s up to glass shop owner Savannah Webb and her trusty investigative posse to map out the true motives of a killer . . .

It’s the dog days of summer in St. Petersburg, Florida, and Webb’s Glass Shop proprietor Savannah Webb has an eco-friendly plan to help locals escape the heat–a recyclable bottle-crafting workshop taught by reticent store manager Amanda Blake. Turns out, the class is a bigger smash than expected, thanks in part to a pair of staggeringly old bottles brought in by snorkeler Martin Lane . . .

Linked to a storied pirate shipwreck, the relics definitely pique Savannah’s interest. But intrigue turns to shock when Martin’s lifeless body washes ashore the next morning, another glass artifact tucked in his dive bag. With cell phone records connecting Amanda to the drowning, Savannah must voyage through unchartered territory to exonerate her colleague and capture the twisted criminal behind Martin’s death . . .

Couldn’t resist requesting this one as I really enjoyed the first two books.

You can find Engaged in Death on Goodreads

Blurb:
All appears peaceful in sleepy Port Quincy, Pennsylvania–but in this small town, old grudges die hard. . .

So when the former bride-to-be unexpectedly inherits Thistle Park, a ramshackle mansion in her ex’s hometown of Port Quincy, it’s a problem she can’t afford–literally. Abound with stray cats, peeling wallpaper, and nosy neighbors, Mallory is dying to sell it off–once she finally fixes up both the place and her messy life. . .

Turns out, Thistle Park has its charms. But the honeymoon phase is abruptly cut short when an unwanted visitor is found dead on the front lawn. Enlisting the help of her sister Rachel, Mallory vows to unveil the killer before she herself becomes married to the suspect list. . .

This sounded like an interesting new series, so I hit request and got approved!

  1. I saw a few bits of The Librarian films years back but don’t remember much about them. I keep meaning to look at them so I can go on to the series. My dad watched the new Star Wars film and loved it but I’m not too sure I want to see it. Maybe at some point I’ll get round to it. I so need to watch more TV and films this summer!

    • The movies are great, the series goes into a bit of a different direction, but it’s fun too. I am glad to hear your dad enjoyed the new star wars movie. Maybe you’ll eventually get around to watching it too, if you do I would like to hear your thoughts!

  2. Nice, congrats on the giveaways! And ooh you got Down with Shine with your one giveaway?! Great choice! I’m dying to read that one, but I’m gonna have to wait to see if it ever goes on sale or my elibrary gets it.

I still don’t know how you manage to get so ahead on posts. I’ve got 9 posts ready to go right now, and 3 more that are mostly ready. And I think this is the most ahead I’ve ever been lol.

That food thing you showed kind of looks like pretzels. Is that what it tastes like?

Ooh, thank you for posting Bright Blaze of Magic because I was struggling with my cover post for next week which is silhouettes lol. I know I’ve seen that cover before and really liked it, but I had forgotten about it 😛

    • I kept hearing good things about Down with the Shine, so I picked it as my prize for the giveaway. I hope I can read it soon as it sounds good.

I did the Blog Ahead challenge two years ago i think for the first time and then managed to get a whole bunch of post scheduled, as soon as you are ahead it’s just keeping up. Once you are ahead, staying there is easier, I think.
And I scheduled a lot of recap posts ahead, like the reading challenges recap and best books of the year post. Then I add books when necessary and only have to double check everything before they do live.

No the food thing doesn’t really taste like pretzels. It’s hard to explain what they taste like, like hard baked bread in stick form? Pretty plain, but they work great with a dip or something similar.

I loved the first book in the series and now have the next two books, now to find time to read those. They all have a silhouette on the cover. Oh and SJ Pajonas her daydreamer detective cover also have a silhouette on the cover.

  3. Congrats on winning in two giveaways, Lola! That’s great 🙂 Your new books look really good, and I hope you’ll enjoy them all.
We have the soepsticks, too, I can’t even remember what they’re called like now, but we usually have them as a snack with drinks before a dinner party, for example. Either with different dip sauces, or just like that. I haven’t thought of wrapping ham around them, I need to try that.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading!

    • Thanks! It was a big surprise to win two giveaways in a week, very exciting!

Oh good to know they have soupsticks there in Switzerland as well. This packaging had some ideas on how to eat them on the side, which is a nice touch. I haven’t tried the wrapping myself either. Usually we just dip them.

I hope you’ll have a wonderful week to!

    • Secret Baby Scandal was a good one. And Engaged to Death caught my attention when I saw it on netgalley so I hope it’s good.

I am always reading two books, so I wanted a way to display them both. I had to play around with the size and alignment of the pictures to get them to show up how I wanted it to.

  4. The Librarian Movies are awesome, I loved the first and second one. My husband enjoys the series, I haven’t watch them yet. I have Down with the shine and want to read it soon.
I like the widget, I have the one from Goodreads on my side bar. Congrats on doing awesome with Blog Ahead, I didn’t do so good, it’s been a rough week.

Have a great week, Lola! Happy Reading!

    • The three movies were really good and the series is a bit differently, but great as well. We’re really enjoying it so far, we just finished season 1.

Yay happy to know you have Down With the Shine as well! I always feel like I am reading books no one else has, so it’s nice to know others have this book as well.

I was considering doing the goodreads one too, but decided against it. Now it won’t be updated automatically, but I can style it however I want.

I was pleasantly surprised with my Blog Ahead progress, although part of it is due to finishing so many books this week. I hope next week is better for you!

  5. I’ve never really watched DS9 but I was always intrigued by the idea of the space station on the edge of space. I should watch it as it’s on Netflix but one of those characters irritated me when I did watch a few- Quark was it? Or maybe I have the wrong one. It’s been a while… I should give it another try. And I thought The Librarians looked good but I never did get to it…

I’m curious about Faerie Blood as I see Emma’s tweets and I’m tempted to try it. The Soupstengels look good- I like anything I can dip in soup or spicy hot sauce. And I’m seriously thinking of reading Down with the shine- it looks really good. Cracked to Death looks fun too with the glass shop thing, I love glassblowing.

    • DS9 is really fun, it has a very different dynamic than the other star trek series as here they are always at the same place. But it’s really good and has a great group of character. Quark is the ferengi, he is a bit annoying at times, but I like him, he’s quirky. I didn’t like Kira at first, but she did grow as the series continued. There’s a lot of character growth and change over the seasons.
And we’re really enjoying the Librarians so far. Just finished season 1.

I really enjoyed Faerie Blood, it has a lot of action and magic and Fae ofcourse. If you’re in the mood for urban fantasy and like books with lots of action and magic I would recommend it.
I really enjoy the glass aspect in that series, the first two books were great and I was so excited to see the third on netgalley. And I heard so many good things about down with the shine that I just had to give it a try.

  6. The Soepstengels look yummy. I like sesame so I’d try those. 🙂 They look a little bit like pretzel rods. I love stuff I can dip. I need to see if our grocery stores have something similar. Hmmm…I wonder if Amazon has them? Amazon usually has everything. LOL

  7. Your soup sticks are bread sticks here! And yes, we love them. Dip them in cream cheese or hummus! Yum! Sounds like you had a busy week and it’s cool that you won something too. I think I’ve only ever won something from you! I hardly ever win anything. 🙂

For some reason, I never got into Deep Space Nine and I loved all the other Star Trek properties. Maybe I should give it another shot someday.
    S. J. Pajonas recently posted…Sunday Update – May 8, 2016My Profile

    • Ah bread sticks that makes sense. Dipping them in cream cheese or hummus sounds like a good idea!
Same here I hardly ever win anything, so it’s really fun when I do. And now twice in one week, it seems it was a lucky week.

The beginning of deep space nine is a bit slow (and the first episode is just weird), but it gets a lot better after than. We’re really enjoying it overall.

    • I saw it on another blog and thought why not give it a try again. It seems like a fun way to display what I am currently reading.
And yes I am definitely hooked on the cozies. It’s one of my favourite genres now!

    • We also eat them with different things than soup as well, but I do like the name. Yes new cozies got added to Netgalley this week, so I couldn’t resist requesting some of them. An I heard os many good things about Down with the Shine, looking forward to reading it!

  8. Danielle Chapman

I am also doing the Blog Ahead. I didn’t make a goal but i should have. So far I have made 24 posts and I would love to get another 15 – 20 completed.
    Great haul this week! 🙂
Happy Reading! Dani @ Paulette’s Papers

  9. Glad your week was a busy one with your tour business.

Your Mother’s Day sounds fun with your family visits. I had to laugh about your grandmother’s choice of restaurant. My husband’s grandmother used to pick a restaurant with blah food, but she loved it. They would give her a discount on her meal based on her age so she loved getting over 90% off her bill even if we were the ones who bought. 🙂

Very nice to win some giveaways. Hope you pick a good book with your GC and enjoy the other.
I like the current reading graphic in your side bar. I’m nosy and enjoy seeing what people are reading.

If I’m reading your challenge numbers right, you’re doing great. 🙂 I think we’re doing pretty good as well though I still have a handful of posts to get turned in to Shari.

Nice haul. That Jennifer Estep series is one I want to eventually try.

I think we have bread sticks like the soepstingels you are showcasing there. I’ve never bought any, but I see them usually at Italian restaurants in their bread baskets when they offer a variety. They also look like pretzel rods.

Enjoyed your update. Have a good week, Lola!

    • I wonder if my grandma also gets a discount at that restaurant, wouldn’t surprise me. The food is meh and every year my mom says she hopes we will go to a different one next year and every year we are there again. By now we now what food to avoid and what is good, I already got food poisoning once or twice. This time my uncle got fresh tomatoes as part of his dessert with fresh fruit. Ah well as long as my grandma likes it there.

Glad to hear you like the graphic in my sidebar. I do have to change it manually once I start a new book, but I don’t mind as this way I could customize it to look how I wanted it to.

And yes it was very nice to win some giveaways! I already bought a discounted cozy mystery book with part of the gift card money this week, not sure yet what to buy with the rest.

Yes I am doing pretty well with Blog Ahead. I hope to get a few more posts written this week. I am happy to hear you’re doing well with Blog Ahead too!

I have read the first book in that series and loved it. now I own book 2 and 3 as well, but have to make time to read them.

I’ve never seen them in restaurants before, but I do think they are called break sticks over there, at least that’s what some other commentators said as well.

    • Winning something bookish is always great :). And I am doing well with Blog Ahead and made some more progress this week.
