sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This week was a bit less busy than previous week, but it was a good and productive week. There’s a new cover reveal and two new tours open for sign-up on Lola’s Blog Tours. And I got a nice chunk of marketing assistant work done as well. Saturday I defrosted and cleaned our freezer, there was a thick layer of ice, so it really needed a cleaning. Now it’s all clean and free of ice again. I kept procrastinating it, so it’s nice to have finally done that and our freezer looks so nice now.

My boyfriend’s parents got back from their vacation on thuesday. On wednesday they visited to tel us about their vacation and take Quito back with them. They brough some souvenirs for us, which mostly consisted of slippers and chocolate, yay!

We had a lot of big stuff left in our house from my sister, which we never got around to trowing away as it’s all pretty big, like her bed, wardrobe and a desk. They were all old and my mom and clemens already broke them in pieces. Here we can call the town where we live and then you agree on a date where they come and get that stuff that’s too big for the trashcan. We have a word for it here, but not how it translated to english. As we don’t have a car it’s easiest to have them come and get it. So wednesday evening we had to put everything outside, we did underestimate a bit how much it was and we spent 1,5 hours putting it outside. First we had to brign everything from our floor down to the ground floor with the elevator and once we started bringing stuff outside, ofcourse it started to rain. It was a lot of effort, but I am glad it’s gone now.

Oh and we’re afraid that Snickers has another tumor :(. It’s right below the previous one, we thought it was scar tissue at first, but now it seems to be growing. And it seems a bit weird she has another tumor right udnerneath the previous one. I am really worried about her. We’ll visit the vet this week to see what he thinks.

And it was the Steam summer sale this week. Steam is a big game selling platform, where you basically have all your games in one place and their summer sale is a big deal with lots of games with big discounts. I got two games for a total of 3 euro’s by a game developer who’s three previous games I enjoyed, so I am looking forward to trying these out soon. One is a nature-ish puzzle game with fantasy feel graphics and the other is about making soup or something like that, it sounded fun. I also played the clicker game made for the steam summer sale every day, which was surprisingly addictive for such a simple game.

COYER-ScavHuntLogo
Yesterday was the start of Coyer! I am so happy coyer has started as I always look forward to this reading challenge and many weeks of fun! I am starting this reading challenge reading The Stars Never Rise by Rachel Vincent as my evening book and Palace Secrets as my ipad book. I printed the scavnger hunt list so I can keep track of which book counts for what. My first two books both will count for 5 points, so that’s a great start.

For the rest of my goals, as Coyer has just started I haven’t gotten much done yet. I already replied to three tweets yesterday, but haven’t commented on any reviews yet. Facebook group activities will start this monday.

Random Picture(s) of the Week

Werewolves Liquorice
This is “weerwolven drop” or translated werewolves liquorice. I thought it was fun how they market these ligourices by naming them after paranormal creatures, they witches, werewolves and orc’s liqourice. The werewolf flavour is my favourite. It’s sweet ligourice with caramel flavoured liquorice in the middle, they are quite yummy. If I ever have too much money I want to do giveaways for weird things like liqourice that are quite common in the Netherlands, but not elsewhere in the world. Although from what I understand most foreigners don’t really like the taste of liqourice.

Smarties and Snickers
Smarties and Snickers. They were eating an drinking before my boyfriend took this picture. Aren’t they adorable?

Felix wet cat food box in rat cage
The empty wet cat food box is now sitting in the rat cage. The rats seem to like it.

When Prince Alexander arrives to court her, he confides that his father is on his death bed, and he will be crowned king soon. Isabella hastily agrees to the proposal, desiring to be queen, knowing little about her soon to be husband.

Blurb:
There’s no backing down this time.

Lucy Everhart expected her opposing counsel to be a slick, soulless corporate lawyer. Who else would represent developers intent on turning Chicago’s Safe Haven women’s shelter into condos? But she never imagined it would be Dylan Hunt. Clearly, he’s no longer the idealistic young man she fell for in law school. This is Dylan 2.0. The man who let her go without a fight five years ago—along with his passion for social justice, apparently. He may have compromised what he believed in, but Lucy hasn’t. Dylan has no idea what kind of fight he’s in for. But then again, neither does she.

Chia Petit, town manager, may be a bit eccentric, but the town of Charming, Alaska is still thankful for her nonetheless.

With six ghosts – the demons of past transgressions – as her constant companions, keeping the town of Charming safe and law-abiding should be her only worries. Not so. When Hung Durand, ultra-sexy bounty hunter and shape shifter extraordinaire comes to town, all bets are off.

The sharpshooting gal is prepared for battle, the likes of which neither Hung nor Red Mountainbear, a blowhard conservative from Fairbanks, has ever experienced. Her mission is to keep the peaceful, shape shifter refuge out of the clutches of those that would just as soon destroy it as they would mine it to fatten their wallets.

Will Chia lose her town to those who with dollar signs clouding their judgment or will her undeniable attraction to Hung distract her efforts?

by Sonja Bair

You can find Freya’s Inferno on Goodreads

Blurb:
Freya Holm is smart, quick-witted, and an Alva—a paranormal species with the ability to fly. In a bid for a normal life outside of family expectations, she moved across the country. But within a few days of arriving in a small California town, she finds herself fighting over the last bag of lentils with an attractive but ill-tempered werewolf named David.

David Waterstone is desperate for normal, too. Recently banished from his pack, he finds himself struggling to stay sane. The presence of another supernatural power in his new town, especially one as inquisitive and lively as Freya, makes his struggle even harder.

When their new city gets besieged by an insane supernatural with a passion for Dante’s Inferno, Freya’s family sends in one of her old schoolmates. Alrik Isaksson has long been in love with Freya, but she can’t see beyond their hurtful history. Despite the tension, David, Alrik, and Freya must work together and use their intellect, supernatural powers, and sense of humor to survive the layers of Hell being created in their town by a maniac with a passion for literature.

  1. I’m sorry Snickers might have another tumor, Lola. It must be very stressful and frightening for you!

We have the same system in Switzerland to get rid of bigger objects that we want to throw out, but we don’t have to call anyone, they come to our neighborhood the first Thursday of every month. It’s very practical when there are things we have no use for anymore, however, it does happen that people come pick up stuff before the garbage company can come and get it…

You got some nice-looking books this week, I hope you’ll enjoy them all. Good luck with your COYER challenge, I’m really looking forward to all the fun as well.

Have a great week ahead and happy reading.

    • It’s just so sad as she just recovered from her previous tumor and now has another one :(. We’ll visit the vet this week to hear what he thinks.

Oh that’s handy they have a standard day when they come and get the bigger objects. Here we always have to call for a day, but this time another couple had also called, so I think they do try and combine it on one day in that case. Here it also happens that people come and get some of the objects placed there for the garbage company. When we were putting our stuff outside a car stoped by and a man walked around and took a few thigns someone else had placed there.

I am really excited for this Coyer challenge and hope I will do well with my goals.

    • I am 90% sure it’s a tumor, we gotten pretty good at noticing them. It’s just so sad how it happens so soon after the previous tumor. I am hoping the vet thinks she’s still fit enough for surgery.

I am happy with the books I got this week, now to make time to read them all.

  2. LOL! I had to laugh about the rain coming when you were dragging out the large pieces of trash for pick-up b/c that happened to us, too. It was beautiful and hot until we decided to clean out some old stuff we didn’t want and then it poured.

Ah, bummer about the tumor showing up so quickly after the last one. Don’t they look cute in those pictures!

Glad you got some work done for marketing and how fun that you caught the sale.

The werewolf licorice sounds fun. I like licorice, but I have to be in the mood for it.

    Have a good week!

    • It was already a bit of a rainy day and we were hoping we could put it outside in between the rain, not such luck. We were soaked afterwards.

It’s so weird how they can get those tumors so quikcly after the previous one. I am afraid this oen has been there for a while, btu we didn’t notice it due to the stitches and scra tissue aroudn the other one and now it had gotten bigger, so we noticed there was aother tumor.

I really like how they did the marketing for this licorice brand. I also have to be in the mood for it. I prefer the sweet licorice, but also eat salty ones now and then.

  3. Poor Snickers, I hope that it will turn out to be something else rather than a tumor. Sounds stressful.
That’s great that you can call the town authorities and they will remove large rubbish for you. I could do with that facility. Instead here we have to hire a skip and it’s really expensive to dispose of larger unwanted items.
Enjoy COYER, I always think that it sounds like a lot of fun.

    • Yeah it’s pretty stressful for both her and me if turns out to be another tumor. I am pretty sure it is a tumor, they always fele the same. It’s a bit hard to explain, but you can feel the bump of the tumor and can hold it between your fingers.

Here it’s only expensive if you call them more than three times a year I think. Up to three times it’s free. It sounds expensive that you have to hire someone to dispose of the larger unwanted items.

Coyer is a lot of fun, there are lots of bloggers that participate and ltos of talk about books and cheering others on.

  4. Glad you got a few games for so cheap:D Its always fun to get a good price on games, specially when you don’t get a hard copy of the disc. That werewolf licorice is so neat, naming them after fantasy creatures must really help boost their sales. When I was a kid my great aunt had bowls all around her house full of licorice, specially black kind! I always loved the black raspberry ones she had. 🙂 I’m sorry bout Snickers, but he sounds like a trooper and will make it through this! Happy Sunday hun!

    • I got another game for only one euro today, it’s really nice to be able to get games so cheap. I don’t buy a lot of games, but when i do I try to make sure it’s during one of their sales.
I am thinking those packages and naming them after fantasy creatures must help their sales indeed. It’s what caught my attention and now I usually buy this brand as I like them.

I am hoping Snickers will get through this. I am nto ready to lose her yet and she did well last time, but being seperated from Smarties while she recovers is hard on her. So we might have to find a way to get her to spend more time with Smarties if she needs to have the surgery.

  5. I’m sorry poor Snickers has another tumor, it looks like you can’t keep your guard down… Good for the extra space – and the exercize ;)I used to lurve liquorice as a kid, it was so yummy, it’s also easy to find some in France too, in every supermarket. I hope your visit to the vet will reassure yoou *hugs*

    • Thanks! I hope the vet reassures us she can have another surgery. We try to check multiple times each week for tumors, as it’s important to spot them early one. I am afraid we spotted this one a bit late, but it isn’t too big yet luckily.
Ugh my muscles really ached after putting all that stuff outside.
Oh that’s good to hear you can also buy liqourice in france. I really like it. Especially the sweet liqourice, while my boyfriend prefers the salty liqourice. They have a pretty big selection of liqourice here.

    • I hope so too, visiting the vet always makes me nervous, but I hope the vet can help Snickers.

I haven’t eaten a lot of strawberry liqourice, but I think I like those as well. The black liqourice is more common here. And 4 pond for a small bag is pretty expensive. This bag is about 2 euro’s for 300 gram.

  6. Poor Snickers. At least everyone survived Quito’s visit unscathed and in one piece! 😉

Glad you had a productive week. Hoping some of that rubs off on me this week!

    • We have a visit scheduled for this friday. And indeed everyone survived Quito’s visit.

I hope you have a productive week!

  7. Poor Snickers 🙁 I hope she feels better and it’s something you can quickly take care of.

We have a service that comes to pick up unwanted stuff if we have it, big furniture goes to another service and they fix it all up and re sell it for super cheap for people that can’t afford new furniture. I always give my stuff like that away just because I know it will go to a good home.

Those werewolf candies reminded me of an exchange student I became very good friends with a long time ago. She sent me a package of a bunch of stuff and my favorite was the Peppermint Greeting. She raved about them when she was here and promised to send them and she did and they were so good, we wrote each other for a long time but lost touch. I could swear now that I think about it she was from the Netherlands.

I hope you enjoy your new books, Lola
    Have an amazing week! oxox

    • I called the vet this morning and we’re going to visit them friday and see what they can do for Snickers. She probably will have to get another surgery.

We also have a service indeed that resells it for very cheap. My boyfriend and his dad even got a few thigns from such a store and then fixed it up themselves. Here those stores don’t fix it up for you. But my boyfriend his dad is really handy with thigns like that. In this case my sisters old bed and bureau were in really bad condition so we decided to just throw it out instead of bring it to that service.

I can’t think of any candy named Peppermint Greeting, but that also might be because the dutch name is different. It’s nice to see what candy they have in other countries. We have a few stores that sell some american or english candies, but it’s only a small selection and pretty pricey. I am especially jealous of your broad assortment of breakfast cereal.

  8. Dang. I’m sorry about Snickers. Poor baby. I hope it’s nothing too bad. They look so sweet!

We have the same thing here where you call and schedule for a larger item pick up. Getting ready to get a new couch and I’ll be calling them to come get my old one. Can’t wait to sit on something that doesn’t sink when I sit down. LOL

    • We’re pretty sure it’s another tumor and she will need to have another surgery :(. We know more friday when we visit the vet.

Sounds like your couch is pretty old already, sounds like it will be nice when you finally get your new one. It was a lot of effort to put all the stuff outside, but it’s ncie to have it gone now.

    • I couldn’t do fasting, I love food too much and get really grumpy when I am hungry. I love lasagna, but I have a hard time making it, this is the first lasagna I made that turned out okay. It needs a few more tweaks though.
I hope you’ll enjoy the negalley post!

  9. Those big trash days are called “bulk trash days” here in my community. They come every other Wednesday and we can just put stuff out and they get rid of it. I love it. I’m sorry to hear about Snickers getting another tumor. I hope that turns out okay. Otherwise you sound like you were really busy!

PS) Yeah, I don’t like black licorice at all 🙂 Lol.
    S. J. Pajonas recently posted…UtopYA 2015 Wrap-UpMy Profile

    • Oh google translate was actually right this time, bulk trash sounded so weird and literally translated to me, so I thought google translate did it wrong again. And that’s so handy they come every other wednesday in your community, then every time you have something you can just put it outside and it never heaps up in your house.

I feel so worried about Snickers and I am beating myself up over the fact that I should’ve noticed it earlier. A week or two ago I was already concerned, but it was hard to see as she was still recovering fom the other one. This one is getting bigger already, normally we notice them really early and go to the vet before they get much larger. We’re going to the vet this friday, so then we know more.

  10. Aw, I am so, so sorry to hear about Snickers’ potential tumor. I really hope that it is something that can be treated, they are both so adorable, and you must be sick with worry 🙁 I’ll be thinking of you and Snickers, and I hope that this week treats you well. I hope you enjoy your new books! And I am excited about this Netgalley post- I feel like I probably have similar feelings 😉

    • Thanks! Luckily rat tumors, usually can be treated well, but I am still worried, especially as this one is a bit bigger already and right below the previous one she had.
The netgalley post was fun to write, I hope you’ll like it!
