What happened this week?
This was a pretty normal week, enough work to keep me busy, but also some time for hobbies. I had three tours start this week, which kept me busy. I also did some more work on the website project I am working on, it’s almost finished now. I also got a few blog posts written and got some time to play a game. Saturday evening we set up our small fake christmas tree, so it feels more like christmas now in the house. I’ll share a picture next week.
A nice author contacted me on facebook as I reviewed her book that was part of the mermaid collection I bought a few months ago and she offered me a copy of the next collection the witchign hour as a thank you gift. I thought it was so nice of her to gift me a copy of the collection and I am looking forward to reading it! I don’t read a lot of witches books, so it will be nice to step outside my comfort zone a bit and give them a try 🙂
And I mailed out the recipes for the recipe exchange! Earlier this week I heard who I had to send recipes, then I took some time finding a fun recipe for them, I ended up sending each of them two recipes as I couldn’t decide. I am so excited for the reicpe exchange and I am looking forward to hear what the recipients thought of the recipes. And curious which recipes I’ll receive.
Random Picture(s) of the Week
I think I am almost running out of ideas of things we eat on our rbead to share. But here’s one more and maybe in the future I will think of a few more things. These are “Schuddebuikjes”, literally translated that would be something like Shakey Bellies, yeah weird I know. They are very small round things for on your brea,d they have them in two flavours Speculaas and Chocolate&Vanille. This si the Speculaas flavour, Speculaas is something we eat regulary here, but is especially popular around the holiday Sinterklaas. These Schuddebuikjes you can buy the whole year round. The texture is a bit like cookies. So it’s an easier alternative to putting real Speculaas cookies on your bread. I like sweets on my bread, so I am quite fond of these.
And these are Stroopwafels. This is the storebought version, but we also have stalls in cities that sell them freshly made and they are even better that way, yum! Stroopwafels are thin wafel like cookies with syrup between them. They are pretty good.

Do you have anything called Peppermint Greetings there? I had an exchange student in my elementary school that I became good friends with and she might have been in your area. She had sent me a care package once with all types of goodies (some I can’t remember) but I remember the Peppermint Greetings.
I love that you share what you eat on your bread, it looks so strange to me but some of it looks very yummy!

Maybe it’s called differently here, but the term Peppermint Greetings doesn’t sound familiar. That’s pretty cool you had a dutch exchange student. If I ever get rich I would love to do a giveaway on my blog with weird dutch sweets and candies.
I am surprised you in the US don’t have most of these, but it’s fun to hear about people who has never seen this before.

I cannot get over all the things you put on bread. Do you have meats you put on bread for lunch and such? Everything seems sweet..like our breakfast jellies.
Yes we also have a big selection of meat we put on our bread, and cheese and egg and such, but I figured that you all have that in the US as well. So that’s less interesting to share. And as I am a vegetarian I don’t eat much meat on bread myself. I do buy ham and bacon for my boyfriend sometimes for on his bread, but he often eats sweets or hummus on his bread too.
It’s funny how just having a tree up makes everything more festive. Love this time of year. And I’m enjoying your food posts too, it’s neat to see what you guys eat over there. Stroopwafels look good, cookies with syrup? I think I’d like those. 🙂
It’s amazing what just having a tree in the house can do, the whole house feels more festive now. Stroopwafels are really good, especially when you can buy them warm and fresh. They also sell crumbles from the cookies at some stores, which is good too!

I don’t read many witch stories, not sure why, but a witch book has to sound really good for me to pick it up. So it will be fun to step out of my comfort zone a bit. The mermaid collection was by some of the same authors, so I have high hopes for the witch collection.

Oh that’s awesome you can buy them in Scotland too! I only buy them occasionaly as well or sometimes when I am out and find a stall that makes them.
I think “speculaas” is what we call in French “speculoos”, they’re quite popular cakes here, everybody loves them !
We also have Speculoos here weirdly, here it’s usually a paste in a jar a bit like nutella paste, for on our bread, but then it tastes a bit like speculaas.
