sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was an okay week, some good things and some less good things. The good thing that happened is that I got some new tour requests this week, one book blitz and two new cover reveals. I’ve been working on one of the cover reveals sign-up posts and media kit, which is live already. And the blitz and other cover reveal will be live next week.

The bad thing that happened this week was that I catched a cold and had a sore throat for days and didn’t feel too well. I did drink a lot of camille tea and ate liquorice and after a few days I got better. I am feeling almost 100% normal again now.

And we bought a new bed base for our bed. The base was getting pretty old and didn’t sleep too well anymore. When I talked with my mom about it, she gave us some extra money so we could afford to buy a new bed base. The shop we bought the bed base has a nice discount going on so that helped too. They delivered the new bed base on thursday and at first the man who delivered it said they didn’t assemble it, but I mentioned the on the website it said they would and eventually they did asemble it. Went a lot faster than if we had to do it ourselves.

And I got too many new books again this week. Spend some time doing marketing assistant work and a bit blogging. I did finish some books and write my reviews for them, but they don’t count for Blog Ahead. Oh and I managed to ruin my cupcakes that I was tyring to bake, it was a package I got from my mom for my birthday and decided to make them. I added some apples baked them and they tastes very gross. The frosting also failed. I did manage to finally make japanese curry now that I had package for the curry paste and it was yummy!

Blog Ahead 2015
I started this challenge with 33 posts scheduled. I hope to end with at least 40. This was a bit of a slow week, I only got one extra post written that counts. I got two more reviews written for October this week and am almost done with October reviews now. I got one Lola’s Kitchen post done for December and have planned two mroe recipe post to write next week after I make the dish another time and take pictures.

Total amount of posts written for this challenge: 7

Posts I wrote this week for this challenge:
– Lola’s Kitchen: Japanese Curry Recipe – 11 December 2015
– Lola’s Ramblings: How to get more reviews for your book – 21 january 2016

Random Picture(s) of the Week

Poffertjes
I forgot to make pictures this week, so I only have one picture for you this week. These are “Poffertjes”, they are sort of like small pancakes, but they do taste slightly different. Here’s the poffertjes wikipedia page. You can serve them with sugar or syrup. They are quite good and we sometimes buy them if we’re craving them. These you only have to pop in the microwave for a few seconds till they are warm.

Japanese Curry close up
And the japanese curry we had for dinner on saturday and leftovers today. It was really good! I wrote a recipe post for it and schedule it for december.

What did I cook for dinner this week?

  1. How to get more reviews for your book – that sounds like such a good topic, I’m sure lots of authors will hit that one up as it just sounds so useful.
Poffertjes look tasty and your curry looks delicious! You’re making me hungry!
I think The Deep End sounds like a fun read (for a murder!) and I’ve seen it on a few blogs lately. Sorry to hear you weren’t feeling well, stupid colds, everyone seems to get them this time of year. My husband was smoothered with one too, thankfully I seem to have escaped (for now!).

    • Thanks I am glad to hear to hear you think it will be a good topic. I was a bit nervous about it as it’s different from the posts I normall do. I am planning to write a few posts for authors and see how it goes. I often give authors who contact me free advice on topics like how to get more reviews, so I thought it would be helpfull to write it all down and share my knowlegde with everyone instead of just with the ones that ask.

The Poffertjes are almost all gone, they are pretty good and I was so happy the curry turned out well this time. I saw Deep End around too and when it was on sale for only 0.99$ I had to grab a copy, I like the cover style and it sounds like a good one. I am glad my cold was a short one, only a few days of feeling bad. The tea and ligourice really helped.

    • Luckily it was a short sickness, my throat hurt a lot for a few days, but the tea and liquorice helped and it went away fast. A Heartwarming christmas looked great for the holidays and I like how the stories are connected.

  2. I hope you’re feeling better, Lola. Especially the sore throat is so annoying – it makes it very difficult to sleep and get enough rest to get well.
You got some very nice-looking books this week, and I hope you’ll enjoy them.
Good luck on continuing to schedule more posts for the Blog Ahead Challenge 🙂
Have a fantastic week ahead and happy reading.

    • I am feeling better now, luckily the sore throat only lasted a few days. I am glad with the progress I made so far for Blog Ahead and I hope I can do a bit more posts again next week to stay on my schedule, so I can reach those 15 posts at the end of the month.

    • Luckily the sickness only lasted a few days, the camille tea and liqourcie worked great. I kinda cheated with this curry and just bought a package for the curry paste, but it’s delicious! Last time I tried to make this curry paste from scratch I messed up the whole dish.

Our bed definitely sleeps better now we have a new bed base. It gives much more support to my back.

  3. Sorry you got sick this week! Being sick is the worst! But it makes you appreciate the times when you’re perfectly well. I still need to read Kelley Armstrong. She has so many books out that look interesting to me, but I’ve just never read anything by her.

    • Kelley Armstrong is one of my favourite authors, although I am a bit behind with her books and haven’t read some of her more recent releases. I would recommend her books, both her Young Adult and Adult books are awesome.
And indeed being sick makes you apreciate being well more again. Luckily it didn’t turn into a full blown sickness and the sore throat went away after a few days.

    • The japanese curry was really good yesterday, so I am happy we still have enough for todays dinner as well. Luckily I wans’t sick for that many days. I am not sure if it’s freezing here yet during the nights, but it did drop in temperatures this week. I started wearing my warm sweathers this week.

  4. Ah yuck, a cold! I already had an infection, too. No fun.

That’s great about getting the work done and getting the new bed frame.
Even if not all your stuff counts for Blog Ahead, it looks like you got some significant work done on the blog.

Sorry the cupcakes didn’t turn out. I planned to make some spice cakes and then my mother in law dropped by some of her icing covered banana bread. It’s really good and will keep us in sweet stuff for days. 😉

Looks like you got some good cozy mysteries in your haul.
    Have a good week!

    • Luckily it didn’t last long, being sick is always annoying. I am hoping that next week I only will be working on november and later posts as I am almost done with all october post.

You would think making cupcakes with a package would be easier, but they were a total fail. That’s nice your mom brought you some icing covered banana bread, it sounds delicious. I’ll be making another batch of pumpkin cookies tomorrow, so we’ll have some sweets.

I am glad with the new cozy mysteries, I am really in the mood for them lately and I am looking forward to reading these.

    • Yes I am really getting into the cozy mystery genre and I am trying to get my hands on a lot of them so I can get a feel for which kind of books and authors I like.

That’s too bad you got a cold even though you got your flu shot :(. I hope you’ll feel better soon!

    • I love Kelley Armstrong her books, she’s one of my favourite authors! I haven’t read the previous otherworld anthology yet, so I am hoping to read that and this one soon. It’s so awesome we still get new stories in her Otherwolrd series even though the main series has ended.
The perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum sounds like a fun one, I haven’t yet read a paranormal cozy mystery so far!

    • Running a tour company is a lot of fun and a lot of work. I am really glad I made the decision to start my company. Getting started and building up your client base can be really tough though as there are lots of other tour companies out there.

I am happy my sore throat only lasted for a few days.

    • I’ve been in a cozy mystery mood lately, so I am requesting a lot of them through netgalley and grabbing some cheap ones from netgalley. I am hoping to get at least 15 posts that count written and with still 2 weeks left I think I might reach my goal.

    • Yes I am feeling better again :), it only lasted for a few days luckily. Yeah it was so weird they refused to assemble it, while on the website it clearly said that assmembly was included. It really helps to have a good bed base, this one gives my back much more support, I didn’t even realize the old one was so bad till we got the new one.

I am happy with my progress for Blog Ahead so far and am aiming to reach the 15 posts at least.

  5. The Poffertjes look good. I love pancakes so I’d probably like them. You got some good books. I was supposed to review Murder at Redwood Cove but the publicist never sent it and now it’s been archived at NG. Ah well, maybe my library will have it.

Lost of people with colds lately, I’m glad you’re feeling better. 🙂

    • The poffertjes taste almost the same as pancakes, they are just smaller and a bit fluffier. I requested Murder at redwood Cove this week and downloaded it just in time before it got archived. They rejected me first, but then I still got accepted the next day. I heard from another blogger that it was a good one, so I wanted to give it a try. I hope your library has it!
Lola recently posted…Sunday Post #148My Profile

    • The Poffertjes are easy to eat in one bite and really good. I saw The Deep End on your blog and some others, so when I saw it was on sale I had to grab it. It sounds like a good series!

    • Luckily my sore throat disapeared after a few days. I hate having a sore throat, but it seems the salt water, camille tea and liquorice helped.

The Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum looks like a great one, I couldn’t resist requesting it when I saw it on netgalley. Although the title sure if a mouthfull.
Lola recently posted…Sunday Post #148My Profile

  6. I hope you feel better soon! My oldest daughter is sick and now it’s getting spread to everyone. I can’t wait to see your Japanese curry recipe! That looks so good! You got a lot of good books and those cozy mysteries sound like a fun read. I hope you feel better and have a good week!
    Kathy recently posted…Weekly Wrap-Up #74My Profile

    • I already feel better, so I am glad I didn’t get the fullblown sickness. Japanese curry is very good, I did cheated a bit and uses a package for the curry paste, but it’s simply the best and easiest way to make it.
I have been in a cozy mystery mood lately, so I grab as many of them as I can get my hands on.

    • I am glad it didn’t linger, but it’s good to have some meds at home in case the flu hits. I am glad I could chase this flu away with some camille tea and liqourice.

  7. Glad you’re feeling better, I think I’m coming down with a cold too … boo! I love Kelly Armstrong’s books and I make a yummy Japanese Curry. When we visited Japan, a Japanese friend recommended this packet curry block, now I use it because it’s so good and so easy 🙂
Have a great week and happy reading!

    • Those packet curry blocks are so handy, they taste great and are easier than making it yourself. I tried making it myself once, but it failed, not worth the struggle to try it again. I love kelley armstrong her writing style, just got an e-mail today that my pre-order of The Masked Truth is coming my way! I really should catch-up on her latest books soon as I haven’t read her more recent books.

  8. I hope you’re feeling completely better now, colds are no fun to have 🙁

A Heartwarming Christmas looks fun and absolutely perfect for the holidays, I love that they’re in connected groups. I also got The Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum this week, fingers crossed it’s a good one. I hope you enjoy your new reads!

I like anthologies with stories that are connected, those are the best! And it seemed like a fun one to get in the spirit for the holidays. I also hope The Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum is a good one!

  9. I hope the new bed helps you sleep a little better and I’m glad they ended up putting it together for you.

Sorry to hear you were sick. I’ve been unwell also and it really disrupts your life!

Hope this next week is better.

    • The new bed base sleep a lot better than the previous one and I am so glad they put it together as it would’ve taken us much longer. I didn’t get too sick, but those few days sure were annoying. I am glad to feel healthy again!

    • It didn’t stick around too long luckily. I was afraid it would get worse, but luckily after a few days it got less and I am feeling normal again now!

  10. Amy

Aww Lola! It sounds like a hectic week 🙁 I’m glad you’re recovering from your cold now, to be honest, I never would have thought of liquorice! Does it work? I’m thinking Dolly Mixtures now 😛 he he. Maybe a nice treat when you’re feeling ill in winter.
I’m glad you got the bed sorted. I notice they’re always trying to get out of stuff… when I had my sofa delivered a few years back, they said they didn’t carry them up stairs or bring them in the house… when I booked delivery it said they did! They literally left it on my doorstep! Eugh!! So yes, I’m very happy for you on that front, genuinely.
I hope this week goes a lot better than the last one.
    Take care,

    • Here in the netherlands we eat a lot of ligourice and it’s often the first thing people recommend when you have a sore throat. It helps relieve the pain.

Yeah it felt like they were trying to get out of the task. I wouldn’t have minded doing it myself, but it was mentioned on the website they would assemble it, so that’s what I expect. We lvie in an apprtment building and when ordering the bed base, the site had a neat form to say on which floor we lived and whether there was an elevator. That’s nasty they just left your sofa on the doorstep, sheesh carrying it to the living room is the leats they can do.

  11. I hope you’re back to 100%, Lola. This time of year is awful for colds. It looks like you had a good week otherwise. Congrats on the new tour requests, new bed base, AND all those posts you have done for Blog Ahead! I’m very impressed! I was out of town for 5 days so I got behind. Eh, seems to be the story of my life right now. *haha* I hope this week is going well for you. 😀

It always makes me so motivated to get posts done. I am now at 15 posts written and thus reached my goal already, so now I am hoping to reach the 20. I hope you had fun being out of town, it’s worth it be a bit behind if you get to do something fun instead.
