sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

What a week, another busy week filled with worrying about Pita. I also had a new tour start this week, a cover reveal took place and a new book blitz and blog tour open for sign-up over at Lola’s Blog Tours. All in all it was a busy, but fun week.

As we kept worrying about Pita I e-mailed the vet on sunday if we could give Pita painkillers as well as she seemed in a lot of pain from her ear infection. On monday they called me to give her painkillers and that she should improve in a few days. Then monday evening we got another scare I was reading on the bed with Pita, when suddenly she became moving around, so I picked her up. She had a weird buldge on her stomach for a few days and when I was looking at it, it burst and pus came out. I basically freaked out, picked her up, pushed tissues against the spot and carried her over to the living room. And the smell that came from the pus was horrible and I felt queasy and poor Pita seemed distressed. My boyfriend helped and we put her into the sink with some water. She seemed to calm down a bit and as I read about this online a few times we thought she probably had an abcess, a wound that got infected. The pus had landed on the bed, so we had to clean our bed before we could go to sleep.

The next morning I called the vet and they advised us to wash Pita twice a day with biotex, to prevent it getting infected again. And to keep her seperated from the other girls, so they couldn’t harm Pita and we can keep a closer eye on her. Then on Thursday the first abces burst again, I geuss we hadn’t cleaned it well enough the first time and it had gotten infected again. Pita seemed really bad after we cleaned out the abces again and we had to push on the abces a bit to get everything out, the poor girl seemed in a lot of pain! We also noticed another abces next to her tail. Then on thursday the second abces burst and we had to repeat the whole process again. Again we had to push a bit on the abces to get al the pus out. After that Pita seems to try and ignore us as she really wasn’t happy with what we did. She also stopped drinking from our fingers, so we have to resort to feeding her porridge for fluids and food. She does eat, but prefers the candies to normal rat food. And she has figured out a way to not eat her medicine, where she sort of keeps it in her mouth and just let it drip out afterwards. She does eat her painkillers, I think she knows those help with the pain. We keep giving her medicine and bathing her twice a day for a few more days, but both her abces wounds look really good, so that’s good news. We’re stopping with her antibiotica, but give her pain medication for a few mroe days. She has one more buldge and we think that might be another abces.

And something fun happened this week! I wrote a guest post for Dreamland: A Teenage Fantasy. I wrote about ten things I like to see in a blog or concerning blogger behavior and Natasha asked me about the best kind of relationship and some quickfire questions.

I also finished up another guest post for a bloggers about books I love that aren’t popular enough, but that one won’t be posted for a few weeks. I’ll share that in my sunday post once it’s live. I didn’t got a lot of reading done, but I did finish one novella and am still reading two e-books at the same time, whcih are both really good.

My boyfriend surprised me thursday when he got home from school with a red rose and chocolates! It was so sweet and the rose smells lovely. All the chocolates are gone already ;). I made brownies for him in return.

WinterCoyer
I read a novella this week which counts as my eight coyer book, whcih means I reached one of my goals of readign 8 books! Yay! I am currently reading both my ninth and tenth book at the same time. Yes you heard that right I am reading two books at the same time and guess what it works. I always have been a one book at a time person, but the way I am reading two books now works for me. One book I am reading on my ipad during breakfast, I don’t like reading on my ipad in the evenings as I have to strain my eyes more, so in the evening before going to sleep I read on my Kobo. I am never tempted to read the other book as I can’t read easily on my Kobo during breakfast and I can’t read on my ipad in the evening. Both are great books! I have a few netgalley books which I can’t read on my Kobo, so I am hopign to read them on my ipad during breakfast after I finished my current ipad read.

What did I cook for dinner this week?

  • Sunday: Chicken curry with apples, pineapple and more
  • Extra: Oatmeal sandwhich cookies – recipe coming in June
  • Monday: Cauliflower Tofu curry – new recipe
  • Tuesday: Risotto with egg, paprika and curry spices ketchup

Random Picture(s) of the Week

Winter sunset
Okay so actually this picture wasn’t taken in last week, but in the week before that, but last week I had to share Pita pictures. So this week I wanted to post this one. This was taken when the sun set while it has snowed. It looked even better in real life, but I guess a picture can’t really do it justice. It’s one of the things I like about where we live, we can see beautifull sunsets regulary.

Book Haul:

the locksmithThe Locksmith (A Mindjack Story)
by Susan Kaye Quinn

Format: e-copy
Source: for review
You can find The Locksmith on Goodreads

Blurb:
SHORT NOVELLA (STANDALONE) in the Mindjack universe

When everyone reads minds, a secret is a dangerous thing to keep.

In a world filled with mindreaders, Zeph is a mindjacker who wants to stay hidden—even if it means the cute mindreader in his Latin class is forever out of his reach. He locks and unlocks minds for a ruthless mindjacker Clan in exchange for protection and the chance to have a normal life with his parents and little sister. But when a girl he doesn’t know reveals the existence of mindjackers to the world, Zeph is forced to make a choice: unlock—and ultimately destroy—the mind of a young jacker changeling… or turn his back on everyone he loves.

The Locksmith is a short novella (standalone) in the Mindjack universe. It can be read independently of the other Mindjack stories, in any order. It is 11,000 words (or 44 pages) long.

Already read this and it was so fun to be back in the Mindjack world for a little while with this novella! And she announced more books will be written about this character, so excited!

The best laid plansThe Best Laid Plans (Chicago Sisters #2)
by Amy Vastine

Format: e-copy
Source: for review through Netgalley
You can find The Best Laid Plans on Goodreads

Blurb:
She planned on falling in love. Just not with him!

Emma Everhart’s life is going according to plan. Finish nursing school with flying colours… Check. Get a great job in the ER… Check. Marry a handsome doctor and have two babies, three years apart… Not quite yet. But with a dreamy new doctor joining the hospital staff, she’s so close she can almost taste the wedding cake. Now is not the time to let the tall, dark and flirtatious paramedic Charlie Fletcher distract her! He may be the best date and best kiss she’s ever had, but he’s definitely not part of her plan. No matter how he makes her feel…

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and Amy her other novel, so I was really excited when I got approved for this one on netgalley! Sadly it’s pdf or kindle only, so this probably will be my next ipad book for during breakfast.

the bone seasonThe Bone Season (The Bone Season #1)
by Samantha Shannon

Format: paperback
Source: bought it myself
You can find The Bone Season on Goodreads

Blurb:
The year is 2059. Nineteen-year-old Paige Mahoney is working in the criminal underworld of Scion London, based at Seven Dials, employed by a man named Jaxon Hall. Her job: to scout for information by breaking into people’s minds. For Paige is a dreamwalker, a clairvoyant and, in the world of Scion, she commits treason simply by breathing.

It is raining the day her life changes for ever. Attacked, drugged and kidnapped, Paige is transported to Oxford – a city kept secret for two hundred years, controlled by a powerful, otherworldly race. Paige is assigned to Warden, a Rephaite with mysterious motives. He is her master. Her trainer. Her natural enemy. But if Paige wants to regain her freedom she must allow herself to be nurtured in this prison where she is meant to die.

The Bone Season introduces a compelling heroine and also introduces an extraordinary young writer, with huge ambition and a teeming imagination. Samantha Shannon has created a bold new reality in this riveting debut.

I got this one for about 5.50 euro’s, which is really cheap for a paperback and even cheaper than the e-copy. When I saw it for that price at the Bookdepository I just had to grab a copy. I heard some mixed things, but I hear the world building is impressive so I hope I will enjoy it.

    • We think the last buldge is another abces, so that will hopefully burst in a few mroe days and I hope afetr that she can finally star recovering. She has such bad luck with all these health issues right after each other.

It was a busy week, but enough room for fun as well.

  1. Poor Pita, and poor you, Lola! I can’t even imagine the smell of that burst abcess 🙁 I hope she will do better this week, and that she’ll be able to get some rest and get stronger.

I would have eaten all the chocolate already if I had gotten some, too 🙂

Nice haul you got this week, I hope you’ll enjoy all your new books. And congrats on your progress with COYER! You are totally rocking it 🙂

Have a fantastic week and happy reading.

    • Ugh the stench was really bad of that first one. Luckily we could let the second one burst with water close by, that really helped.

I ate all the chocolates in one day, they where that good 😉

I am really happy with my progress for Coyer and how I managed to reach all of my goals. I hope I can get a few more books read before the end of Coyer.

  2. Ok I totally almost gagged with the Pita story. Oh boy! Weak stomach.

I’m committing to FINALLY reading Open Minds next month. March is Kimba’s Take Control of Your TBR Pile Challenge, and I’m putting it down as one of my reads. I’ve only had it for almost 3 years! HA! 🙂

    Enjoy your new books!

    • My apologies, it was really gag worthy in real life as well. I have a weak stomach when it concerns things like that, I felt queasy for the whole evening afterwards. It was just so gross.

Yay I can’t wait for you to read Open Minds :). I hope you enjoy it, I really love Susan Kaye Quinn her writing style and I am really excited for her new upcomign Singularity series.

And isn’t it weird how you have some books for such along time before you finally get around to reading it? Although the good thing is, that if you like it you can read the rest of the series directly after it. No wait for sequels!

  3. Poor Pita, and Poor You! That is so stressful then the little furbabies are sick 🙁 I hope she gets better soon. I feel so bad for her!

Your boyfriend is super sweet, What girl doesn’t love Roses and Chocolates 🙂 Now I want brownies lol

of course your recipes have me drooling and all those yummy desserts I can’t wait for the recipes!

Have a great week, Lola! I really do hope Pita is feeling better!

    • Yeah it’s been a stressful week, we’re thinking she has one mroe abces, but after that, she hopefully on her way to recovery.

Yes it was so sweet to se ehim wlaking towards our door with a rose in his hand, it certainly brightened my day. And I lvoe chocolates! They were so good!
I really should remember to take pictures next time I make brownies, so I can share the recipe here.

    • She’s doing a bit better, but we’re afraid that other budlge is another abces that needs to burst soon. It’s hard to see her in pain, but at leats the pain medication seems to take the edge of it.

  4. Oh, poor Pita. I hope she can get better soon. We have had the hardest times giving our cats medicines. One was on liquid medicine for awhile. There was an orange or pink one and she would foam at the mouth and spit it out. She’s mostly white so she had orange/pink fur around her mouth and running down the front of her body for a few weeks. The other one is on a daily pill. She spits it out so we have taken to grinding it up and rubbing it on her gums and making her lick it off. I wasn’t sure at first if it was okay to do that, but her blood pressure has gone down so it’s working.
Jenna @ Rather Be Reading YA recently posted…Weekly Rewind: February 8-14My Profile

    • Yeah it can be a real trouble to give pets medicines especially when they don’t want to. We finally developed a method for Pita where my boyfriend holds her while I put the medicine in her mouth. We used to hide it with food but that could take a long time or she refused to eat it, so now we force it inside, it isn’t fun, but it works. We stopped with the medicine she didn’t like, luckily she doesn’t mind the painkillers.

    • I agree forcing medicine on them is horrible, we decided to stop with one of the medicines for now and only continue the pain medication as it seems her ear infection is gone and she only deals with the abcesses now. Luckily she doesn’t midn the pain killers.

    • We’re happy she’s still fighting and indeed she’s a smart girl trying to avoid her medicine. We stopped with the medicine she didn’t like for now as her ear infection seems to have gone away. So now it’s only the pain killers for her abces and she does eat that one without any trouble.

    • I felt so bad when we had to push on the abces to get everything out, she was going crazy with pain and it’s so hard to continue, but we knew it was necessary. We think the other buldge is another abces, so we’re waitign til that bursts and then we have to do it all again, but hopefully after that she will recover.

I think the first Mindjack book Open Minds is free everywhere, so I would say grab your copy and give it a try ;). I love the series and Susan writes such fun and original series.

  5. Oh poor Pita! Sounds like you are all having a rough time of it right now. Hopefully she’ll be feeling better soon. What a lovely sunset picture! You have been definitely eating well. I adore carrot cake but don’t make it because I’m the only one here who eats it. I do love getting a piece when I see it though. Carrot Cake Cookies sounds like a great compromise though because then I could make them and give some away! Enjoy your new books and have a great week!

    • It’s been a rough week for Pita. Yesterday evenign ehr third abces burst, so hopefully now she’ll start recovering.

I like carrot cake, but never tried making it myself. It’s sad when you are the only oen who likes something. These cookies where a good compromise indeed. And they stay good for a few days, so you have more time to eat them.

  6. Ah, I hope Pita turns out okay. I hate it when my pets are sick, it always makes me feel bad. Can’t blame the little thing for not wanting to be near you after you poked and squeezed on her..lol.

Hope you enjoy your new reads! 🙂

    Stormi

    • Yeah I can totally understand why she didn’t want to be near me after we squeezed the pus out of her abces, but it was necessary and if you don’t get everythgin out it just get’s infected again and that’s even worse. Unfortunately you can’t explain that to a rat. Her third abces burst yesterday evenign, so hopefully she’ll be back to normal soon.

  7. Oh my! 🙁 I am really sorry to hear that Pita was in pain! I can only imagine what it feels like going through that, when my dog was wounded during a fight with another dog, he had a really huge swell around his neck and I almost cried looking at his state. :/ I hope Pita gets well soon!

Thank you for the mention Lola, it was fun having you there too! 😀

And sounds like you had a lovely Valentine 😛 Stay sweet with your boyfriend!
