sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

What a week. While I was feeling a lot better since Monday, the whole week I still didn’t fully feel healthy. I think I am still struggling with something as I still have a had a bad cough and my nose isn’t happy either, especially in the mornings and evenings. I also had a few nights of not so good sleep. Our clocks went back an hour last weekend and it always messes with my sleep rhythm. I woke up earlier feeling like it was time to wake up, even though I was still tired. There also was some construction noise a few days this week that disrupted my sleeping as well. Or I started coughing and couldn’t fall asleep. I haven’t had many good nights of sleep this week, so I really hope I can get some better sleep this week.

And then on Tuesday my whole day planning got turned around when our washing machine broke down. I tried finding a solution on internet first, but in the end we decided to just buy a new one as the old one was ancient (like 15 years old or so), so it’s not really worth getting it repaired. We ordered a new one the same evening and it got delivered the next day, so that was nice. The money it costs was less nice. And the delivery guys arrived 3 hours later than their latest time indication, so that was less handy. And then we ran into a problem with the new washing machine, although that turned out to have a simple solution as the aquastop had shut down and needed to be reset, but it still took some time figuring out what was wrong with the help from my mom and her husband. The new ashing machine is awesome, it’s much quieter, dries the wash better and has all these fancy options.

I again struggled to get all my work done this week, but I managed to get the most important things done. Two new sign-up posts went live this week, one for a review opportunity and one for a blog tour. As this was the end of the month I had to wrap up all my assistant work for this month, which I managed. I didn’t get as much hours work done as I had hoped, with everything going on, but I am happy with what I got done.

As it’s now November, let’s have a look at how much I read in October. I managed to read 14 books this month. 3 non-fiction books and the rest was fiction. My most read genre this month was science fiction. My favorite read was High Flyght, which got a 5 star rating. Two of the books I read were audiobooks. And I read about a big variety of settings this month, including Space, USA, Canada, France, New Zealand and the UK.

What did I read this week?

Mistletoe MishapResistanceRecipe for Chaos

Mistletoe Mishap was a fun Christmas themed romance, but I had some trouble warming up to the main character and there were a bunch of events and behavior from the main character that didn’t work for me. Resistance was a nice novella set in the Singularity world and gave some background information about Kamali. I really enjoyed Recipe for Chaos, although it took me a bit to warm up to Max, I liked their romance.

Food Corner

Let’s look at pasta this week. We like pasta and often eat pasta at least once a week. Below I listed some of the pasta recipes I shared on my blog. Most of these we eat regularly.

Book Haul:

RescuedThe Curse of the Black CatStreet Smart

Rescued was discounted to 99 cents and I heard some good things about the author, this book sounded good, so I decided to buy a copy. I read a great review for The Curse of the Black Cat from another author whose books I enjoy and the premise is great, so I bought that one too. Street Smart I bought on release day, it’s the next book in the Imprints series, which I really enjoyed so far.

What’s your favorite type of pasta dish?

  1. Sorry to hear about all the bad stuff this week, but glad you got the washer/dryer squared away and got through your important work.
Nice stack of books you made it through reading and that one was a five star.
I liked the one book I read by Felice Stevens so hope you end up liking this one.

My favorite pasta dish is lasagna or the way my mom makes her spaghetti.

    Have a great week, Lola!

    • It’s just the washer, but the centrifuge function seems a lot more effective than our previous one, which is nice.

It sure was a good reading month and I am always happy when I have one of those 5 star reads 🙂

Good to know you enjoyed the Felice Stevens book you read, I hope I’ll enjoy this one.

I also like lasagna, but rarely take the time to make it. I think I even have a recipe on the blog, bu forgot to list it here. And I do have a lasagna soup recipe, which is handy if I want something lasagna like, but don’t want to make a real lasagna.

  2. Urg… I hate it when things go wrong – though at least it sounds as if you got your money’s worth from your old washing machine and I hope the new one now will give no more trouble, given the teething problems are sorted out. Glad you enjoyed High Flyght so much – I loved the first book in the series and am looking forward to catching up with the others:). Have a better week, Lola.

    • The old washing machine definitely was worth the money and I don’t even know how much it costs back then as my mom still bought it and we got to keep it when we moved. I hope the new one will continue to work well, although strangely I kinda miss the old one as I was more used to that one.

I think the series only gets better, both book 2 and book 3 got a 5 star rating. I enjoyed reading your review for First Flyght and am looking forward to hear what you think of the later books.

  3. I wouldn’t handle the washing machine breaking down well. We generate too much laundry for me to cope! I hope the new one is a good one and that you manage to shake off the lingering illness! The flu does like to take it out of you for a while after the worst passes. 🙁

    • I am glad it got replaced this soon as the laundry really started heaping up with a few days of no washer. This flu really lasted long even when the worst was over.

    • I can’t believe how long this sickness hangs on. I am finally feeling better, although the cough still lasted for a while and I still have a sore throat at times. I am glad my washer lasted this long, and it was good to replace it, but it was a bit of a hassle dealing with it.
