sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

Update: I will be a bit out of today, this morning our rat Smarties was much worse than yesterday evening and she was gasping for breath so we picked her up and brought her to the weekend vet. She stayed there in the oxygen room for 6 hurs and we just picked her up this evening, she’s still havign trouble breathing, but doign much better than this morning. We try to feed her a bit and give her something to drink. We have medicine which should help her.

This was a bit of a quiet week and while I love those I also hate them. I like staying busy, being busy means less time to think or overthink things. And with slow week often the doubt creeps back in, wondering if I am doign the right thing and such. So I tried to stay busy and just add a few more tasks to my schedule. I did a lot of blog commenting done earlier in the week and wrote 3 Lola’s Ramblings posts. I also took some time for myself, coloured a bit (but didn’t finish the page so no picture yet) and got some reading done. My boyfriend and I also watched a few more episodes of Stars Wars Clone Wars and we’re now around season 3. We’re really enjoyed the series.

Even though Snickers her wound is almost fully recovered we’re still a bit worried about her. She lost some weight during her recovery and now we’re trying to feed her some more yummies in hopes he will gain some more weight. And she has some weakness in her hind legs, she can still climbs, but doesn’t has as much power in them as she used to. It’s probably due to old age, but we’re keeping a close eye on her. And sometimes while washing herself she rolls over, which is very sad to see. beside those she does acts normal, so that’s good, she just needs to gain a bit more weight.

Friday my boyfriend and I visited a city close by (Leyden) for some shopping and to celebrate out 7 year anniversary. We had some yummy lunch at your favourite restaurant in leyden; The Jacketz. Then we did some shopping. We got some ice cream at a great ice cream store, I got yoghurt, passion fruit and newyork cheesecake flavours. My boyfriend got four nuts, chocolate and banana ice cream. We bought a present for my boyfriend his mom, who celebrates her birthday next month. And had dinner at an Indian restaurant in The Hague. The dinner was okay. We were the only customers at the restaurant and the waiter seemed pretty new to his job, which was a bit awkward. The food was okay, but not as good as the previous Indian restaurant we ate at. We did try something called Mango Lassi, which was really good. It’s a yoghurt mango drink and that was the best part of dinner. The restaurant was pretty mediocre, even the naan wasn’t as good as I hoped, but at least we had a fun day. Oh and we stopped by the Lush store after dinner and bought two new massage bars, we love their products!

And I bought a new shower gel for myself when grocery shopping. My bofyriend and I are a big fan of Treacle Moon their shower gels. I think it’s an UK brand as their packages are all english. Have you tried this brand? They have some great smells and the whole bathroom smells like them when you shower and the smell stays on your skin for a while. We tried the Ginger, Cinnamon and Warm Apple Pie smells so far. The Warm Apple Pie one is my favourite.

And then friday evening when I was reading on the bed with the rats I noticed Smarties made sound while breathing and it only got worse, her flanks are heaving sometimes and she seems distressed. She hardly wnats to eat or drink and just sits still trying to breathe the whole day. It’s so hard to see her like this as she’s always such a happy and enthousiastic rat and busy runing around and she’s so down now. We’ll have to wait till monday before we can call the vet as we dont’t want to risk going to a weekend vet where we have to pay much more and who might not know rats as well as our normal vet. We’re giving her lots of attention and yummies, which seems to help a bit, but she doesn’t want to eat or drink a lot. So I am still worried a lot.

    • Snickers seem to do good, her legs are doing a bit better sometimes. Smarties got worse today and we just got back from the weekend bet with her, it’s going to be a hard few days for her. I hope her medicine kicks in soon.

Yay glad to hear you also love the Treacle Moon brand. We also have the cinnamon one, it smells like candy and cinnamon, yum! Their douche gels smell so delicious and I am tempted to try them out one by one. We currently have 3 different bottles open, so I might have to wait a while before I buy a new one.

    • She just needs a bit more yummies and gain some wight and then she’ll be fine I think. Although weakness in hind legs is a common sympton of older rats, so she might keep that.

  1. YAY! Happy 7 years! Those Jackets look interesting. I hope you had a fabulous day together! Your boyfriend is a very nice person (PS tell him to check his email)

I know exactly how you feel, I always need to keep busy other wise I get hit with the lazies and think way to much. I think that is why I was in a slump for to long, I thought if I tried to not make it like work I would get out of the slump but it just got worse and now I miss being so busy with it like I was before. So hopefully after my vacation I can come back re-freshed and ready to get back to blogging like I use to before the lazies hit. 🙂

I have my fingers crossed for Snickers, I hope she feels better and eat some more. It’s frustrating when they act normal but something is off.

OH NO Smarties! I hope she feels better. You have me all worried now about the both of them <3 oxox

Thank you so much for sharing the ad 🙂

I love anything that smells like Warm Apple Pie or fall scents. Those are my favorite, especially pumpkin 🙂

Have a great week, Lola! Happy Reading! oxox

    • Thanks! The Jacketz were amazing. I told my boyfriend and he will check his e-mail today or tomorrow. It’s been a bit of a crazy day as we had to bring Smarties to the weekend vet this mornign, she was gasping for breath, the poor thing :(. We’re worried sick about her and spent a total of 4 hours to get her to the weekend vet, be there and then travel back home.

Sometimes being busy can be a good thing or taking a vacation and really taking time off. I hope you have a great vacation! Snickers her legs were a bit better yesterday, but I guess she will always keep this a bit, as long as she eats and drinks well she should keep her strenght up. It’s quite normal for rats to get weak hind legs when they get older.

I hope the ad helps you get some new customers :). There aren’t a lot of pumpkin products here, it’s not that popular yet, although you do see more of it each year. The apple douche gel smells delicious, very warmand sweet and it makes me happy.

    • Snickers is doing better, although she might keep some weakness in her legs forever, but that’s quite normal for older rats. It’s Smarties we’re really worried about now.

  2. Poor rats! You’ve had your hands full I hope they are better soon. I’ve never had Indian food, although I do like new things and it sound interesting.

    • They both require some extra atention and lots of yummies, we certainly have our hands full, I just hope it helps and they both are back to normal soon.
Indian fod is really good, I cook a lot of indian dishes at home as well. I hope you give it a try once!

    • It’s really hard when they are sick. Smarties is always such a happy rat and seeing her down is so hard. She’s really struggling. We went to the vet today and she stayed there for a while, now she’s doing a bit better, but the next days will tell what’s going to happen next and if she can overcome this sickness.

    • It’s just hard some weeks, most weeks are great, but then slow weeks like this make me doubt whether I am doing the right thing with my business. Let’s hope next week is better. Getting out and doing some on friday really helped. We ended up going to the vet with Smarties today and spent most of the day worrying about her as she had to stay there at the vet, in the evening we finally heard she was doing better and we could come and get her. It’s great having her home again.

    • Last year one our anniversary we had a pretty bad restaurant, the year before my boyfriend got food poisoning, so I guess this is improvement over that. Maybe next time we actually have a good restaurant ;). We still ahd a greta day, so the mediocre restaurant didn’t really get us down.
We visited the vet today with Smarties as she was gasping for bretah this morning, but she’s home now again and while still struggling, she’s doing a bit better.

    • We went to the vet with Smarties today, she stayed there for 6 hours. She’s back home now, we hope the worst is over, but she’s still having trouble breathing.

    • The Jacketz are delicious, we have to go to lunch there every time we’re in that city.

We were worried about her this morning as even with the meds from the weekend vet she didn’t improve much, so we made an appointment wiht our regular vet, but she died on the way there. It’s been a hard day. And it was so hard to see her suffer before she died.

  3. Ugh, I’m so sorry to hear that little Smarties is feeling poorly. I really hope everything turns out okay this week for her and you all can slip back into a regular routine again. Thanks again for reviewing Mamachari Matchmaker! I’m glad it gave you a smile. And I hope you’re still enjoying Summer Haikus!

Now that you mentioned Indian food again, I think I’ll make myself some for lunch!
    S. J. Pajonas recently posted…Sunday Update – July 26, 2015My Profile

    • I haven’t had as much time tor ead Summer Haikus due to worrying about Smarties, but I am about 200 of the 300 pages now and stil loving it. The Kami No Sekai stories always make me happy and I enjoy reading them.

I hope you had some indian food for lucnh :). I love indian food!

It’s been hard dealing with Smarties feeling so poorly and then this afternoon we went with her to our regular vet and she suddenly got much worse and died on the way. It was so hard to see her suffer and say goodbye. Her health got so bad so quickly, it’s hard to adjust how one moment she was here running around and now she’s gone.

    • We think Snickers will be her normal self again soon, she just needs a bit extra attention and more yummy food. Unfortunately we lost Smarties today, we were worried about her this morning and on the way to the vet she died. She suddenly got a lot worse.
It’s a shame the fun friday got overshadowed by the worrysome weekend, but it was a fun day. This week will probably be mroe busy again, for which I am actually happy.

  4. Congrats on your seventh anniversary, Lola 🙂 I’m glad you got to spend a day celebrating, eating good food, shopping and just being together 🙂

Your new books look good, and it must be nice that there aren’t too many of them this week 😉 I hope this week will be a little more busy than last, I know what you mean – not having enough to do is almost more stressful than having too much to do.

Have a fantastic week and happy reading.

    • Thanks Lexxie, it certainly was a fun day 🙂

This week is a bit more busy so far, but still not busy enough for my liking. I don’t deal well with having too little to do, but I am hoping I can spend some free time colouring and visiting some blogs as I didn’t got to do much of that this weekend.
