sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?
This week we had some warm weather here in the Netherlands, it really felt like summer. Although we also had some rain and storm as well.

My boyfriend and I watched the rest of the Star Wars movies. And I really enjoyed all of them, although I thought the first three movies (the prequel trilogy) where better then the later three. There was more story and political stuff going on in the first three, while the later three seemed to focus a bit more on the battle. The graphics of the first three films where also better, turns out those where made later so it makes sense that the graphics are a lot better there. Yoda moved so awkward in the old movies. I managed to predicts some plot points, which was fun and my boyfriend was doing his best not to spoil me. I am a bit sad we’ve watched all the movies now. I also liked how it made me think about what really is good and evil. My boyfriend and I had some great talks about some things that happened in the movie or how some things could be done better etc. I want to read the books inspired by the movies now, to see if those are as good as the movies (and because I want more star wars). I think I have a bit of a movie hangover now, I just keep thinking about Star Wars.

I also got some reading done this week and am organizing two new book blitzes over at Lola’s Blog Tours. I didn’t do a lot of job searching this week and am planning to focus on Lola’s Blog Tours for a few weeks. And next week is BEA Armchair! I’ve got all my posts scheduled and decided not to post on theusday as the topics didn’t appeal to me that much and I already had two other posts on the blog that day. Seven kids, Thor’s hammer, and a whole lot of Valkyries are the only things standing against the end of the world.

When thirteen-year-old Matt Thorsen, a modern day descendant of the Norse god Thor, was chosen to represent Thor in an epic battle to prevent the apocalypse he thought he knew how things would play out. Gather the descendants standing in for gods like Loki and Odin, defeat a giant serpent, and save the world. No problem, right?

But the descendants’ journey grinds to a halt when their friend and descendant Baldwin is poisoned and killed and Matt, Fen, and Laurie must travel to the Underworld in the hopes of saving him. But that’s only their first stop on their journey to reunite the challengers, find Thor’s hammer, and stop the apocalypse–a journey filled with enough tooth-and-nail battles and larger-than-life monsters to make Matt a legend in his own right.

Authors K.L. Armstrong and M.A. Marr return to Blackwell in the epic sequel to Loki’s Wolves with more explosive action, adventure and larger-than-life Norse legends.

Someone must die before another can be born…

As sea levels rise and livable landmasses shrink, the Reorganized United States of America has instituted population control measures to ensure there are sufficient resources and food to sustain the growing population. Birth authorization must be paid for and obtained prior to having a child. Someone must die before another can be born, keeping the country in a population neutral position at what experts consider to be the optimal population. The new laws are enforced by a ruthless government organization known as Pop Con, responsible for terminating any children resulting from unauthorized births, and any illegals who manage to survive past their second birthday, at which point they are designated a national security threat and given the name Slip.

But what if one child slipped through the cracks? What if someone knew all the loopholes and how to exploit them? Would it change anything? Would the delicate resource balance be thrown into a tailspin, threatening the lives of everyone?

And how far would the government go to find and terminate the Slip?

In a gripping story of a family torn apart by a single choice, Slip is a reminder of the sanctity of a single life and the value of the lives we so often take for granted.

  1. Looking forward to your BEA Armchair posts.I didn’t do them this time but I want to check them out so maybe I can do them next year.

Glad you enjoyed Star Wars, I have watched the recent 3 they made and I like the old ones better, I think that’s because when I was younger that’s all we had. I know they also have a cartoon for Star Wars they made and are going to make another one soon.

Looking forward to seeing what you think of Mine to Spell, I liked it but it wasn’t what I expected after reading the first one.

Enjoy all your new reads, Have a great week Lola!

    • Last year I saw a lot of blogs participating, but I was too late to sign-up then. This year I made sure to sign-up as soon as I heard the sign-ups where open.

I think it’s because I am more of a fan of story and characters in books as well and something about Annakin’s character just really intrigues me, I liked him better then Luke. And I liked all the politics in the newer movies and this sense that something is happening, things are happening and then in the third mvoie everything falls in place. The last 3 seemed to focus more on the battles, although I still really enjoyed them as well. And the Ewok’s are so adorable! I also really liked 3PO and R2-D2 and how they played an important part in each movie.

I still have only read the prequel to the Mine series, but I hope to have time to read the first 2 books soon!

  2. Mine to Spell is one I’ve seen around a bit. I’m intrigued by it but haven’t gotten my hands on it yet. YAY for Star Wars. I think those who maybe saw the original 3 movies in theaters think those are the better ones, but I’m with you on thinking the newer 3 were better. Hope you have a great week!

    • I have only read the prequel to the Mine series so far, but now I do own the first two books as well :).
I think indeed that it’s different when you saw the old movies first and then the newer movies later. I also think it changes the whole way you view the movie. As the plot twist in the first 3 movies isn’t such a big deal if you have seen the last 3 already.

  3. I’m ashamed to say I haven’t seen all the Star Wars movies, I should really upgrade. I’m not so sure the novels written after the films are that good, they seldom are, but when you read them, please leave a review ! Have a great week 😉

    • Which movies have you seen? I really enjoyed them all. I actually have to admit I never read a book that was written after a movie, only the other way around.
I just bought the book of the prequel trilogy, I’ve read some good reviews on Goodreads which led me to believe I would enjoy them. Some reviewers said there is a bit more depth to the relationship, which felt a bit rushed in the book and the motivations of some people are made more clear. Although there weren’t that many reviews of the book on goodreads. I’ll make sure review them once I’ve read them :).

  4. I like the Star Wars movies too, prefer the original ones but you’re probably right, many of us who grew up with those tend to prefer them. They’re all fun adventures… are you excited about Episode VII due next year? I have to say I am, and hope they do it right!

Have a great week, looks like a good week lined up.

    • There will be more movies :O? I didn’t know that, I did found some rumors on the internet about another 3 films being releaseds, but didn’t know whether it was true. I sure will be watching them if they make more movies! And I agree with you I hope they do it right.

  5. I agree I like the original three better as well, just so much more to it and I love the nostalgic feeling to them watching them all over again. Reminds me of seeing them for the first time.
    Congrats on all the books!

    • Sorry for the confusion, I actually like the newer movies better. So the three movies that are chronological 1-3, so Annakin’s story. It’s a bit confusing trying to make sure which 3 peisode I am talking about. It doesn’t have that nostalgic feeling for me as I just seen them now for the first time, but I can imagine what it would be like for people who saw it a long time ago.

    • Yeah I have a ot going on, but it was still a fun week :). Not doing any job searching for some weeks really helped getting my spirits up again. Book blitzes are usually promo posts, so they are handy for filling up open spots in your schedule, at least that’s what I usually do :).
