sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?
This week I still didn’t do as much job searching, but overal it was a busy, but fun week. I got a lot of blogging done and had one day on which I wrote and scheduled 7 diferent blog posts. I wrote most of my Armchair BEA posts this week and I can’t wait to share them with you all, I had so much fun writing them. Only one more to write. And I tried somethign new in a cover reveal post this week, a cover review, basically I write a short review with my thoughts about the cover. I hope this adds a more personal touch to cover reveals posts on my blog and make them more interesting for visitors to read. I would love to hear your thoughts about this!

Another thing that happened this week was, we got a new rat cage. The cage where our rats where in at first actually wasn’t a rat cage and we had metal netting aroudn the whole cage so our rats couldn’t escape the cage. Also it was terrible to clean it. And now we finally bought a new cage, the new cage is almost twice the size of their previous cage and it was really easy to assemble. And the lattice are closer together in this cage, so they can’t escape. The rats seem happy with their new cage so far, although they did have to get used to it at first. Here’s a picture of their old and new cage.

My boyfriend and I started watching Star Wars this week. normally I don’t watch a lot of movies and I never had seen Star Wars before, but my boyfriend wanted to rewatch the series, so I decided to watch it with him and guess what I love it so far! We’ve seen the first two episodes, I do keep asking my boyfriend questions. I usually do that a lot while watchign a movie as I want to understand everything and always think there isn’t enough world building, as my boyfriend had already seen the movies he was able to fill in some gaps.
And I finally realised that all these thoughts I had about sci-fi being boring weren’t true at all. And I added sci-fi as a genre I accept for review to my review policy on my blog, I am looking for some sci-fi recommendations, so if you know a good sci-fi book, please let me know!

So yeah this was a busy and eventfull week, but also a fun week :).

Blurb:
An eggplant wails, a ladder breaks, and the guise of civility shatters.

A professor of festival studies, a potato hunter, a deadly career counselor, and a part-time terrorist are struggling to retain their sanity in a magically mundane city. Their carefully laid plans fall apart when they meet Mr. Pearson, an everyman who suspects a conspiracy of evil polygons behind his company’s absurd practices.

Theirs is a world in which people use raw produce and wasted time to alter reality. If it were not for the stringent safety standards on fruits and vegetables, the citizens would live in misery. Most live a life of willful ignorance instead, desperate to avoid facing the threats surrounding them. Festival season is about to begin, but the colorful banners cannot hide the tragic past any longer.

Blurb:
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cora Carmack follows up her trio of hits—Losing It, Faking It, and Finding It—with this thrilling first novel in an explosive series bursting with the Texas flavor, edge, and steamy romance of Friday Night Lights.

In Texas, two things are cherished above all else—football and gossip. My life has always been ruled by both.

Dallas Cole loathes football. That’s what happens when you spend your whole childhood coming in second to a sport. College is her time to step out of the bleachers, and put the playing field (and the players) in her past.

But life doesn’t always go as planned. As if going to the same college as her football star ex wasn’t bad enough, her father, a Texas high school coaching phenom, has decided to make the jump to college ball… as the new head coach at Rusk University. Dallas finds herself in the shadows of her father and football all over again.

Carson McClain is determined to go from second-string quarterback to the starting line-up. He needs the scholarship and the future that football provides. But when a beautiful redhead literally falls into his life, his focus is more than tested. It’s obliterated.

Dallas doesn’t know Carson is on the team. Carson doesn’t know that Dallas is his new coach’s daughter.

And neither of them know how to walk away from the attraction they feel.

Then she meets Javier and revenge doesn’t seem nearly as important as getting to know the troubled loner determined to keep a low profile at camp. But Alex’s trouble-magnet personality and Javier’s need to stay in the background don’t mix nearly as well as their irresistible chemistry.

With her home life eroding under her feet and her last year of summer camp speeding to a close, Alex wants to make her mark on the world and squeeze every bit of fun out of her time with Javier. Too bad her old plans for revenge turn back on her just in time to ruin everything. Will she lose Javier too?

    • We plan on watching the rest of the Star Wars episodes this week :). I never would’ve thought I would like Star Wars. Also I am not sure whether we’re watching the oldest version or not, the graphics are still pretty good. And I am really happy with the new rat cage, it’s so big and the rats have much more space now.

    • Yeah I suddenly had a bout of inspiration for some posts and I just kept writing. A few where easier posts like this sunday post and a cover reveal, but I was actually surprised too that I managed to draft that many posts.

    • I agree, The Culling sounds really good and different! I really hope the rats are happier in their new cage, they have much mroe space. I still have to get used to arranged their hammocks and such in the new cage as this one is sqaure instead of rectangular like their old cage.

  1. Can’t wait to read your 7 posts! I didn’t do Armchair BEA since I was going on Friday this year but I wonder if I should do it anyway….not sure if I will have enough time to write them all.

I absolutly LOVE the review idea for Cover Reveals! That is really a great idea I can’t wait to see how you set that up!

The cage looks great I hope all your little fuzzy friends love it. It does look a lot bigger.

I love Star Wars, I have seen them all quite a few times. I want my son to see them but I’m not sure in what order to go. What order did you go in? Old ones first then new? Last week my husband thought a Wookiee was Pink and Purple…I think he needs to watch them too 🙂

    • One of those 7 posts is this Sunday Post and another one was the cover reveal post this week and the food tens list also was one of those 7. The other 4 where all Armchair BEA posts I think.

I already tried the cover reveal review thing in this post: http://lolasreviews.com/cover-reveal-bound-in-blue-by-heather-hamilton-senter/
I hope this helps make cover reveal posts more interesting.

Yeah it isn’t the best picture to show the difference, but the new cage is about twice as large. They seem to like it so far, although I have to figure out how to arrange everythign in their new cage.

I have no idea what order we go in to be honest. The first episode was where they visited that sand planet and found the young skywalker and then in the next episode he’s older. I don’t think there where wookiees so far in what we’ve seen, but my boyfriend did mention them. Edit: We’re watching the chronological order.

  2. Yay for watching Star Wars! I love those movies (and sci-fi in general), though the originals are still, imo, the best. 🙂 You should check out Firefly (a TV series) and then the follow up movie (Serenity), if you haven’t seen it already, and want to check out more SciFi. It’s got Nathan Fillion in it. *swoons*

Looks like you had a busy, but enjoyable week. I hope this next one is just as fun. Happy reading (and movie watching)!

    • I haven’t seen Firefly yet, I don’t watch a lot of tv or movies. I’ll check it out to see if it’s something I would like. I defintely are interested in watching and reading more sci-fi from now on.
      Thanks for stopping by!

  3. I am reading All Lined Up at the moment and after reading about 40% of it, I’m really liking it so far. But I kind of knew that I would like it the moment I heard it being compared to Friday Night Lights. 🙂
    Have a good week!

    • I think I am around 50-60% into All Lined Up and I am really enjoying it as well :). I never heard of Friday Night Lights though.

  4. I like the idea of your cover review, that’s a great idea. Covers are so important and it’s nice to share thoughts on them. Congrats on the new cage too, it does look a lot bigger.

Glad you guys are watching Star Wars, I love those movies (well the originals anyway). Seems like it would be fun to discover them for the first time and watch them all at once. Cloud City in episode V is awesome! I also recently started playing a Star Wars MMO game and it’s been a blast. People running around with lightsabers all over… I’m having to much fun.

    • I like to share covers on my blog and I hope in this way to make cover reveal posts more interesting for the visitor as well.
The new cage is a lot bigger, we keep almost walking against it and misjudging the size because we’re so used to the smaller cage, but after a few weeks that will be over I hope.

We just watched episode 3, although that scene at the end of episode 3 is a bit gruesome. It indeed it fun to discover them for the first time and it even feels a bit off, because while I was little everyone knew Star Wars and I didn’t and only now I know what I was missing.

    • I agree The Secret of Isobel sounds really interesting and I am glad I finally bought it, it’s been on my wishlist for quite some time. I hope to get my last Armchair BEA post written this week.

  5. I haven’t heard of all these books before, but I must say I’m intrigued! Can’t wait to see what you think of them all – especially The Secret of Isobel Key as that sounds really interesting. Thanks for sharing Lola, and, as always, GREAT haul! Happy reading! ❤

    • I am really enjoying it and it’s quite a complex story with multiple plots going on, I am really enjoyed it. And my boyfriend and I keep talking through the movie to predict what’s going to happen or give commentary on the movie, it’s a lot of fun!

  6. Love the new cage, you can see them much much better in the new one I think.
And well done you for writing all those blog posts, I wish I could do it, at the moment I’m almost writing them on the day I post which doesn’t leave me a lot of room to wriggle 🙂
You know what, Star Wars is one of those movies / series I never watched. Saying this, I tried it once in the 80’s for about 1/2 hour and could get into it, so didn’t try since. Maybe that’s what I should try and try watching them again. Taste change, doesn’t it. I was a teenager in the 80’s …
Have a great week and Happy Reading.

    • Yeah that’s bacause there is an extra layer of really tiny latice over the old cage, which amde it more difficult to look into the cage from outside.
Usually I don’t write them this far in advance either or at least not that many posts on one day. I do try to schedule a post as soon as I receive the materials for them.
I never thought I would like star wars I just knew it was going to be boring and then my boyfriend wanted to watch it and I like watching movies together and it’s disracting when i try to do something else, so verry reluctantly I decided to watch it with him and guess what I loved it. Although it can be a bit confusing at times and I was lucky my boyfriend could explain some things. And some things just don’t make sense (like the battle scenes next to the lava, as they should’ve died from the heath). But the story is pretty good and interesting and I like the politics and the light sabers are awesome.
