Sunday Post #64

sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?
Again a busy week. I am organizing a new book blitz over at Lola’s Blog Tours. I defrosted and cleaned the fridge. And I still didn’t heard back from my job interview. I am pretty sure that means I didn’t got the job, but who knows?

I also spend some time updating the My Reviews page on my blog. Since the move to wordpress, none of the links where working and the formatting on all past posts was horrible. So I updated all the links and reformatted the posts. It took a lot of time, but it’s also really satisfying to have those posts look good now and have less broken links.

And another small thing that changed, I now added the banners of the blog tours and book blitzes I am organizing over at Lola’s Blog Tours to my sidebar. And I think I finally settled on a style for my book haul :).

I still have little time to read and I hate it, I just can’t seem to find the time to read and I have a few review books with deadlines I still have to read.

This week I posted about:
Blog Tour: Shattered Veil (The Diatous Wards #1) by Tracy Banghart

It’s the year 2185, and in two weeks, Aloy will turn eighteen and take her father’s place as president of the country. But to do so, she must masquerade as a boy to avoid violating the Eco-Accords, four treaties designed to bring the world back from the brink of environmental extinction. Aloy hopes to govern like her father, but she is inheriting a different country. The long concealed Technology Faction is stepping out of the shadows, and as turmoil grows within her country, cryptic threats also arrive from beyond their borders.

As she struggles to lead, Aloy maintains her cover by marrying a woman, meanwhile battling feelings for the boy who knows her secret – the boy who is somehow connected to her country’s recent upheaval. When assassination attempts add to the turmoil, Aloy doesn’t know whom to trust. She understood leadership required sacrifice. She just didn’t realize the sacrifice might be her life.

Sixteen-year-old Andi is tired of being a second-class sibling to perfect sister Laina. The only thing Andi’s sure she has going for her is her awesome hair. And even that is eclipsed by Laina’s perfect everything else.

When Andi’s crush asks her to fix him up with Laina, Andi decides enough is enough, and devises a twelve-step program to wrangle the spotlight away from Laina and get the guy.

Step 1: Admit she’s powerless to change her perfect sister, and accept that her life really, really sucks.

Step 4: Make a list of her good qualities. She MUST have more than just great hair, right?

Step 7: Demand attention for more than just the way she screws things up.

When a stolen kiss from her crush ends in disaster, Andi realizes that her twelve-step program isn’t working. Her prince isn’t as charming as she’d hoped, and the spotlight she’s been trying to steal isn’t the one she wants.

As Laina’s flawless façade begins to crumble, the sisters work together to find a spotlight big enough for both to shine.

What if the Pacific Northwest seceded from the United States? In 2063, it has.

The climate change that’s devastated all but the Northwest corner of the U.S. has been around since before Piper Hall was born. She doesn’t spend much time thinking about it, the secession that created Cascadia, or the closed border, erected to keep out climate refugees. All she wants is to get through high school and earn a medical degree so she can pull her family out of poverty. Piper’s sure her little brother’s stories about poor people vanishing are just rumors—until she comes home to an empty house. Losing her future, her family, and her freedom and forced into hiding, Piper has to find a way to get to the bottom of the disappearances. But the only one who can help might be the very boy whose family has displaced her own.

Deception, Episode 1, Season 1, of The McCall Initiative serial, is approximately 69 pages or 24,000 words.

A father’s love doesn’t bend, so what happens when it breaks?

Corruption, dark truths, and a new Alpha mean Leon Gray’s days of running without a pack are over. At least, that’s what everyone but him believes.

He’d rather be helping his teenage daughter navigate the landmine life of a full werewolf, finish out his servitude as bodyguard to a former Demos City reporter and, in all honesty, not be taken advantage of by a beautiful woman who really only wants him for his body—figuratively and metaphorically.

Of course, the only way any of that might happen is if he’s dead. That’s likely given the information the reporter has unearthed and the territorial battles already underway between packs. If only Demos City’s corruption didn’t have such deep roots—older than the bones of the city or any of the werewolves who’ve decided to claim it. A city can only take so many power hungry mongrels invading it at one time, and Leon can only take so much knowing his daughter lives within its boundaries.

War has come to Demos City.

It’s up to Leon to fix … what’s most important to him.

  1. My old post also look awful! I have a years worth to fix and link up to my reviews page. I plan to one weekend just spend all weekend fixing just the reviews first then go back and fix everything else. I think the reviews will be easy to fix.

I have been avoiding a lot of review requests. I only do about 1 a month. It can get overwhelming and I was starting to get super stressed out. No I spend a lot of time reading what I want with a few requests thrown in but that still doesn’t make me get a lot of reviews up. I have been such a slow reader this year its making me sad. Just have so much in the “real world” to do it like I can’t find the time.

Loving your book haul, I use ThingLink to show my haul it’s so easy and links the book right to goodreads. However I do like your format. I am very interested in Twelve Steps, I think I just saw that one on a blog tour.

    Have a great week
    Michelle 🙂

    • I am so glad I managed to have all my review posts look good now. There are still a lot of other posts that still look horrible, not sure whether I will be fixing those or not.

I just can’t resist accepting review requests sometimes, there are so many books i want to read and with money being tight accepting review requests sounds like a good option to still being able to read those books. I think I accepted a bit too many review books after each other and I am only reading 6 books in a month at the moment. So yeah it can be a bit stressing :(.

I am glad to hear you like my book haul, it takes a bit more time using this set up, but I think it looks better now and I like having the blurb included. Although with large hauls, this system might not work as well. I’ll be using this format form now on :).

And I agree Twelve Steps sounds really good! I got it for review for a blog tour ;), might be the same tour you saw.

  2. It’s no fun when you have a pile of reviews to get done and can’t find either the time or motivation to get on with it. I hate it when reading becomes a chore not a pleasure! I had that last autumn and I realised I had taken on way too much for myself so I’ve really scaled back on the review books this winter. I need to clear this out of control tbr in my house and on my computer before I take on other books. Just not enough hours in the day…Good luck!

    • While most of the review books I have are books I want to read, it still feels a bit like a chore when so many books have a deadline. But it’s my own fault too, I just chould accept less review requests, but there are so many good sounding books out there and then I just can’t say no. Let’s hope I have some more time for non-review books soon.

  3. Elected and Twelves Steps both look really good! I’m with you, I love to have everything look nice. I want to go back to my old reviews and update the formatting a little bit, but I just haven’t had the time to do more than a couple. It’s really time consuming, but I know I’ll be really glad I did it when I get them all updated. Hope you have a great week!

    • I have to say it’s a lot of work, I think it took me about 8 hours and that’s only for updating the links on my reviews page and change the formatting for each of those posts. It’s really worth it when you’re finally done with it though.
I am contemplating updating all my older posts once (not only the review posts), but not sure about that yet.

I am really looking forard to both Elected and Twelve Steps. Concerning Elected, I just can’t resist a good story about a girl that has to disguise as a boy, it always reminds me of mulan, I loved that movie. And Twelve Steps sounds like a great book and the cover is so sweet!

    • I came across it on an author’s blog and I just had to grab my copy of the first episode. I like it when the first book in a serial is free so you can check out if you like it first. It sounds realy interesting!

    • I really like the cover for Twelve Steps too, it’s so cute! And I like the sound of the blurb and how it’s about two sisters.

Concerning the job, it’s weird as they said I would hear back this week, but indeed maybe something happened and I’ll heard back next week.

    • Thanks for stopping by Lexxie :). I can’t wait to read both Elected and Twelve Steps. Although Elected might have to wait a bit, as it’s a review book without a deadline and I have some books to read and review with deadlines first.

    • I am just getting a bit annoyed, as the whole application process already is taking more than a month. I prefer to like to know what to expect early on. I guess I’ll just have to be patient.

    • I just want to know whether I am to the next round or not, I hate the not knowing and waiting. I am really glad to have fixed some things on the blog this week 🙂

    • I hope Elected is as good as it sounds :). And Twelve Steps indeed sounds adorable, it will be one of my next few reads as I have to read it in time for a review stop during a blog tour.

  4. I know what you mean by not having enough time to read. Tours seem to cut into my reading time a lot. I’ve been re-managing things a little so that hopefully I can get more reading in. I hope you have a great week! I’ll see you on the tour for His Hometown Girl. 🙂

    • I love reading books for review for tours, but sometimes when you sign-up for too many after each other it can get a bit too busy. I hope I have more time to read this week!

  5. Oh gosh, I would have lost the will to live when re-doing all the links, but you are right, it is satisfying when its done. See if you can squeeze in some reading time in ’empty time’ i.e. do you travel on trains / or waiting times in shops / lunch breaks. That’s what I do. Lots of blog tours for you to go through, but you don’t want to disappoint of course, I can understand. Have a great week and Happy Reading!

    • It wasn’t that bad and it’s work for which you don’t need much attention, so that’s nice for a chance. And it’s so satisfying when it’s done.
squeezing in reading in empty time is a good idea, although nowadays I don’t have that many travel time or waiting times.
Luckily most of the blog tour reviews books are books I am looking forward to read, so that helps, but I still feel a bit stressed because of the pressure to read it before a certain date.
