sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a decent week, but I got some bad news toward the end. So it ended up being a bit of a mixed week.

My arm started hurting again this week, this time the pain is in a different location. I hope I can give it some more rest next week and hopefully it will do better. I also managed to break an important program om my computer, but luckily after a few attempts I got it working again. And I am dealing with a really weird computer issue where suddenly everything slows down until it stops working and I have to force a restart to get it working again. It seems to be some sort of memory issue, but besides that I haven’t figured out anything else.

It was a decent week for work. I put a new book blitz live this week. A bookstagram blitz I had organized ran and ended this week, so I did some work on that. I worked on some future tours. And I did some assistant work.

Unfortunately one of my authors notified me they will need me for less hours going forward, so I am now looking even harder for a new author to do assistant work for or try and get more authors for my tours. So if you hear anyone who could use an author assistant or blog tour, please refer them to me. I would really appreciate it.

I love doing this work and don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t do this work anymore. I am not really fit for normal jobs, so I really hope I can keep doing this work. I love having my own company and book marketing is my passion. Unfortunately these past few months have been tough, not sure whether it’s due to corona or one of the normal downs as my business always has some ups and downs. And now that my boyfriend is losing his job soon, it’s even more important that my income remains steady, so I hope I can find some more work. It’s really worrying when those things happen around the same time. So that got me a bit down this week.

After that I decided to change up my assistant work page a bit, so it’s easier to get an overview of the different types of work I can do and not bog it down with too much details. I hope that helps potential authors better see if I am a good fit for them. I am happy with how it looks. I am still working on getting some more testimonials from my current authors to add to the page and then it should be all complete.

I haven’t made as much time for blogging these past few weeks sadly. My apologies for not stopping by other blogs as often.

August Reading Stats

I read 14 books in August. 3 were non-fiction books, 5 fantasy books, 2 cozy mystery books, 3 contemporary romance books and 1 historical book. 4 were novella lenght and the rets were full lenght books. I got a ncie mix of sources again this month, with 8 of the books being ones I got for review, 1 free and 5 books I bought. My favorite read was Wild Sky by Zaya Feli, you can read my review here.

What did I read this week?

Best Laid Plaids Kenya CallingA Cop and a Coop

Best Laid Plaids was a DNF sadly, I didn’t connect with this one. There seemed to be too much focus on lust and not enough ghosts. Kenya Calling was an engaging fast paced paranormal romantic suspense read. I liked the plot line and there were some great twists. I didn’t really feel the romance as it felt a bit rushed, but I did like the characters. A Cop and a Coop has an awesome mystery, plenty of progression and clues, but also some great twists and reveals. I liked the narrator’s style for this one.

Food Corner

I made some delicious cookies with chocolate chips and pecan nuts this week, so I thought that would make for a good topic for this week’s food corner: cookies with chocolate chips! These are four of my favorite recipes for cookies with chocolate chips.

Publishable by DeathChecked InMy Heart and SoulMy Safe HavenSocial Media for WritersPatterns in the Dark

Publishable by Death, Checked In, Social Media for Writers and Patterns in the Dark I bought. Publishable by Death is a new to me series and author that sounded good to me. Social Media for Writers sounded like a good non-fiction book as I am interested in social media and haven’t read a non-fiction book about that yet. Checked In and Patterns in the Dark are future books in series I started. My Heart and Soul and My Safe Haven I got for review, those are the last two books in this series.

What was your favorite read from August?

  1. I’m sorry work has been so slow, Lola. These are scary times indeed. My husband’s company is close to going bankrupt, and he’s very upset about that, of course. Thank goodness I got a full-time position teaching this year.
Sending you some good vibes for everything – including your arm.

    • I am sorry to hear about your husband’s company being close to bankrupt. These really are scary times. I am glad to hear you managed to get a full-time teaching position this year.

  2. Those cookies look delicious. My computer slows down for no reason to. I have to erase cookies and restart it and it’s fast again. But I’m still working with Windows 7.

    • I think my issues might be because of the latest update that messed something up. Sorry to hear you have troubles with your computer slowing down.

  3. Bummer about the bad news you got and then the computer slowing down. Hopefully the memory issue will be a quick fix for you.

I’ll be happy to share on my social media accounts about your business. If you have any sales or package deals you want shared to catch authors’ notice, send it along to me and I’ll happily post on them. I do have several authors who are in my follow numbers and maybe that will get their attention.

Yummy cookies in your food corner this week.

You did great on your reading stats for August and like you, I enjoy seeing that they come from a variety of sources and for a variety of genres. Bummer about the one DNF, but if it’s blah and not grabbing you then best to move on to one that does.

Wishing you well and a good month of September, Lola!

    • I think I figured a bit more about the computer issue, so I hope I can fix it or it will resolve itself.

Aww thanks! I really appreciate that! I don’t have any discounts running at the moment, as I did one not too long ago, but I hope to plan my future discounts soon. At the moment I am just trying to post about my business regularly.

I always like seeing the variety of genres and sources I read in a month.

  4. ooo I love cookies with nuts, especially pecans! I hope things turn around and you and your boyfriend find some opportunities that work for you. This year is tough for a lot of people and I worry about it, pretty much every day. I’m fine. Some things are more expensive but since I’m retired I have the same money I would have normally. (I ran my own business for years) Happy reading!

    • Same here, pecans in cookies are the best! It really has been a tough year for a lot of people. I hope things pick up for my business soon. That’s nice you get the same money you have normally, as you ran your own business I am sure you know the struggle of not havign that guarantee every month.

  5. Oh no sorry to hear about your arm! I hope you feel better soon. Computer issues are no fun either. Looks like you had a good reading month. and cookies- yummy!!!

Good luck with the work stuff! I’m sorry to hear your boyfriend is losing his job, and that things are slowing down… hopefully that’s temporary and things pick up again. Sending lots of good vibes your way…

    • Thanks! My arm has been hurting on and off for a few months now, I hope this week goes better again. The computer issue has been a pain, I hope I can resolve it soon.

Thanks! I hope it’s temporary and things pick up again. It’s just bad timing with it all happening at the same time.

    • I hope my arm and computer troubles will resolve itself soon. It really is tough losing work, especially in these times when the past few months had been difficult already. I really appreciate that you keep my mind in case you see an author who could use my help. The yummy cookies do help to make me feel a bit better :).

  6. It sounds like it’s been a rough week all round, Lola:(. I hope that work picks up and you sort out what is going on with the computer slowing down – that sounds mightily annoying! And I hope you also manage to fix the arm pain – I hope you have a wrist rest and a good quality gaming keyboard. I write in the region of 400,000+ words a year and have been for a while now – and I simply couldn’t do it without the right equipment. I will also keep a lookout for any author friends who are on the lookout for an assistant. I hope the coming week is a kinder one.x

    • It really was a rough week all round. I have a great quality keyboard, but I think I might need to look into a new mouse or wrist rest. I have to find some time to research options, but that’s hard to do with everything else going on. Having the right equipment definitely is important.

And thanks for keeping a lookout for author friends who might need an assistant. I really appreciate that!

  7. Mmm, all of those cookies look delicious! I’m sorry to hear that you’ve lost some work this month. I posted about you on Facebook so I’m hoping that will help spread the word for you. I wish I had more stuff for you to do! I’ve been thinking about doing a blog tour now for the Flyght Series now that it’s complete. What do you think about that? Let me know. Because we did one for the Nogiku Series when it was complete (I think) and that one did well!

    • I love cookies with chocolate chips. Thanks so much for posting on Facebook! I really appreciate the help. And I am already really grateful for the work I can do for you, it’s always great to work with you.

Sure we could do a blog tour or book blitz for your Flyght series. It’s always fun to do tours for complete series :). I’ll email you about it later this week so we can discuss options for that.

  8. I’m sorry to hear that things have slowed, I think the way things are have just knocked everything for six. People are cautious, but people need books more than ever so fingers crossed it picks up for you.

    • I agree people are more cautious in these times, so that probably explains it. I do agree people need books more than ever now, so I hope my business will pick up again as well.

  9. I hope you are able to get your computer problems resolved and you are able to rest your arm so it can heal. I am so sorry to hear about your boyfriend’s job situation and hope yours will improve and you find more work to take on. It’s such a difficult time.

I hope this week is going better for you! Take care and happy reading!
