sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This is my 400th Sunday Post! How awesome is that? I started doing the Sunday Post feature when I first started blogging, so this means my blog is 400 weeks old now ;).

This week was warm. It really was a tough week with how warm it was, I don’t deal well with the heat. Although at the end of the week it got a bit cooler and those few degrees made all the difference, it’s still really warm, but a bit less so. It also made it difficult to sleep with the heat.

I did get a great tip from Shelleyrae and Sophia as a reply to my last Sunday Post to deal with the heat induced headaches, they recommended using wash cloths to cool down. First you wet the wash cloth, then wring it out and put those in the fridge and then when cool put it on your face or neck. This has been great. I used this technique multiple times this week and one time when I felt a headache coming up I used this to prevent it. I have 4 washcloths in the fridge at the moment, so I can grab one or two whenever I get too warm. It’s the only thing that helped a little bit. I also tried putting my feet in cold water, that helps, but also makes me feel uncomfortable as it makes my feet feel frozen. So I mostly stick with the cool washcloths too cool down.

Despite the heat I somehow managed to get some work done. I put a new review opportunity live for a YA horror book. I did some extra assistant work for one of my authors, besides the usual work. I also sent out a new newsletter to my author list and updated my site page where I list recommended resources, podcasts and non-fiction books for authors. I added two new podcasts I listened to this week as well as an awesome new Fb group for wide authors that I discovered.

I ran into some problems with my site. Some javascript thing got removed in the newest wordpress update and caused some things to go wonky on my sites. I found a work around for now, but half of my plugins and themes now have warnings from the plugin that they’re using the outdated script. Hopefully those get fixed soon. If you’re having any problems after the wordpress update check out the jQuery Migrate Helper plugin as that should resolve the issue and warn you which plugins and themes are outdated. As for my theme I ended up buying a new theme as my current theme won’t be updated for the javascript thing, so I hope to get that installed soon.

What did I read this week?

Wrong DirectionMy Leap of FaithRomance Your BrandFollowing

Wrong Direction was a fun short romantic read with some steam. I liked the set-up for this story and how we got a feel for both characters. My Leap of Faith was a beautiful romance story about two broken characters who find love again. Romance Your Brand didn’t really resonate with me, but it had some great nuggets of information and I think this one might be handy for romance authors. Following was a short non-fiction book about how to set up the basics for your author platform. I thought this was a nice and informative read, not much new information for me, but I think this is great for new authors as it clear explains how to set up the basics of your platform. And it’s free if you sign up for the authors newsletter!

  1. Glad the cooled wash clothes were helpful. I used a cooled bandana around my neck when out in the heat working in my garden this week. Hopefully the weather will cool down for you. We’re expected to get slightly cooler temps this week and I can’t wait.
What a pain that your javascript was giving you trouble, but glad you found a work around.
Your summer dishes look good. The shrimp udon really sounds delicious right now. 🙂
Neat that you got books for review from two favorite authors.
    Have a good week, Lola!

  2. Happy 400 Posts! I wish I had kept track but how awesome!
It has been hot here also and even with AC the house is still super hot. I have been taking two cold showers a day just to keep cool.

I LOVE Couscous. It is one of my favorites but I am really the only one that likes it. I need to find different ways to make it since my husband tends to stay away from it.

I hope you have a great week, Lola! Happy Reading! xx

    • I didn’t know what to title them so that’s why I stuck with simply numbering them, it is cool to be able to see now how many I’ve done.

Sorry to hear it’s so hot where you live as well.

That’s too bad you’re the only one who loves couscous. Maybe try it with an Italian tomato pasta sauce once? I did that once instead of pasta and it was quite good.

  3. 400 posts, that’s about 8 years! Congrats. I am glad to hear the washcloths helped you. My daughter keeps gel packs in the freezer and you could do that with washcloths also.

The heat has broken here by just a few degrees and a north wind now so we will have a few nicer days.

    • I think my blog will be 8 years early December indeed. The washcloths really helped with the heat. Gel packs in the freezer is a good idea as well.

We finally had some nicer temperatures this week.

  4. Happy 400 posts!

I’m so glad my advice has helped. For your feet, fill a wide bucket with a party ice bag and a bit of water. Just step into it for a few minutes every half hour or so… or when you go to change the cloth on your neck. It should last all day.
    Plus drink lots of water!

Wishing you a great reading week

    • Thanks! The tip for the wash cloth was great. My feet don’t like it if I keep them in a bucket of water, but maybe stepping in it now and then would work. I’ll have to try that next time. I’ve been drinking a lot of water indeed :).

    • 70 still is a great number :).

Sorry to hear it’s been so warm in Scotland as well. I didn’t know things like cooling towels existed, might have to see if I can find those next time it gets this warm.

  5. Great tip on keeping cool! I like that idea a lot. I’m sure it’s helpful for those heat headaches. I saw your spring rolls and right away I want some. Lol. And I’m sorry to hear about the javascript problems! I haven’t updated any of my sites to 5.5 yet and I’m wary to do it just yet. I want to give the plugin developers a little more time first before I make the leap.

    • It really helped to cool down a bit and prevent the heat headaches. I haven’t made spring rolls in a while, i really should try and make them again soon.

That’s probably smart you haven’t updated yet. I didn’t realize there was such a big thing in this update and everything looked fine at first so I did my other site as well. Ah well at least the plugin helps until my other plugins have updated. Now I just need to find time to set up the new theme.

  6. I’m sorry about the heat, but I’m glad you found a way to keep the heat induced headaches at bay!! I hope it cools down for you this week.

I need to check out a few of your recipes, they sound like they might be what we need for some variety in our meals!

Have a great week and stay safe!

    • It cooled down a bit this week, so that helped :).

I have all my recipes listed on my recipe page if you want to check it out or if you’re looking for something specific just let me know and I can give you some recommendations.

I try and list some of my recipes here now and then as I have so many of them and I feel like not many people know to find them, so i hope this shines some more attention on them
