sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

Whew this was a full and busy week that didn’t go as smoothly as I had hoped. Last Sunday the clocks here went an hour back, which meant more time, but it always takes a few days to get used to the time change. It was a pretty busy week in terms of work. I put two new sign-up posts live, then on Monday I had three torus I organized start and a media kit for next weeks tour that had to go out. As it was the last month of the week I had to wrap up the assistant work for my authors for this month and make a start on the new month’s work.

Then on Thursday I woke up with a bad headache. I even took a nap, but the whole day felt off and I wasn’t as productive. I’ve been feeling a bit tired ever since. Friday I felt a bit better, but it still didn’t go as smoothly as I had hoped, although at least I got the most important things done, it still felt like I was running behind on quite some things too. I got catch up on most of it Saturday, but still didn’t get as much done as I had hoped those last few days.

We finished watching season one of the Magicians and decided to stop the series. It had a great premise and the magic was pretty cool, but it ended up having lots of gore, in unexpected weird ways. And dramatic and heavy topics thrown in and it felt mostly for shock value. Everything got touched upon shortly with a shocking scene and then was basically forgotten or quickly wrapped up. We had hoped for something more light hearted and focus on the magic. Not enough magic and too much drama and shock value scenes. I sadly can’t recommend it.

On the bright side we watched the movie Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle this weekend, which was a great movie and quite funny too. I would definitely recommend that one if you’re looking for a fun adventure/ LitRPG movie. I alos did do some good reading this week and finished 3 great books. And I won an Amazon Gift Card, which I was really happy about and bought a few new books with it already.

It was a great reading week and it’s always nice when I have some good reads especially when I have a busy week. The Horse Mistress Book 3 was great and I started book 4 right after it on my ipad and it was a great ending to this part of the series. Witchnapped in Westerham was a fun paranormal cozy mystery series and I enjoyed it a lot and already bought the next two books.

  1. Bummer about the headache, but glad you got lots of work done. I’m with you on not wanting gore and heavy topics in my viewing so I’d probably not like that show, either. I’ve been watching the remade Magnum PI about once a week because I liked the old one and the remake isn’t bad. 🙂
Yay for winning a GC and getting a stack of good books with it. I won one and was able to pick up three books off my wish list, too. Lucky us!

Your reading numbers were great for this month. I guess you love reading in the fall. LOL Nice variety of genre type, romance type, and point of view. I am slowing getting where I like first person now and then which helps when I want to pick up a YA or NA.

Hope you have a fantastic November, Lola!

    • It was a really nasty headache and I hate how they can mess up a few days. The gore and heavy topics just felt a bit overdone and mostly there for shock value in The Magicians and it just didn’t work for me.

I was so happy to have won the gift card and being able to buy some books I wanted with it.

not sure what caused it, but it was a great month for reading and quite some variety too.

  2. Sorry about the headache and that The Magicians show didn’t work out for you :-/ But yay for finding some good books! And congrats on winning the gift card! Ooh pumpkin tomato soup sounds good. I’ve never tried that, but I do like tomato and red pepper soup!

    • The pumpkin tomato soup turned out pretty good. I’ll have to try and do a recipe post about it once I can find a way to replace the package I used as soup base.

I was so happy to win a gift card so I could buy the Lion Mistress books 🙂

  3. I haven’t won a giveaway in forever! Maybe not since winning one of your giveaways a few years ago. But this is mainly because I hardly ever enter any. I just either forget about it or don’t see the giveaways. Sounds like you had a super busy week and look at all the books you read in October! Nice job!

    • I don’t win as often either and it can be hard to find giveaways sometimes, but I know a few blogs that post a lot of giveaways and sometimes authors run them in a newsletter or social media. And I admit I was specifically entering more giveaways lately as I was hoping to win some gift card money. It takes time tough, but I am glad I won one so I can keep buying some of the Amazon only books. It was a busy week and I am a bit surprised by how many books i read this month.

    • It really was a great reading month. The time change always messes up my sleep pattern and I hope they eventually skip the change altogether.

  4. I’m sorry to hear about your headache – I hope that you manage to shed the aftermath very soon. That thick-headed, muzzy feeling can last for several days, can’t it? You did well during October with your reading…

I loved Jumanji – the humour is delightful. I hope the coming week is a better one, Lola.

    • That thick-headed muzzy feeling stayed around for a few days before I fully managed to get rid of it. At least I had a great reading month.

Jumanji was so fun, the humor is great indeed.

Sometimes those time changes can be pretty brutal, so I totally feel your pain. My goodness, have you been able to see a doctor about your headaches? I’m so sorry that you’ve been so uncomfortable. I liked The Magicians when it first started, but ended up losing interest. I’ve been watching The Hallmark Channel, and also lots of spy and action films. Kudos on getting so much read. October, I definitely fell behind with my reading goals. Feel better soon and hugs…RO

    • The time changes always mix up my pattern for a few days. I did see a doctor about my headaches a while ago and there isn’t much they can do as it’s tension headaches according to them. They did improve a bit, but I still get them regularly.

Good to know I am not the only who lost interest The Magicians, it’s too bad as the start was good. I hope those spy and action film you are watching are good.
