sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

What a weird week this was. A lot of things happened and it wasn’t as productive as I would’ve liked, but I still got most of my work for this week done. On Tuesday evening I got a massive headache and I didn’t do much work until it finally went away the next evening. I was ready to start a good day of work on Thursday, but when I started up my computer it turned out internet was down and it stayed down for the whole day. I did do a bit of cleaning and got some extra reading and gaming in, so it was still a good day. But what a bad timing to have the internet be down after I already had a slower day of work because of my headache.

I did still got some hours of assistant work done, although a bit less than I would’ve liked. And I hate that feeling of having to catch up on all the e-mails and such when you haven’t worked for a day.

My new blog design is almost completely finished and I hope to have it live on my blog before the end of the month. Everything looks so awesome and I am so happy with how all the new graphics are turning out.

What did I read this week?

Beneath the MistsShoot the Messenger

Beneath the Mists was a 3 star read. The world building is amazing, but the story was slow paced and failed to fully pull me in. The characters were interesting, but I felt we didn’t get to know them as well as I would’ve liked. Shoot the Messenger was really god. Lost of twists and the story took directions I hand’t expected. It was very well written.

What did I cook for dinner this week?

Review: The Secret Heir by Siobhan Davis
Review: Upstaged by Teyla Branton

What to expect next week on the blog:

Full Moons, Dunes and MacaroonsRadiant LightBroken WideDragonsteelDragonLustTempted by demonsOn Davis Row

As last week I only got one new book, I just knew this week would be the opposite and that turned out to be the case indeed. I got a bunch of new books this week. Radiant Light, Broken Wide and Tempted by Demons I got for review. All series I already started or authors I already know, I am excited for all of these. Full Moons, Dunes and Macaroons is book 5 in a series I am really enjoying so far, so I bought this one as soon as it released. On Davis Row was discounted to 99 cents and I bought a copy as it sounded goo. Dragonsteel and Dragonlust I won in a giveaway, yay! I had this series on my wishlist already, so it was great to win them.

What’s something unexpected that happened during your week?

  1. I’ve been dealing with headaches and internet problems too, so I know how you feel :-/ I didn’t realize you were changing your blog design though??? I’m looking forward to your review of Beneath the Mists, even though that’s a bummer it wasn’t quite as good as you wanted it to be. Congrats on winning some books in a giveaway!

    • It really was one of those week were everything hit in the same week. yes I think I announced it in my goal post for this year? I am changing my graphics and am getting a new logo instead of the pony. And the new design is almost ready now πŸ™‚

My review for Beneath the Mists got way too long. It had so much potential and the world building was totally amazing and I feel so sad the story and characters didn’t pull me in as much.

  2. Bummer about first the headache and then the internet trouble. We had a bad storm that took our internet offline for several hours last week, but at least it wasn’t the whole day.
Looking forward to seeing the big new site design unveiling.

Haha! One week low and the next high with the books. I had that happen this week. I put in to review four audio books back in January and February and never heard back so I thought I wasn’t going to get them and then they all showed up this week. Oh well, they do look good.

    Have a great week, Lola!

    • It was bad timing to have both the headache and internet troubles in the same week. Luckily we rarely have internet troubles ever, but it sure was difficult being without internet for the whole day.

Hopefully in a week or maybe two I can reveal the new design. I can’t wait to show of the design.

I always seem to follow up a low book week with one with a lot of books. Thta’s great you still got accepted for those audio’s, but a bit challenging on your review schedule when they all show up at once suddenly.

  3. Headaches are the worst πŸ™ especially long ones like that.

I look forward to seeing your new blog design (though I’ll miss this one!) Enjoy your new reads!

    • Headaches really are the worst. Luckily I normally don’t have as many heavy headaches like that anymore. This one really was a bad one.

The general design will probably stay the same and the font for the graphics is the same as I currently use, but it will have a new logo instead of the pony. I’ll miss this one too, but I am really happy with the new design so far, so that helps me feel more excited than sad.

  4. So sorry to hear about your headache – it’s the one thing that has improved since I’ve become older – I don’t get so many terrible headaches any more! Hoping that you manage to catch up with your work during the coming week:)

    • I have gotten fewer headaches lately, so I think I am on the right track, but the one last week was a really bad one. Good to know your headaches have gotten less as you’ve gotten older.

  5. Ugh! That is so stressful but at least you got to spend a day doing stuff you enjoy. Maybe the universe though you needed a break! πŸ™‚
I am looking forward to seeing your blog design πŸ˜‰ I can’t wait to see it all put together. I am loving also how it is turning out.
Shoot the Messenger is on my KU wish list. I am really enjoying reverse harem and have been trying to find as many as I can. The covers for some of them are amazing.

I hope this week is headache free! Have a wonderful week, Lola! Happy Reading! πŸ™‚

    • I got to try out a new game that I bought, but hadn’t played yet, so that was fun. Catching up afterwards on work was a bit stressful tough.

I get more excited about the new design the more pieces I see. I can’t wait to upload it everywhere and see it all come together. You really are doing an awesome job with the design πŸ™‚

Let me know if you need some Reverse Harem recommendations. I read a bunch of books in the genre already. I noticed you finished that dragon reverse harem book last week. Glad to hear you enjoyed it!

  6. Ugh. I hate when headaches leave me unable to work for days, and then for that to happen to you, and then the internet goes out? That must have been so frustrating. I finished Shoot the Messenger last week. It was very well written, but I didn’t see how it could be reverse harem and I didn’t enjoy the twist at the end. Still it was so well written that I’ll be having the author on my blog this month! πŸ™‚

    • It sure was bad timing to first ave the headache and then a day without internet.

I agree with you it was very well written. I do think I see the potential for the Reverse Harem aspect, but guess we’ll see how it turns out in the next books. I also didn’t really enjoy the twist at the end, it just seems a bit too much. But the author sure knows how to write twists very well as the book surprised me a few times with the direction it took.
