sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a pretty decent week. I had a few days that felt a bit off, but also had a lot going on and it got better as the week progressed. The start of the week I was mostly busy with tours that were running, while in the later half of the week some new tour bookings came in. I already put the sign-up post live for one of the new cover reveals that were booked and hope to have a few more new sign-up posts next week. I had some tours that were running this week, so that kept me busy the first half of the week. I had two shorter tours, my first one day book blitz and my first two day book blitz, it was interesting to see how they went. And I had a one week blitz that ran till Thursday.

I have been in a big fantasy and sci-fi mood lately, which is a bit bad timing as lots of my ARC’s with upcoming release dates are contemporary romances and cozy mysteries. I did got a few of my fantasy ARC’s read though and I had a great reading streak so far this month. I had to pick up a contemporary romance ARC this week as the release day was coming up and I am really enjoying it, so maybe my mood will switch now. I also started a contemporary romance on my kobo as well.

Oh and one of my favorite authors used one of my review quotes for some promo graphics which made me really happy. It’s so awesome to see an author using a quote from your review!

I also cleaned out my for review shelf on Goodreads a bit and removed a few books I don’t think I’ll be ever reading and reviewing, so I can get a better overview of which books I still have left that I do plan to read and review. I try and do that once in a while. Every time I do this I find another few books to remove. I also found another netgalley book I don’t plan on reading anymore and submitted feedback for that. Do you ever re-assess your for review pile?

Picture of the Week

Vegetarian-Bradwurst
This is one of the recent new products I tried. It’s a vegetarian bradwurst/ sausage and it’s really good. I am glad how these vegetarian products keep getting better. I normally buy a vegetarian smoked sausage of this brand, but they only sell that during winter as traditionally in the Netherlands we eat smoked sausage in winter with “Stamppot”. So when it gets summer they suddenly stop selling that one and I had to find an alternative, I bought a spicy sausage last year (which luckily was only a little bit spicy). But then this year I couldn’t find that one either and decided to give this one a try. I really like this one and it’s nice to find another product I like.

What did I read this week?

SanctuaryTo The Teeth

Sanctuary was a great read, it’s a YA urban fantasy involving shifters. I read two short stories by this author first (Instinct in Marked of Fate Origins and Heritage which you can get for free on the author’s website) and wanted to pick up book 1 next and then realized I already had a copy and started reading it. It was exactly the type of read I was in the mood for. To The Teeth was also really good and I really enjoyed it. It’s a shorter read of around 100 pages, but the pacing was done well and it had a satisfying ending.

What did I cook for dinner this week?

This week I blogged about:

Review: Crash Land on Kurai by SJ Pajonas – 5 star read!
Review: The Return by Kelly St. Clare

  1. Glad you are staying busy! 🙂

I clean my shelves every so often. I need to do it again since I have a few netgalleys that I am not sure I will be reading 🙁 I am trying very hard to not grab stuff from there anymore. I have been struggling with ARCs lately and think I would rather just wait until they are released. Not sure what is happening to me.

I hope you have a great week, Lola! Happy Reading!!! (((hugs))) ox

    • It’s been a bit of a slower month than the past few months, but still enough things to keep me busy.

I probably have a few more review books I could remove, but I leave those for next time. I am getting better at not requesting too many book on netgalley, but I still have a lot older books.

    • I usually just go with my mood as well, it seems I actually moved back to a romance mood this wee, so that’s good timing ;).

  2. Yes – depressingly a lot of vegetarian products have chilli in them and I cannot manage it… It sounds like another successful week, Lola. I hope the weather isn’t too hot (you can send some of that heat over my way) and that you have a great week:)

    • I didn’t realize so many vegetarian products have chili in them. I have had some that were too spicy or not to my taste though. The spicy sausages were pretty good, not too spicy luckily, but only worked in certain dishes. These bradwurst type of sausages work with almost everything. They’re really good.

I wish I could send some of the heat to you, that would be nice. It’s been a bit too warm for me.

  3. I love weeks where I get crap done. I’ve been clearing out freebies on my kindle (and keeping the ones that interest me). I’ve had my kindle account since 2011 so it’s a huge task! I started at 600+ books, now I’m at 450 and I’m nowhere near done, LOL!

Anyway, glad to here the tours are coming along and those new books look yummy! Hope you enjoy them <3

    • I probably should do a freebie clean out once too, I have so many of them, lol.

I already finished one of my new books and I hope to read the others soon :).

    • Here the vegetarian section has become a lot bigger and better in recent years, for which I am really grateful :). These sausages are great!

  4. I’m not really a sausage type of person, except for breakfast sausage, which I do enjoy. I didn’t even like sausage when I did eat meat! So I would pass on the bratwurst. I’m glad you enjoyed that Complex book! I was actually supposed to participate in that set, but didn’t due to contractual issues. Many of the stories turned out good!

    • I kinda like sausage, although it does depend on the dish what i prefer to eat with it. I am glad I found these.

Ah I didn’t realize this was that set you were supposed to participate in. That’s sad it didn’t work out :(. It does sound like an interesting set-up and I really enjoyed this Complex book.

    • I can’t remember if I ever eaten a meat bradwurst before I became a vegetarian, but I do like the vegetarian version :). Sanctuary was really good and I already have the next book in the series.

  5. It sounds like another busy week for you. I have some Netgalley ARCs that I need to give feedback for too. I haven’t had the urge to read them and need to let the publishers know. I’m trying to mix up genres so I don’t get burned out but it is hard when you have back to back due dates for the same genre. I hope you have a great week!

    • I think when I lose interest in an ARC it’s probably best to just the publisher know about it. I think I got back to the romance and cozy mood this week, so hopefully I can get a few of those books read, before my mood switches again.

    • It sounds like a do more when I sum things up this way ;). It was great to see my quote used for promotion purposes by that author.

        • You’re probably right. But it does always sound like I did more when I write it all out.

And I agree that having an author post or use one of your review quotes is a big deal 🙂

    • I also have a hard time letting go, but I try and re-evaluate my review shelf now and then and remove a few of them, even if I only do a few now and then it still helps. The ones I doubt stay on the list for now and I might still remove them next time.

It was really cool to see an author use my review quote for a promotion banner 🙂

  6. Yay for the reading streak, and the good work stuff too. Congrats on having your quote used, also! I’m not a big suasage eater but vegetarian sounds worth a try.

Love that cover of Sanctuary, and glad it was a good read!

    • It’s been a good reading month so far :). It was great to see an author use a quote from my review.

The whole series has great covers and I already have book 2 in that series to read soon :).

  7. Sounded like a good productive week for you. Hopefully your reading mood will change so you can get to those other books. 🙂

I love to update my GR lists and I do turn in notes for Net Galley lists. It feels great to see those all up to date and showing what I really need to finish.

    Have a great week, Lola!

    • My reading mood did change this week and I am now in the middle of another contemporary romance and a cozy mystery :).

It’s nice to update your lists now and then and get a better overview of what you still want to read.

    • It was so awesome seeing that author use my quote :).

It sure was a lot more difficult to find good veggie meat back when I just was a vegetarian. I am glad there’s much more choice and quality now :).

  8. Isn’t it the best feeling in the world when a author quotes one of your reviews? It just gives you the best warm fuzzies ever. Especially when its an author you love and respect. I am with you on the mood reading of fantasy. I have been in the mood for it like crazy, I am even reading some of my old favorites because of it, and fantasy romance is very hard to find. hehe

    • Yes it gave me all the warm fuzzies, I was so surprised to see one of my quotes on a promotion graphic, so cool :). And it’s one of my favorite authors, so that made it even better.

I don’t think I’ve read a lot of fantasy romance, it seems a difficult genre to find. I seem to be back in the mood for reading contemporary romances and cozies this week :). But I might go back to fantasy after these books.

    • It really made me happy to see the author use a quote from my review :). It’s great the vegetarian meats are getting better tasting.

  9. I follow a meatless “butcher” from the Netherlands on Twitter and it looks like you have a lot if people working in good vegan things there. Most everything like meatless hotdogs and sausages here in the US are horrible. I would give my right arm for a decent vegan hotdog. I have been in a Sci-fi mood myself, lately. I hope you are having a wonderful week. 🙂

    • Is it by any chance “de vegetarische slager” that you follow? I like their sausage breads! They are so good!

We really have a good assortment of vegetarian and vegan products in stores nowadays here :). There is quite some variety and good quality. It really changed a lot in the last few years.

  10. Sorry about your mood not matching your review copies. I’m kind of having the same problem. I’m in the mood for urban fantasy, but I realized the other day that so few of my review copies are urban. How is that even possible? They’re all like high fantasy or sci-fi or something. I don’t know. Anyway, glad you’re enjoying your current read, and maybe your mood will change 🙂

That’s awesome that an author is using your review quote!

    • Yes that’s exactly the problem, I have very little sci-fi and fantasy review books(or the ones I have aren’t quite what I am in the mood for and the rest I already read) and I am not even sure how that happened. I think my mood is slowly changing, but now I am at that stage where almost everything sounds good, which doesn’t help either.

It was amazing seeing that author use my review quote 🙂

    • It was so awesome to see an author use my quote for promotion purposes :). I think this is probably the first time I’ve seen an author use a quote from my review for a graphic.
