sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was another good week. There are three tours I organized that are currently running and three cover reveals took place this week. I’ve been working on some new tours that were booked at the end of the discount action last month and some cover reveals as well. A few new sign-up posts went live this week and I still have a bunch of sign-up posts to put live next week as well. So that has been keeping me busy :).

On Saturday morning we had a lunch to celebrate my grandma’s birthday. We got her some chocolates as birthday present. I ate a good piece of cheesecake at the restaurant we were at and we chatted with the people there.

Oh and an update on the computer troubles I had the last few weeks. I had hoped I had resolved what was wrong with it last week, but this week my computer has been acting up again this week and crashed a few times. Not as bad yet as it only crashed a few times, but still annoying. So I am still not sure if things got resolved or not.

April Reading Stats

April is now over, so it’s time for my reading stats of the previous month. I didn’t read as much this month as in previous months, but I did read some good books. Below are some of my reading stats from March.

  • Amount of books read: 8 (3 less than in March)
  • Favorite book: Scandal by Athena Grayson
  • Most read genres: Urban Fantasy (4 books)
  • Most read age category: Adult (3 Adult books, 2 YA books, 2 NA books and 1 MG)
  • Authors I read most books from: Emma L Adams and Dale Ivan Smith (I read 2 books by both)
  • New to me authors: 3; Athena Grayson, Dale Ivan Smith and Kiera Stewart

A few more stats. This month I read 7 self published books and 1 from publishers (1 from Harper Collins). I read 4 different genres this month, 4 Urban Fantasy books, two Science Fiction books, 1 Cozy Mystery and 1 Contemporary. 7 of the books were full length books and 1 novella. I read 5 books that got a 4 star and 3 books that got a 3 stars. 6 of the books I read where books I received for review and 2 were books that I bought.
7 of the books I read where read on my ipad and 1 on my Kobo. I read 7 books written in 1st point of view and 1 in third person point of view. I read 4 books that took place in the US, one that took place on another planet (Scandal by Athena Grayson) and 3 in the UK.
I only read 1 book that was a standalone, namely The Summer of Bad Ideas. 3 books were series starters, I didn’t read any series enders, I read two books that were the sixth book in a series. 5 of the books I read had a human as main character. 3 book had a non-human character, namely two books with an Empowered as main character (human with superpowers) and 1 book with a dragon shifter. 1 of the books I read had multiple point of views (both males and females), 6 books had a female main character and one book has a male main character.

Picture of the Week

Schuddebuikjes
This is something for on your bread that I’ve been eating a lot recently. It’s called “Schudde buikjes” or literally translated shakey bellies. They are basically tiny cookies for on your bread and they taste great. These are “Speculaas” flavored, which is a spices mix common int he Netherlands which consist of cinnamon and some other spices. They also have another flavor, which is vanilla and chocolate cookies. What do you like to eat on your bread?

What did I read this week?

Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus: AlliesA Brit UnexpectedThe Magnate's Marriage Merger

Allies was really good! It was such a fun read and I am reading book 4 now. Both A Brit Unexpected and the Magnate’s Marriage Merger got a 3 star. They were good reads, but just didn’t fully grab me. A Brit Unexpected didn’t pull me in as much as I had hoped, but it was a fun read and well written. The Magnate’s Marriage Merger was good, but I had some issues with the romance and something that happened in the story.

What did I cook for dinner this week?

This week I blogged about:

Review: Scandal by Athena Grayson
Review: The Summer of Bad Ideas by Kiera Stewart
Review: Faerie Hunt by Emma L Adams
My To-Be Read List #33: poll

What to expect next week on the blog:

  1. Nuts! I was hoping your computer troubles would be over especially with all this wonderful work you are getting done. Neat that you got to celebrate your grandmother’s birthday. Your bread cookies are neat. My favorite thing on bread is crunchy peanut butter or sandwich spreads.

Well, you did get a variety and wow, UF beat out cozy mysteries for your top genre. Good amount of new authors and series. Nice seeing that you’re getting to your review books, too. Thanks for sharing your stats.

Ha, you did good. No new haul books this week so you’ll get a caught up on your pile. I did okay and only picked up two and they are summer releases so plenty of time. 🙂 Neat to see you enjoying your Love Lies and Hocus Pocus series.

    Have a great week, Lola!

    • I had hoped so too :(. But sadly my computer is still acting up, less than before though. So Maybe I did fix something, just not everything.

I also like crunchy peanut butter on bread, especially with banana on top and then warmed a bit, yum!

I read a lot of UF last month, this month as well so far. I am glad I am gettign a nice chunk of review books read this year :).

I finished book 4 in the Hocus Pocus series this week, so now I have to wait again for the next book.

  2. That’s annoying that your computer crashed again, it does sound like the problems aren’t fully resolved. I hope you get to the bottom of it, or else that your computer starts co-operating again with you! Nice stats, it’s fun to see the breakdown of different genres, settings and the format you read the books in.
Yum to the cheesecake! And as I’m always watching my weight, sadly I don’t get to add too much to my bread!

    • I still have a few things to try for the computer troubles, just haven’t made the time to do them yet.

The cheesecake was good. There aren’t as many restaurants here that serve it, so it was nice to see it on the menu there.

  3. I’m quite traditional with my sandwiches…my favourite thing is cheese. I also use sandwich spreads or tuna. Nice mixture of genres in your reading challenges too!

    • We have a lot of things to eat on your bread here, so I wanted to share one of the less common things :). I really liked these, it really tastes like you’re easting cookies on your bread :).

  4. Glad it was a good week! And happy birthday to your grandma. 🙂

I would try those little cookie things, they look kinda good. I usually don’t put a lot on bread other tha butter or occasionally peanut butter (that more on muffins actually), but those look worth a try! Although if it’s a sandwich I use more things. I like seeing the products you guys have over there that we don’t here. 🙂

  5. Happy birthday to your grandma! Sorry about your computer though :-/ Do you have everything backed up on a separate hard drive or online or something just in case? Because when my laptop started acting up last year, I immediately backed up everything once I got it working, and then the next day it broke completely and if I hadn’t had everything backed up the day before, I would’ve been a mess. So just a reminder in case you didn’t think of it.

Little cookies for you bread. I don’t think we have anything like that in the US. I don’t think I’ve never eaten anything on bread other than butter or oil with herbs (or, like sandwiches or french toast, but that’s a whole ‘nother kinda thing since those are just meals).

Glad to see you’re still enjoying the Hocus Pocus series! And yay, no new books feels kinda good sometimes, right? We’re all so weird, we get excited when we get new books, and we get excited when we don’t lol.

    • Yes I do have a back-up :). I always do regular back-ups as you never know what will happen. I just wish I could figure out what was wrong with my computer as some days it works perfectly and then bam it crashes twice in a day.

Here in the Netherlands bread with something on it, is a pretty common lunch here. So we have tons of options to eat on bread. I think a year or more ago or so I shared a lot of pictures of things we ate on our bread here in my Sunday posts. I could probably do a whole post about that.

It was nice to get no new books as I suddenly am feeling a bit overwhelmed, so a week with no new books just felt like what I needed. I did pick up a few cozie freebies though. I was just thinking the same, when I typed that sentence in my post I was like I am always happy when I get books, but when I don’t get books I am happy to. So weird.

  6. You went on a little UF kick in April! I think the month before that was all cozy mysteries practically. 🙂 And I find the whole concept of putting things like that on your bread to be interesting. We don’t have stuff like that here in the States. It’s mostly spreads here. Have great week!!

    • I feel like I am coming slowly to an end to my UF mood though, I am in the mood for cozies again now. Although I still have some UF on my reading list for this month as well.

It’s too bad you don’t have stuff like that in the US, it is always interesting to see the differences between countries. Here we have such a big variety of things to eat on your bread. we also have a lot of spreads, but also a lot of sweet things like this.

  7. Sorry to hear that your computer is acting up again – that’s the main cloud on an otherwise cleary blue sky, given how well your blog tours are going and the quality of your April reads. I hope you have an equally successful May – minus the computer glitches.

    • Yes things have been going great lately, I just wish I could resolve my computer troubles as well. I hope May is a good month too 🙂
