sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

Another very busy week. The author I do assistant work for has had more hours of work for me this month, so I’ve been spending quite some time on that. I also had two new review opportunities go live on Lola’s Blog Tours this week and I sent out three media kits for two tours and a cover reveal next week. My review opportunity discount still runs till the end of the month, but so far I am already calling it a success as I sold quite some review opportunities this month. I am really happy with how it went and I am planning to do discounts more often.

Monday and Tuesday we got woken by some construction noises somewhere else in the building. I did manage to go back to sleep, but didn’t sleep too well with the disruption. Later that week I had a weird nightmare about an alligator that was in a two floor house and tried to eat everyone, I got to the top floor, but the alligator could walk on the stairs, so it just followed me up there. Glad I could wake myself from the dream before it ate me. Once I was awake I could smile about the ridiculous plot of that dream, I mean how did that alligator got up those stars? But it was a scary one while I was dreaming.

My sister came to visit on Monday. We had fun catching up, talking about books and our lives and she told us about a recent vacation she had been on and she bought me a bookmark. She also brought us some “Kruidnootjes” with salted caramel flavored white chocolate around it, it was really good! “Kruidnootjes” are small round cookies flavored with a spices mixture mainly consisting of cinnamon, that we eat in the Netherlands during this time of the year. In the past few years there have been some new flavors of them and so far I approve of the added variety. And the ones my sister brought were some of the best I’ve eaten so far.

Picture of the Week

No picture of the week this week.

What did I read this week?

Sweet Little Lies

I finished a book this week! I read Sweet Little Lies, which was a good one, and already reviewed it on the blog as well. And I already have the second book, so planning to start that soon. I probably have finished my two current reads by Sunday, but as I didn’t finish them before Sunday they don’t count here.

What did I cook for dinner this week?

This week I blogged about:

Review: Betrayals by Kelley Armstrong
Review: Bloodless by Toni Centanni
Lola’s Ramblings: Reviewing Book Series
Review: Sweet Little Lies by Jill Shalvis

What to expect next week on the blog:

– Review: The Jakkattu Vector by P.K. Tyler – blog tour stop
– Review: Teach Your Heart by Tracey Alvarez – blog tour stop
– Lola’s Ramblings: What do you like to see in author newsletters?
– My To-Be Read List #28: poll
I coincidentally ended up with two tour stops in one week, both are reviews (I still have to write them both at this point), but have an excerpt and a giveaway too, which should be fun.

  1. I picked up some nice urban fantasy freebies yesterday which will be on my STS next week I think. It’s always good to grab a nice treat! Alligators climbing up the stairs is a bit unsettling-I seem to dream a lot about sharks that can do weird stuff. If you start having dreams about sharks flying helicopter gunships then you have entered my world!

    • I hope there are some good ones among the freebies you picked up! I dream a lot about weird stuff as well, but thought a stairs climbing alligator was note worthy ;). I don’t think I’ve had a lot of shark dreams so far, sharks flying helicopter gunships definitely does sound weird and kinda comical as well when I try to imagine how that would look.

  2. Yay for good busy 🙂 But ugh, I know far too well how frustrating construction noises are -_- I once had a nightmare about polar bears killing everyone. Really random lol, but really terrifying while it was happening! So I understand the nightmare feeling too lol.

Oh, I tried the stroopwafels! (Did I get that right? I wrote it from memory.) I don’t know what normal ones are like, but these were soft and were little cookies with two little waffle things with some filling in the middle that was cinnamon, vanilla, and caramel flavored. They were good! I’d definitely buy them again.

We weren’t quite the same with our reading again since, but that’s because you were busy with stuff and I was trying to take it easy as much as I could and used my down time to read.

Anyway, I’m glad you had a pretty good week, and it looks like you got a great book haul 🙂

    • It has been nice to have a few busy weeks in a row. And construction noises really are annoying, but I think they are done for now as we haven’t heard much the rest of the week. I thought it was a bit of an unusual nightmare, so I decided to share. Those nightmares sound so weird when you’re awake and talking about them, but when you’re in that dream it’s frightening.

Yay glad to hear you tried the stroopwafels and you liked them! Here they usually are a bit larger, say a bit larger than the size of your hand, but they also sell mini stroopwafels, which sounds like the ones you had. We call the filling stroop, hence the name stroofwafels.

I hope I can fit in a bit more reading time this week, although I didn’t do too badly as I did finish The jakkattu Vector and Teach Your Herat by now, so that’s already two books finished for next week, lol.

        • The mini and the normal sized ones do taste the same, so it doesn’t really mater for the taste which ones you have. The dutch word is basically the word stroop (the filling) and then wafel (waffle, the outside parts). So a waffle with stroop filling, which describes exactly what it is.

They are normally flavored like that, I have seen super large sized stroopwafels (like double the size of normal ones. Or instead of waffle shaped the waffles are broken into pieces (or maybe they are the parts they couldn’t use for the waffles, who knows) and sold in bags like that. Those are really good too, you can also get those bags with stroop added.
Then they have a variety in stores with chocolate around them, but I think that’s about it. Usually they are just the plain ones like the ones you have, either eaten cold or warmed up.

    • It’s been great to have a lot of work, but yes the other stuff does get backed up sometimes now. I think I’ll have a few more busy weeks coming on, but I don’t mind too much. Just hope I can keep up with the blogging as well.

    • Nice to hear you had a short work week and got to spend time with family and friends. I hope you got some of those reviews written!

  3. The author has been keeping you very busy, which is a good thing and a not so good thing when you have other stuff to do. I didn’t read a lot this week but hoping to finish my book today. I need to update My TBR List review.

The Kruidnootjes sound really good, I love cinnamon flavored stuff, almost makes me think of gingerbread cookies which are one of my favorite cookies to eat this time of year.

I hate construction noise, I always get woken up by the garbage truck, they are always so loud in the morning

I hope you have a great week, Lola! Happy Reading! ox

    • It’s been good to be so busy, but it does mean less time for reading and blogging.

I think you would like Kruidnootjes then :). If shipping wasn’t so pricey I would send you some. Maybe another year when I can afford to pay the shipping.

When you are sleeping some noises are even more annoying than normal. I have heard the garbage truck a few times here as well, but usually sleep through that.

  4. Busy, busy, this week. That’s great. Neat that you had a nice visit with your sister and she brought you a new flavor of cookie to try.

It’s been a busy week for me, too, so I fell behind on reading, but hope to catch up this next week, maybe.

    Have a good week, Lola!

    • It was fun to have my sister visit and the cookies she brought were really good. I did do a bit better on reading this week and managed to finish 4 books.

  5. Glad it was a good week, and the discount drummed up more business. Sorry to hear about the construction noises, how irritating. And alligator dreams! Isn’t it funny how weird dreams can be lol? I’ve had some too where I’ve woken up and been glad I did before something bad happened!

Kruidnootjes sound great. Cookies and spices sound like a pretty good combo, I would definitely try those especially the cinnamon ones.

I love that cover of The Retreat!

    • Sadly it happens here quite frequently they are having construction in one house or another, but luckily it was only two days this time.

And yes it always amazes me how weird dreams are. I can usually wake myself up out of very bad dreams, but only remember to do so right before something really bad happens.

  6. I had a dream last night I was doing laundry at the laundromat with my husband and I couldn’t figure out why we were there because we have a washing machine at home! Yeah. Exciting, right? Lol. I’m so glad you got a lot more review opportunities this month! Having regular sales can get your new clients, so I’m glad you did that. I’m sure it’ll open up new doors for you.

Hope you have a great week!

    • Dreams are so weird sometimes! It was nice to organize some more review opportunities this month, I definitely plan on doing sales more often and see how it goes.

    • It really was a scary dream and I am glad I was able to wake myself in time.

I wish they wouldn’t do construction noises so early in the morning, or at least it’s early for me.

  7. You had another busy week but it’s good you spent time with family. That is a crazy dream and I’ve had some recently too. It’s strange how our mind works while we are sleeping lol. I just bought Sweet Little Lies and I can’t wait to read it. It’s set in San Francisco which is close to wear I grew up so it’s always nice to read a book with a city I am familiar with. I hope you have a great week!
Kathy recently posted…Weekly Wrap Up #110My Profile

    • It sure surprised me always how weird our minds work when sleeping, I’ve had my fair share of weird dreams. I hope you’ll enjoy Sweet Little Lies! That’s fun it takes place close to where you live.

    • It really was a frightening dream. I just announced the next discount, so I hope that will keep me busy for the next few months :).

  8. oh construction noises are never fun. When I was still in Utah, this past year my apartment complex had construction all year, and I slept during the day because I was a baker then. And yeah no fun and even if you aren’t trying to sleep its super distracting and annoying to deal with. Glad you liked Sweet Little Lies though.

    • I usually sleep in till an hour or eleven in the morning, so when they start construction on half past eight it really messes up my sleep. We have lots of people going and coming here, and that often brings some construction noises with it.
