sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a good week, lots of work, but some fun things as well. We had a lot of warm weather this week, but it seems I’ve gotten a bit more used to it by now. This was a productive week and quite busy too. Two new sign-ups post went live this week and I’ve been working on some marketing assistant work as well. On Thursday we visited the zoo, there’s this zoo not too far away from where we live that we usually visit once a year. We had a lot of fun at the zoo, the weather was warm and no rain, but it wasn’t too warm luckily. We had a fun day watching the animals and we even got to see some young animals, which was great!

Daniela from the blog Daniela’s Ark interviewed me! I love her interviews as she really tailors the questions for each blogger and I had a lot of fun answering her questions. If you want to learn more about me, feel free to check out the interview! I talk about my favourite games, my planning habits and more!

We finished watching star trek deep space 9, we really enjoyed the series. The ending was a tad rushed, but overall it wrapped most things up nicely. The ending was both heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time. It left things a bit too open for my taste, but it fit the series. It’s been amazing following these characters for so long and seeing them change and develop. I felt it was a bit more focused on character relationships than star trek voyager, but I really liked that. We’re now watching season 2 of star wars rebels. We also watched the Madagascar movies recently, which where a lot of fun.

Starting next week I’ll be doing Lola’s Kitchen posts only once every two weeks instead of every week. When I am more busy with work I have less time to make new things and often prefer to make dishes I already know, so less inspiration for new posts. So from now on I am going to be doing that once every two weeks as I think that will work better. So the feature is not going away, I am enjoy making those posts too much for that, it just will be less frequent.

Picture of the Week

I won an European only giveaway hosted by the awesome Lexie at Unconventional Book Views. And I won a copy of Don’t Tempt Me by Lori Foster! I have heard a lot of good things about this author, but haven’t read any of her books so far, so I am really curious about this book. It’s so cool Lexie got books at BEA to give away. It even says it’s an arc, a physical arc. For some reason that made me really giddy as I never got a physical arc before. Oh and it’s signed. And how awesome is that bookmark of her blog she included?

What did I cook for dinner this week?

Esther the Wonder Pig Esther the Wonder Pig: Changing the World One Heart at a Time
by Steve Jenkins, Derek Walter and Caprice Crane

Format: hardcopy
Source: my boyfriend bought it for me
You can find Esther the Wonder Pig on Goodreads

Blurb:
Unlikely pig owners Steve and Derek got a whole lot more than they bargained for when the designer micro piglet they adopted turned out to be a full-sized 600-pound sow! In the bestselling tradition of pet memoirs such as Oogy, Dewey, and Giant George, the story of ESTHER THE WONDER PIG shows how families really do come in all shapes and sizes.

In the summer of 2012, Steve Jenkins was contacted by an old friend about adopting a micro piglet. Though he knew his partner Derek wouldn’t be enthusiastic, he agreed to take the adorable little pig anyway, thinking he could care for her himself. Little did he know, that decision would change his and Derek’s lives forever. It turned out there was nothing “micro” about Esther, and Steve and Derek had actually signed on to raise a full-sized commercial pig. Within three years, Tiny Esther grew to a whopping 600 pounds. After some real growing pains and a lot of pig-sized messes, it became clear that Esther needed much more space, so Steve and Derek made another life-changing decision: they bought a farm and opened the Happily Ever Esther Farm Sanctuary, where they could care for Esther and other animals in need. Funny, heartwarming, and utterly charming, ESTHER THE WONDER PIG follows Steve and Derek’s adventure–from reluctant pig parents to farm-owning advocates for animals.

A while ago I found Esther the Wonder Pig on facebook and I just love seeing this adorable pig on my facebook timeline every day. I almost finished reading this book already!

A desperate gamble…

Sanah would do anything to protect her little sister, even if it means taking refuge with ruthless pirates. But the psychically Talented pirates terrorizing Commonwealth space are not quite the monsters she has been led to believe. When Sanah’s empathic gift shows her the truth behind the stories, she is no longer certain who the villains are in her world.

A race on the verge of extinction…

Dem’s only goal is to protect his people, especially since a deadly bio-weapon decimated their population. Only a handful of women survived, and every day is a fight to rebuild. With Sanah’s empathy and her sister’s rare ability to heal, they could be the salvation Dem and his people have been looking for.

A dangerous secret that could destroy everything…

But how can Sanah trust Dem with her life? Especially when he’d kill her if he knew the truth.

Pirate Bound is a short prequel novel to the Telepathic Space Pirates series. It is a standalone story within the series.

This book grabbed my attention with the cover and the blurb sold me on this one. I mean telepathic space pirates? That sounds fun! And I want to read more sci-fi romance, so this seemed like a good place to start.

    • I know the feeling, there are always so many books I want to read and series I want to watch. I am glad to hear your reading slump is over!

  1. Love it when you have a full week of work. Oh fun to get out to the zoo.

That is terrific that you won a signed physical copy. Sometimes the arcs aren’t much different than the physical copy.
    Ah cute pig book. 🙂

Love your cooking posts no matter if you have to go to every other.

    Have a good week, Lola!

Sorry to comment bomb you all at once. I didn’t get the newsletter reminders again for the posts which is what I rely on to remind me to visit all my favorite blogs. Gmail is so wonky at times

    • Yes it was a nice full week with work and the zoo visit.

Yes it was so awesome to win a signed physical copy. The pig book is a good one so far, almost finished it.

Thanks! I am glad to hear you enjoy my cooking posts I am sad I have to do them every other week now, but I don’t want to stress out about it and I think this will work better for now.

I wonder what went wrong, did the e-mails land in your spam? And yes gmail can be wonky sometimes. But I am glad to hear I am on your favorite blog list 😉

  2. Ahhhhhhh you just reminded me that I completely forgot about Star Wars Rebels! I haven’t been keeping up with anything online lately, so it just slipped my mind. I must be like a million episodes behind. I also have the book about Kanan and Hera that’s like background info or what it’s based on or something that I still haven’t read. I really only bought it because I ship Kanan and Hera and wanted to know more about them lol.

Yay the zoo sounds fun! I haven’t been to the zoo in so many years. I did work as a camp counselor at the zoo once in high school though. It was cool because I got to see the animals a lot and even got to feed giraffes and rhinos.

I loved your interview with Daniela! I’m glad she interviewed you 🙂 And congrats on winning the giveaway! It would be cool to actually have a physical ARC. I have one signed book that I won a giveaway (not an ARC), and even that was exciting to me, so I totally get it! And that pig’s nose is just so PINK! Lol. Enjoy your books 🙂

    • We watched season 1 and then watched some other series and only now getting back to Rebels. I don’t even know how far behind we still are, but we’re making good progress with season 2, about halfway through now.

I also have that book! I haven’t read it yet though, maybe we can do a buddy read once? Hera is one of my favourite characters, so I am curious about that book. I think it’s their backstory and how Kanan and Hera met.
Have you seen The Clone Wars series? That’s really good too, I think I enjoyed it even more than Rebels so far. And the refer a lot to the clone wars in Rebels and some characters form that series make a reappearance in Rebels, which is fun.

I really enjoy visiting the zoo, so we try and go there once every year. That sounds fun you worked as a camp counselor at the zoo. I really like seeing all the different animals. And this zoo we visit they put a lot of effort in the cages and enclosures, the animals have a lot of space. The giraffe cage got renovated years ago and it’s really cool now. They also have a whole water based area which is neat.

I really enjoyed the interview, Daniela really knows how to ask interesting question. It’s so cool to have won a physical arc! I was really excited to win that giveaway.
I am almost finished with the Esther the Wonder Pig book. It’s a hardcover and if you remove the cover the hardcopy is bright pink underneath.

      • Oh that’s funny that you have the Star Wars book too! Yeah, maybe we could do a buddy read or something one day 🙂 Then again, we’re both mood readers, so not sure how well that’ll work lol.

And in response to your questions on my comment on Daniela’s interview, I’m an INFJ in the Meyer-Briggs thing. I imagine you must also be an I and a J, but I don’t know about the other two. I’ve actually taken a bunch of random tests, but that’s what I’ve gotten on every single one except one really weird one. So really, just try any random one lol. They can always be wrong, but you’ll know if it’s right once you read about the results. Or you could read about what the different letters mean (http://www.humanmetrics.com/personality/type – that’s a good basic explanation), between and figure it out without a test. If you enjoyed that psych class, you might find interesting. If not, I swear I’m pressuring you to sit and read about it lol. I just happen to find it interesting, so I figured you might too.
Kristen @ Metaphors and Moonlight recently posted…Book Review: House of Judges (House of Royals Book 4) by Keary TaylorMy Profile

        • I know buddy reading with mood readers doesn’t quite work well, hence why I rarely do them. But maybe if it happens we’re both wanting to read it at the same time, lol.

I did the test on the site you linked to and got INTJ. Funny how you said you knew the I and the J certain as those are the two where I have a distinct preference while the others are both a slight preference.

And the description of this personality type is pretty spot on indeed. Like with how INTJ’s know what they know and what they don’t. One the other hand I am pretty bad at gauging what other do and don’t know. And they mention perfectionism and that’s definitely one of those characteristics I have a bit too much of at times as it can definitely be a flaw as well. And the fact that they can be managers if they actually market themselves, which is the thing I struggle most with with my business, marketing myself.
I do have a bit of the interest in other people the INFJ personality type mentions. I just don’t actively do anything with it.

And no worries you didn’t pressure me and I am interested in this as well. I really was curious to know and do the test again as I had forgotten what I had gotten last time. Introvert is something I get in every personality test, so I was pretty sure about that one. In my psychology courses another personality test was more popular so we heard most about that one.

          • Cool, so we do have quite a bit in common in our personality types 🙂 The J was easy to figure out since J means you like scheduling and planning and whatnot in your life, which we’ve talked about lol. And from the things you’ve said on your blog, I knew you were an introvert too, though that one isn’t easy to tell for every person since being an introvert isn’t the same as being shy, it’s just about whether you draw energy from being around people or from being alone, you know? I’m sure lots of people think I’m an extrovert because I’m fairly outgoing, but nope, I’m an introvert because I definitely need my alone time to recharge. Anyway, if you were moderate on the F/T trait, it probably makes sense that you share some of the INFJ stuff like the interest in other people 🙂 And I’m also a perfectionist, though I guess that probably shows on both our blogs lol.

Do you remember what the test was that you learned about in your course? I really don’t know anything about any other tests.
Kristen @ Metaphors and Moonlight recently posted…Book Review: House of Judges (House of Royals Book 4) by Keary TaylorMy Profile

            • Yes being an introvert isn’t the same as being shy (although I used to be shy as well when I was younger) and I can actually talk a lot when I am around some people, but being around people tires me out. I really need time to recharge afterwards. My sister is the opposite and gets her energy from being around people.
It’s kinda interesting to think about how some of our personality traits show up on our blogs as well.

The personality test that was most common to hear about in psychology is the NEO PI-R test (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revised_NEO_Personality_Inventory). During the personality course we heard about some other tests as well, but the NEO test came back in some other courses as well.

              • Yeah, you and your sister are perfect examples. I didn’t actually know about the Meyer-Briggs stuff when I was in college, but I realize now how the way me and my roommates were was also a perfect example. Me and one of them were often holing up in our rooms with the door shut, needing to be alone, not wanting to come out sometimes when people were over because we were in one of our introverting moods, but the other one had her bedroom door open all the time and was always hanging out in the livingroom and trying to convince us to come sit out there and do our homework out there. It’s funny though because before I discovered the actual difference between introverts and extroverts, I thought I was just weird for needing to recharge like that. Like, I didn’t understand why that happened to me, you know? Why I would get so exhausted from just being around people. But now it makes sense!

I just took the test at the link you gave, and it didn’t seem to be as accurate for me :-/ It said I’m an extrovert lol. Still interesting though!
Kristen @ Metaphors and Moonlight recently posted…Book Review: House of Judges (House of Royals Book 4) by Keary TaylorMy Profile

                • My sister and I are similar on some things, but also very different in our personalities. The difference between introvert and extrovert is really obvious between us. And she’s not a planner at all.
I’ve had the same happen, where I thought things I did where weird, but later realized it wasn’t and I just had a different personality than most of my family members.

If I remember correctly the full NEO test is quite long, so you might have to take the whole test before it gets accurate. I am not sure if you can find that one online.

  3. It’s great that you are busy at work and cutting down on other things makes sense. I’m glad you are still keeping the recipes though (just less often) as I always enjoy reading them and have tried a few too! I love visiting the zoo, it’s such a fun day out. And yay for winning Lexie’s giveaway, I love that she included a bookmark too! Hope you enjoy all your new reads.

    • Yes it’s definitely good to be busy at work and I hope it continues. And it just made sense to cut down on the Lola’s Kitchen posts as I knew it was going to stress me out if I kept pushing myself to have a post every week. I am glad to hear you enjoy the posts and tried a few of them! It’s great to hear that as sometimes I wonder how many people enjoy them as it’s not a bookish post.
We try and visit the zoo every year as we really enjoy going there. There’s always so much to see and I like seeing all the animals. It was a fun surprise to see Lexie also included a bookmark!

  4. I have not been to the zoo yet this year and I want to go with the kids. The zoo close to us is a nice size and fun for the kids to run around and see all the animals.

I have been busy too designing stuff for someone 😉

Love the interview! She really did a good job even with mine I enjoyed it very much. It was fun to do 🙂

I had that with my App Reviews, It was just a lot to make them every week but I did love doing them, I want to do it again just need a new way to set it up because they take a lot of time to do.

I hope you have a great week, Lola! Happy Reading!

    • I hope you get to go to the zoo this year with your kids! I always enjoy visiting the zoo and see all the animals. The zoo we went to is pretty large, but it’s a great zoo and we enjoy visiting it. After our visit we looked at the map and realized there was a part we still haven’t seen in all these years, lol.

Sorry for keeping you busy with all the design stuff ;). I really appreciate you designing all these things for me. You’re the best!

I agree she really does an amazing job with these interviews and I always enjoy reading them. And it was fun to get interviewed as well.

The Lola’s Kitchen posts take a lot of time, first I have to make the recipe, then tweak it to my taste if necessary, then I have to make the dish another time and take picture. Then write up the recipe post, upload the picture, format the post. It’s a lot of time and I just can’t manage to do that every week. I am sad I have to do them less often, but I think it will be better for now, so I don’t stress about it.
I enjoyed your App Reviews post, but yes I can imagine those take a lot of time, as you have to play the game first as well, take pictures and write up the post.

  5. Sounds like a good week Lola. I also love the Zoo. It’s been way to long since I’ve been to one.
Congrats on the win. ‘Don’t Temp Me’ sounds like a good read. 😉

  6. I’m glad the book arrived safely to its new home, Lola 🙂 And I really hope you’ll enjoy Lori Foster as much as I do! She was delighted when I came to a second signing of hers at BEA, and at first, I told her I already had the book, and she actually suggested I get a second one for a giveaway 🙂 That’s just how nice she is! And I completely get your giddiness of holding a physical ARC in your hands – I’m the same way 😀
It sounds like you’ve had a great week, busy, which is good, right? And warm, but not too hot – which is something I would like to happen here soon. It’s still raining and kind of cool here 🙁
Your interview over at Daniela’s blog was awesome, I loved it!!

I think this is the first physical arc I ever got. I have gotten a few physical copies that I won and even a few for review, but no arc’s.

That’s a shame you’re still having rain. Maybe our weather will move to Switzerland soon. We had some rain today which was welcome after the warmth weather we had. And it was definitely the good kind of busy this week :). I am glad to hear you liked the interview, it was fun to answer her questions!

    • That’s fun you won something from Lexxie too! What did you win?

It was the good kind of busy week, I hope it continues!

  7. Japanese Curry? Sounds to die for. I’m so hungry now!
The zoo sounds lovely, I’m so jealous, I want to go too 🙂
I haven’t read Daniela’s interview yet, going to head over there in a bit! The interviews are always so nice 🙂
Undone sounds pretty cool. I think I’m in a bit of a romance mood.

I hope you can go to a zoo soon, I always enjoy seeing all the animals.

I hope you’ll like the interview! Daniela does a great job with her interviews!

Undone is written by a pen name by one of my favourite authors and I am so excited I got a review copy! I have one more book lined up to read first, but then I am starting Undone.

Aww thanks! I hope you get to look at my blog tours. I have quite tours still open for sign-up at the moment.

  8. I’ve watched some DS9 in the past but it’s been so long… I always liked the concept though. Too bad they can’t continue that story somehow… and it’s on Netflix so when I run out of things to watch maybe I should get back into it.

Nice interview over at Daniela’s. And Star Wars Rebels… maybe I should be watching that. Hmm…I’ll watch for your Ten coay mysteries post too, sounds fun. 🙂

Star Wars Rebels is fun, not as good as Clone Wars in my opinion, but still great!

  9. Hope you enjoy your books. The zoo is a fun places especially if you have a nice zoo. We do the zoo a lot and we have another place that’s more science hands on that we like to visit too. 11. It sounds like you had a really nice week! Does the zoo you visit have mostly small animals? Or is it a wide range of species, big and small? We have a zoo not far from us, but they have mostly smaller animals, which I like. And it’s nice to hear the weather has been nice there too! It got a little cold here earlier in the week and we were all confused by it. Lol. Today it was really windy while we were at the pool, and I felt a little chilled. I’m ready for summer.

Congrats on winning that book! I hope you enjoy it!

    • The zoo has quite the big range of animals, they have the zoo split up in different continents. They have a section with all kinds of water animals. They have animals like elephants, wolves, tigers, lions and Giraffe’s, but also smaller pole foxes and cute tiny rodents. It’s a really nice zoo, with big cages for the animals. I always enjoy visiting.

That smaller animals zoo not too far from you sounds nice too. I have once visited a zoo with mostly smaller animals when visiting my mom and that one was neat too.

It’s always so fun to win a book and it was really neat this blogger gave away arc’s she had gotten during BEA. I hope it’s a good one 🙂

That must be fun to do volunteer work at the zoo. Aww baby tiger cubs, those must look adorable!
