sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

Another busy week. I did a lot of work towards the marketing assistant project I am doing this month, I am setting up a site for an author and am considering to add that to my site as services that I offer as I am enjoying the work. I had two new tour sign-up posts go live on Lola’s Blog Tours this week. And Michelle designed her first tour banner for me, the banner for The Spirit Chaser, and I am really happy with the design she did.

Still didn’t got much blogging doen and only barely kept up with comments on my blog. I hope I have more time to visit other blogs besides commenting back next week. I did read an awesome book this week, Revealed by SJ Pajonas. And my bookdepository order arrived with two cozy mysteries I ordered. My first cozy mysteries in paperback, I am feeling pretty happy about it. We sent a surprise early christmas cards to my mom and my boyfriend his parents, with a small christmas ornament and a recipe included. They were both really happy with it!

Saturday evening we watched Home Alone, I’ve seen the movie multiple times already, but it’s fun to rewatch it now and then.

Random Picture(s) of the Week

Pandavlokken
Continuing last week’s theme of weird things we dutchies eat on our bread. These are “Vlokken”, they are chocolaty flakes that you can eat on your bread. This is a fun variety called “Panda Vlokken” as they contain some white chocolate panda heads and half of the “Vlokken” are white and taste like coconut instead of chocolate. This is our favourite variety. I might try and get a picture of Hagelslag next week.

Panda Vlokken op Brood
And here’s a picture of “Panda Vlokken” on my bread for lunch, yum!

Book Haul Cozies
And here’s my picture of my paperback book haul for this week. Yay I was so happy to have these arrive and they both sound like great series.

  1. I think that sounds like a great add on to your author services Lola, especially when you enjoy the work. It’s easy when you know how but I remember how much I struggled at the start. I often add an ornament to special Christmas cards but I love the idea of including a recipe too! It makes it so personal, love it.
Your 2 new cozy mysteries look cute, hope you enjoy them and all your other new books too.

    • It’s just hard to make the step as I have the feeling there are others who know even more about wordpress than me, but I do enjoy the work and as long as I am clear about what I can and can’t do I might be able to help some people.

I know how much I struggled with setting up Lola’s Reviews on wordpress, that was almost 2 years ago I think. I read so much and was so stressed and afraid I would do something wrong. I’ve set-up 5 wordpress sites in total now and it get’s easier every time. And I still learn new things every time as well. It’s sometimes so overhwelming, like how it feels like there is always more you can learn.

The Herding Cats and Burnign Soup recipe exchange sign-up gave me the idea to do something similiar for my mom. So I translated two of my recipes to dutch and included them with the card and christmas ornament, it was so fun to hear her reaction.

  2. I got Soundless, too, but I haven’t started reading it yet… I was busy with November 9 instead 😉

Vlokken looks very good, Lola! I love seeing the special treats you eat in Holland! My husband is going quite often to Holland to skate (he’s a speed-skater) and not next week, but the week after, he’s going to Alkmaar. In January, I might come with him, but stay in Amsterdam to visit, shop a little bit and discover Holland myself 🙂

Your new books look great, I hope you’ll enjoy all of them.

Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

    • I had Soundless pre-ordered and am looking forward to reading it. I plan on reading November 9 eventually, but I haven’t bought my copy yet.

Oh that’s fun your husband is goign to Holland to skate. Skating is a big deal here, my mom used to go to some tournaments/ competitions. I’ve visited Alkmaar once.
I’ve visited Amsterdam quite afew times so far, often to shop. It’s the biggest city in Holland I think, so it’s pretty busy. You might be able to try out Vlokken is you visit ;).

    • Thanks! I hope there’s a tour you’ll like :). I’ve got quite a lot of tours for different genres lately.
Meet Your Baker sounded like a great cozy mystery. I am glad to hear you enjoyed it :). I hope I can read it soon.

  3. Those cozies look good! I love their covers. 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed REVEALED, and it was a part of your week worth mentioning. I’m so amazed at all these strange but delicious looking things you guys put on bread. There’s no way I could have all that sugar for lunch. I would die in a sugar crash in the afternoon! Lol.
    S. J. Pajonas recently posted…Sunday Update – November 15, 2015My Profile

    • I always like the covers for cozies, they look so cute and cozy. Reading an amazing book can really cheer up my week, so I thought it was worth mentioning.
There are a lot of non sweet things to eat on your bread here too, but most of those are quite common like boiled egg, cheese, ham etc. The sweet things seem to be more typical dutch, so it’s more fun to share those. And I like eating sweet things for lunch.

  4. I had fun making that banner, I can’t wait to make more for you 🙂
Vlokken looks yummy, I usually put butter, peanut butter, apple butter or nutella on my bread but never anything like that, looks yum.

I didn’t get to commenting like I wanted to this week either but hoping to get to a few blogs this week.

Enjoy all your new reads! Have a great week, Lola! Happy Reading! ox

    • I hope I have a new tour soon, so you can make another banner :). I also like peanut butter and nutella, but hardly ever put it on my bread for some reason.

It just seems I have one busy week after another, which is a good thing, but I always feel sad when I don’t get to comment as much as I want to
Lola recently posted…Sunday Post #152My Profile

  5. The vlokken looks great, chocolate on bread. Yes please. Enjoy the cozies, I like getting books in paperback especially when they have fun covers. 🙂

And Home Alone is a great movie to watch at this time of year.
Greg recently posted…Sunday Post #117My Profile

    • We have different variations to eat chocolate on bread, beside vlokken we also have hagelslag and very thin pieces of chocolate which you can place on your bread.

I like buyign paperbacks now and then for the nice covers. Although in the case with cozies and some other mass market paperbacks I also buy them as they are cheaper than the e-book. So then that’s double reason to buy the paperback.

I agree Home Alone is a great movie to watch this time of the year. We’ll be watching the sequels soon too.
Lola recently posted…Review: Deceptions by Kelley ArmstrongMy Profile

    • These books are novella’s set in her Singularity world. I read the first two Singularity books and they are really good. It is more sci-fi and futuristic than her steampunk series, but I would recommend them if you like sci-fi. These novella’s give some interesting additional informaiton and world building from other point of views than the main character.

  6. Adding webpage set up is probably a good idea since lots of us have no clue how to do it and would gladly pay for someone else to do it if we need one. 🙂

Glad the new banner looks good.

Very fun to have your gifts make your folks happy. I’m still working on what to get or make for my in-laws. Still have some time.
Your Panda Vlokken looks intriguing. I thought it was for melting at first like chocolate chips.

Nice haul of books. It’s always fun getting a package of books in the mail. Hope your cozy mysteries are good. And look at all the sci-fi. I think I have the first few of that series.

    Have a good week!
Sophia Rose recently posted…Kit’s Hill by Jean Stubbs #Review #SweetDelightMy Profile

    • Thanks Sophia, it’s good to hear others think it’s a good idea too :).

We’re not doing gifts with my family this year, but we do have some good ideas for my boyfriend their parents already.

Weirdly enough they hardly sell chocolate chips here, or they are very pricey. But vlokken and other types of chocolate for on bread that we do have.

The sci-fi was a box set with four anthologies, so I just listed them individually. I read the first book and enjoyed it. I am looking forward to readign the cozies!

  7. I have a copy of Soundless and I can’t wait to read it. This is my first time reading from the author so since she is really popular I’m curious about her writing. Hopefully we will both enjoy it. Your Panda Vlokken looks yummy (I love chocolate)and the packaging is adorable. I hope you enjoy your new books and have a great week!
    Kathy recently posted…Weekly Wrap-Up #77My Profile

    • I have read almost all her other series so far, except for one and the last book in one series and I really like her writing. So I hope Soundless is just as good, it’s does sound very different from her previous work.
Yeah I love the packaging for the panda vlokken, it’s adorable! And this brand has some of the best vlokken.
Lola recently posted…Review: Deceptions by Kelley ArmstrongMy Profile

  8. I have Soundless, too! It’s my next up read, although I’m not nearly so excited for it as I was intially. I’ve read two reviews, thus far, and they’ve both been negative and pointed out the same faults and things that I’m pretty sure I’m going to take issue with, too, so *sigh*. Hopefully I can get some enjoyment from it, or surprise myself and love it, even! But I’m doubting it.

Those chocolate flakes look… amazing and bewildering. It’s like, the best combination for a foodstuff, especially with those random little panda shapes! Those are cute! I really like that you’re including these food bits to your posts! I loved this and your last one, and I tried frozen custard! It was pretty swell!

    • I also read one less than positive review from someone who did love VA, so that does make me a bit more hesistant to read it, but the premise sounds really unique.

I am glad you like my food pictures, it’s fun thinking every week of what to photograph now to show you all. Especially things they might not sell in other countries. The little panda heads in the vlokken make it extra fun, those heads are called “funnies” and some packages/ brands of vlokken and hagelslag include them.

    • The chocolate flakes are really good :).

I am really getting into the cozy mystery genre lately and these two have been on my to-read list for a while.

  9. Really curious to know what you will think of Soundless! I love Mead through her Game of X series but I wasn’t able to really “FEEL” this particular release of hers. Would be interested to know what you think of it!

Also, I’m happy that you’ve found something you love to do! Designing is always fun because it challenges our creativity. When I’m in need of one, I’ll let you know! 😉

    • I am sorry to hear you didn’t really feel Soundless, you’re the second person to say that :(. It makes me a bit more hesistant to read it, especially as the concept sounds so interesting.

It’s actually not designing I do, but just setting up the website and the more technical side of it. I can’t design at all. Which is why I am happy to know Michelle, who did most of the designs for my blog and now will do the tour banners for Lola’s Blog Tours too.

    • Oh that’s interesting you have a town close by that has a large dutch community, let me know if you can find the cocosbread there! I wish I could ship some to you, but the shipping costs are probably really high :(.
We definitely have quite the assortment of weird things we put on our bread.

      • I did, but I read it right after Ruby Circle. I think that made me not like it as much as I might otherwise, because my mind was still stuck in the VA/Bloodlines universe. I kept comparing the main characters to Sydney and Adrian. LOL! However, I really enjoyed her stepping away from vampires and the like, and also focusing on a different culture. Plus, the story was pretty interesting.

        • I am glad to hear you enjoyed it :). I’ll make sure not to read it right after Ruby Circle (still have to read that one), so I won’t compare it too much with her VA and bloodlines series. It does sound like a nice change from her other works with how different Soundless is.

  10. Red Iza

I want to read all you new books !! Really, they all look great, enjoy 😉 And I can’t wait to read your review of Revealed !

    • Gah I loved Revealed! It was such a awesome book. I hope you’ll enjoy my review 😉
It was a good bookish week, I am really excited for all my new books.

    • I think Vlokken are soemthgin typical dutch. The panda variety is really fun :).

I totally agree! Some extra hours each day just for reading and visiting would be bliss. It seems there’s never enough time in a day to do everything I want to.
