sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?
Happy New Year everyone! I liked seeing all the New Year’s resolutions posts on blogs this week and it really feels like a new year now!

I spent quite some time on wednesday in the kitchen, making cinnamon rolls with banana for the New Years brunch/ high tea on Thursday. Beside that we didn’t do anything special for New Years. On New Years eve we stayed home, I did some reading and blog commenting and in general we just had a nice and relaxing evening. Then when it was the New year we watched some fireworks, but it wasn’t really all that special. Some new things, like purple, pink and deep red fireworks, which was fun to see. I had a headache, so after watching some fireworks I went to bed.

And I got an e-mail from Jetpack, one of my plugins, with an overview/ stats for Lola’s Reviews this year. It was really fun to see. You can see my Jetpack statistics overview here. I posted on 315 posts this year. And the top commentors were Michelle from Because Reading, Red Iza, Herding Cats and Burning Soup, Berls from Fantasy is More Fun and Jean from Happy Indulgence! Thanks for commenting so often!

On thursday we had the high tea/brunch. My mom, her husband, my sister and her boyfriend and the daughters from my mom’s husband visited. My sister had made pancakes and carrot cake. My mom made some delicious chocolate petite fours and scones. And there was much more, but this is about what I ate. There was so much food I didn’t get to try it all.

My mom also got me a kitchen scale as a late christmas present, I am currently using the one from my sister, but I wanted one of my own so I have one when she decides to move out. So I am really happy I got one. My mom also made some new hammocks for the rats, yay! I was getting really short on hammocks as they bite holes in them sometimes, so it’s nice to have a few more. My boyfriend got a juicer, to make orange and lemon juice. I bought some oranges this week so we could try it out!

Also we had an issue with our boiler, the pressure was low, so I asked my mom’s husband to fill it with some extra water when he was here on thrusday for the brunch(this needs to be done about 2 or 3 times a year). Unfortunately something went wrong as a part of the boiler was old and it broke and the water just flew right out of it. Then it kept dripping, until the pressure was so low we didn’t have hot water anymore. Luckily the weather wasn’t too cold so we could deal with not having warm water, but it was weird not having warm water. I kept turning on the sink and wondering why the water didn’t got hot. We submitted a request to the company from which we rent the house, luckily they came and fix it on friday so we only had one evening and one morning without hot water, which wasn’t too bad.

I also made an appointment with the doctor assistant to get my ears cleaned next monday and submitted a request for blood testing as I was concerned about my B12 maybe being low as I am a vegaterian. The doctor assistant had to send me request to the doctor first, so I hear more about that next week. I am pretty proud of myself I actually made the appointments as normally I procrastinate things like this. I hate going to the doctor even when I know it’s for the best, it always makes me nervous.

I am really excited that my new feature Lola’s Kitchen is starting next week! It will be a weekly feature on friday, I already have posts scheduled until the first week of April, so it feels like I already did a lot of posts. I am excited to finally be able to share them with you! I hope you’ll enjoy reading the posts as I did making them :).

WinterCoyer
I finished my first book for Coyer, Paragon by Autumn Kalquist, my review will be up next week. And I started my second Coyer book: Soul Enslaved by Keri Lake. It also counts for my 2015 Reading Assignment Challenge, so yay for that!

historical challenge 2015
I also decided to join a historical romance reading challenge, which is hosted by Herding Cats and Burning Soup. This challenge neatly ties in which one of my Bookish Resolutions to read more historical romances. She is also the one who convinced me I had to give this genre a try.
So three year long challenges this year, which is a big change from zero last year. I always stayed away from reading challenges, not wanting to have the commitment. But after joining Coyer last summer I realized I was missing out, so I am giving the reading challenges a chance this year!

    • I know going to the doctor is a good thing, but I just dislike going there. Let’s hope the blood testing turns out good and it was just a false alarm.
Happy New Year to you too!

    • Thanks Anna and yes I was very happy with the new hammocks, although I stil need more so mom asked me to send her a wishlist, I think it contained about 22 different hammock designs me and the herd babes want. I am just happy my mom is so handy and can make those thigns herself.
I am really excited about the historical romance challenge and can’t wait to read my first book!

    • It was a yummy start of 2015 indeed! I was really relieved the boiler got fixed so soon, I can’t imagine a whole weekend withotu warm water. Makes you realize how used we gotten to things like that.

Wish I could send you some cookies, as the cookies are pretty small there are a lot of them.

    • I am really happy my sister got me these cookie cutters and what I love most is that you can actually give them faces so you recognize it’s Miffy.

    • The cinnamon rolls turned out pretty well, I put more sugar and cinnamon in them then last time, so they tastes pretty strong. The cookies are so cute and as they are really small it seems like we have alot of cookies.

    • Sorry for making you hungry, but I love talking about food. It’s probably a good thing I soon have a feature for that maybe that will make me talk less about food in the sudnay posts, or maybe not ;).

  1. I had to call my son over to look at the cookies you make since when he was little he LOVED Miffy. Once again I am starving lol I always make sure I eat before I come to your sunday post. I can’t wait for your Lola’s Kitchen post.

Sorry about the Hot Water what stinks, ours broke last year and it made me realize how spoiled we are. I was boiling water just to get hot water to wash the dishes it was not fun at all. My dad is our landlord but he couldn’t get the guy to come until the end of the next day it was so annoying.

I hope you have a great week, Lola!

    • I also loved Miffy when I was a kid and still do, I also have a tea mug with Miffy on it, it’s my favourite mug (also got it form my sister!). Wish I could send some cookies for you and your family to try.
I hope you’ll enjoy the Lola’s Kitchen posts!

We are even more spoiled as we still have a dishwasher and that heats the water itself, so we could still do the dished without trouble. It certainly makes you realize how dependent you are ont higns like warm water.

    • Procrastinating the doctor is something I am good at, so I really surprised myself by going there so early this year. I am really glad my mom can make rat hammocks as they are pretty pricey online.

    • It has a lot of functions and you can put them on and off. The social sharing buttons beneath each post come throguh their plugin and I can see my stats. They also have the related post things you see on some blogs. They also have a piece where you can fill in your Pinterest code for easy verification of your site and they have a few other easy things like that. It’s made by the makers behind wordpress and it makes some functions they have on wordpress.com available for wordpress.org users, it’s really neat.

I just really don’t want to go to the doctor and it’s easy to think it’s not that bad, but in cases like this is better to just make an appointment to know for sure. And my ears need to be cleaned each year and I think I “forgot” 3 years in a row, oops. So it’s good I am getting that done now.

    • I am so happy with the cookie cutters as the Miffy cookies turned out so cute! It’s almost a shame to ate them.
It’s weird sometimes how some plugins won’t work. I once tried installing a caching plugin and had to manually remove all the code from my hostign panel as I couldn’t acces my site or dashboard anymore. Sad to hear Jetpack won’t work on your site as I really love the stats part of the plugin, although I guess there are also other plugins that can do that.

    • I hope you’ll be inspired to try some of the recipes or ofcourse convince someone else to make them for you, that totally works too! The first recipe post in two weeks is a pretty simple one and I think most are pretty doable, although there are soem that reguire some time.
I never thought of myself as a good cook and always let my sister do the cooking, but schedules changes and bit by bit I started cooking more and now I love it!

  2. Happy New Year! Those cookies are so cute. I’m looking forward to Lola’s Kitchen. I know how you feel about feeling accomplished since you’re scheduled into April. I have a monthly post that I’ve set up for the entire year. The details still have to be filled in month to month, but just having that skeleton post makes me feel better.

I liked looking at my Jetpack statistics for the year too. I even went back and looked at last year’s. I don’t remember seeing it then, but I probably did.

    • I hope you’ll enjoy the Lola’s Kitchen posts :). They take quite some time to make, so being ahead up until april is nice. Must be nice to have your skeleton posts for your monthly post scheduled ahead so far! Even if you still have to fill in some detaisl, having the basis already is nice!

I only switched to self hosting this year, so this was my first year seeing the stats. So that was a nice surprise!

    • The cookies did manage to cheer me up and the day afterwards I was happy to still have some cookies left. Knowing there are cookies to eat makes everythign more beareable.

Yay that you’re also doing the historical romance challenge, I am really excited for the challenge and I hope to get historical romances read this year.

  3. Cinnamon rolls with banana….*wipes drool of laptop* That just sounds absolutely GLORIOUS. And those Miffy cookies are cute as anything too…although sad you had a bad day. Bad days suck. Good job for being all responsible and going to the doctor though. πŸ˜‰ Hehe. I just procrastinate those kind of things forever and ever. Erk. I loathe doctors and dentists. *shudders*

    • They take a lof of time to make, but they are delicious. It’s basically cinnamon rolls with a half banana pureed through the dough and then the other half sliced in very thin sliced and added on the cinnamon sugar mixture.
Yeah something didn’t really go well on saturday, although the aftermath turned out better then expected, but I felt really bad in that moment. I just hate messing up and feeling like it’s my fault.

I loathe the dentist and doctor and it can be really hard to be responsible when it comes to those. Now I have the form to go blood testing, but I still have to actually go there. I did got my ears checked out and now have a nose spray, so let’s hope that works. And I have to coem back next monday to see if it helped :(.

    • Yay glad to hear you’re looking forward to the first Lola’s Kitchen post. I do cook a lot and have a Pinterest board for dinner recipes and one for sweet recipes.
