sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?
Overal this was a nice week. I didn’t got a lot of reading done, but I did finish one book, read a short story and started the next book. I have a few books with deadlines coming up, so I have to make sure to spend some time reading in the next week. I did do a lot of gaming this week, I am playing the Ratchet and Clank games on my ps3. I already finished Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction and Ratchet and Clank Quest for Booty (which was the worst and shortest Ratchet and clank game ever in my opinion). And I am not playing Ratchet and Clank A Crack in Time, which is one of the better games in this series so far. I like the weapon upgrade system in this game and there is some more added freedom with galactic systems where you can explore some moons and help other space creatures (small side quests with rewards). The graphics are really good in this game, so you can really see this is one of the newer games. The story and world building isn’t that good in most games, but it’s a lot of fun to play the games.

I finished reading the Fate Core book this week and did a lot of preparing for the upcoming Fate roleplay sessions. One of our D&D campaigns we started a few weeks ago we changed into Fate as well. I am really lookin forward to starting these two Fate sessions, although unfortunately all the other players are really busy, so it will probably be another 2 weeks before we have the first session.

Thursday my boyfriend and I went to a zoo. It was a bit rainy weather, so it wasn’t that crowded. We did have some heavy rain during which we took shelter and grabbed something to eat. Beside that it was a bit rainy, but it was totally worth it as I normally hate the crowds at places like this. At the oceanium part of the zoo we even had a few moments where we seemed to be almost the only ones there. It was fun to visit the zoo again, although I do always feel a bit sorry for the animals and how they are cramped into those cages.

A less fun thing that happened this week is that one of our roleplay campaigns has been delayed until July and another one has been cancelled both due to many of the other players being busy. And now I am a bit frustrated as I am really enthousiastic for the Fate system and want to try it out. My boyfriend and I have been working a bit more on the sea campaign which we are going to play with just the two of us, so let’s hope we can start that one soon.

So all in all it was a fun week with some frustrations trown in 🙂

Welcome to Vegas. Home of the Sin City Collectors. The job description is easy: Bring the offending supernatural in to the Boss and don’t ask any questions.

Nevada Hamilton has learned a few things since becoming a Sin City Collector, and staying away from vampires is one of them. After botching her first Collection, the vamp getting away after causing as much damage as possible, she hasn’t been assigned to another one since.

But when she receives her next playing card, she’s in for a surprise. Not only is a vampire her next target, but they’ve paired her up to make sure she gets the job done right. Refusing a Collection is not an option, but when she discovers who she’s working with, making the mission as difficult as possible for her new partner becomes her top priority…

Being a hellhound isn’t enough to protect Jake Troubadour from Nevada Hamilton, no matter how thick his skin is. Finding out he has to work with the beautiful dhampir, after not seeing her for three years, is a low blow—but Jake is a professional. He takes his Collections as seriously as he does running his bar. He’ll do whatever it takes to get the job done, but after that, he’s out. No more chances for the girl who wrecked his bike and scarred his soul so long ago. But even with his heart dead set against it, this hellhound quickly finds he’s not immune to love after all.

What’s Collected in Vegas, stays in Vegas…

No one creates realms like New York Times bestselling author Anne Bishop. Now in a thrilling new fantasy series, enter a world inhabited by the Others, unearthly entities—vampires and shape-shifters among them—who rule the Earth and whose prey are humans.

As a cassandra sangue, or blood prophet, Meg Corbyn can see the future when her skin is cut—a gift that feels more like a curse. Meg’s Controller keeps her enslaved so he can have full access to her visions. But when she escapes, the only safe place Meg can hide is at the Lakeside Courtyard—a business district operated by the Others.

Shape-shifter Simon Wolfgard is reluctant to hire the stranger who inquires about the Human Liaison job. First, he senses she’s keeping a secret, and second, she doesn’t smell like human prey. Yet a stronger instinct propels him to give Meg the job. And when he learns the truth about Meg and that she’s wanted by the government, he’ll have to decide if she’s worth the fight between humans and the Others that will surely follow.

For the first time in one stunning volume, here is the complete, epic story arc: The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. Experience the sweeping tale of good and evil, of myth and magic, of innocence and power-and witness the tragic transformation of Anakin Skywalker from mere slave to one of the greatest, most powerful, and feared villains of the galaxy: Darth Vader.
“The path has been placed before you, Anakin.
The choice to take it must be yours alone.”
On the barren desert world of Tatooine, young Anakin Skywalker toils by day and dreams by night . . . of traveling the stars to worlds he’s only heard of in stories. When Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi, cross paths with Anakin, it marks the beginning of the drama that will become legend. Courageous to the point of recklessness, Anakin comes of age in a time of great upheaval. The attempted assassination of Senator Padme Amidala thrusts the Republic close to the edge of disaster-and brings Anakin and Padme into a secret romance as intense as it is forbidden.
As combat escalates across the galaxy, the stage is set for an explosive endgame. Tormented by unspeakable visions, Anakin edges closer to the brink of a decision with profound ramifications. It remains only for Darth Sidious to strike the final staggering blow against the Republic-and to ordain a fearsome new Sith Lord: Darth Vader.

  1. Yeah visiting a zoo is always bittersweet. I’m so glad to see all those animals but I really feel sorry for them. I know how much I like my freedom so I think they deserve theirs. Also I need to start that Anne Bishop’s series soon as everyone seem to love it. Great haul 🙂

    • Yeah bittersweet is a good way to put it, it’s fun to see animals I wouldn’t see otherwise, but indeed I would rather they have their happiness as well. And I’ve heard so many good things about Written in Red, it sounds just like the kind of book I would enjoy, I hope to read it soon!

    • I saw Aces Wild in a newsletter from Amanda Cralson and it sounded like a fun read, so I had to grab it! And indeed I haven’t seen a bad review of Written in Red as far as I can remember.

  2. Love the zoo, I do feel bad for the animals but some places treat them pretty good, I love the animal kingdom in Disney and every summer we go to the Bronx Zoo in NY its such a big zoo and so weird to be walking around what looks like a forest in the middle of the Bronx.

Written in Red is one I have been wanting to read, Looking forward to what you think.

Enjoy all your new reads!!!! Have a great week!!! 🙂
Michelle recently posted…★✩★ Sunday, June 8, is #WorldOceansDay! ★✩★My Profile

    • This zoo we went is basically in the middle of one of the bigger cities in the Netherlands, it’s pretty weird. I do think they treat the animals pretty good in general, but it’s still different then really being free and some animals have pretty big cages, while other are pretty small.

    • Thanks for stopping by Laural! The blurb and cover for Aces Wild really grabbed my attenion and I bought it an impulse, but I am glad I did 🙂

    • There was this crocodile that basically was lying against the glass wall around his cage and he was so close. Now normally that would be super frightening, but in a zoo it isn’t. It was kinda fascinating to see such a dangerous animal up close. And yeah normally I am not a big fan of ocean water either, especially when you know what kind of animals live in there.

    • I am so glad I finally got Written in Red, I’ve been wanting to read it for such a long time now and I hope I’ll read it soon!
