sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This week was a bit all over the place. It started off great and then got less so. It got super hot here later in the week and it was just hard to get anything done, we don’t have air conditioning here, which is normal here in the Netherlands to not have air conditioning. So it’s been hard to cool down even while at home, although it sure is better than being outside as it’s even warmer there. I also had a bad headache, due to the heat I think and shortly after that went away another one. And it will be this warm till Wednesday probably, so we still have even more days to go, which makes me not happy.

As for some other not so good news, our amount of COVID-19 cases has been going up again in the Netherlands, which is very concerning. I think we might be getting a second wave after all, which is sad after the numbers had been so low for a while. And I am worried as my boyfriend has a job where he comes into contact with lots of other people. Guess we’ll see how that goes and what the government decides to do.

The sign-up post for a new bookstagram blitz went live this week and I’ve been working on a new review opportunity which will go live soon. That kept me busy this week and I am hoping for some more work next week. I also did some assistant work as well. I’ve been in a big non-fiction/ learning new things mood and listened to two podcast episodes and started another, as well as listened to a webinar about Goodreads for authors. I also splurged on some new non-fiction books this week.

As for some good news, my arm has been doing great this week, still the occasional pain, but it’s not too bad. Not sure why, maybe the being slightly careful and avoiding too much repetitive work has helped?

What did I read this week?

Write Great BeginningsSilver BoundPhantom of the Library

Write Great Beginnings was a great non-fiction book, I really liked all the advice and information in this one and the way it focused on great beginnings, but also a lot of advice was applicable to later in the book as well. It definitely gave me more insight into beginnings of books. Silver Bound was a fun paranormal romance set partly in another world and partly on earth, the world building was great. The romance developed a bit quickly, but I did like the characters and seeing them together. Phantom of the Library was a fun ending of the series, while not my favorite of the series sit did nicely wrap everything up and gave them another house to work on. i especially liked seeing them all make the whole reverse harem situation work.

Food Corner

Today I wanted to feature recipes that use peanut butter. I love peanut butter, not only is it great to eat on bread orto bake cookies with, but it’s also great for cooking. here are some of my recipes with peanut butter. Most of these have a peanut butter based sauce and the spring rolls have a peanut butter based dip. I am actually surprised how many recipes I have with peanut butter. I hope you check this these out!

I bought some new non-fiction books this week and tow new fiction books. Sophia’s review for Slipper Creatures convinced me I had to give it a try. And Map of Shadows is a fiction book by Joanna Penn, whose non-fiction books and podcast I enjoy, so I figured I would give her fiction a try too.

What’s your favorite way to eat peanut butter? Or your favorite dinner recipe with it?

  1. I can’t lie – my favourite way of eating peanut butter is with redcurrant jelly on nutty toast… But I try to resist as I just have to LOOK at such food and pile on the pounds, these days!

Yes – it has been HOT, hasn’t it? Even I am finding it hard to sleep and I love the heat… I hope it does cool down somewhat – Himself is really struggling. Let’s hope this coming week is an easier one!

    • I like peanut butter on toast, but never tried it with jelly. I’ll have to give it a try one day.

It’s been way too hot here. It really makes it hard to work and sleep and concentrate on anything. I think this heat wave is supposed to last till next Thursday :(.

    • I am sorry to hear you’re also getting a second wave :(.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll give that a try for dealing with the heat. My neck is so warm all the time, so having something cool on there sounds lovely.

  2. We haven’t hit a second wave yet because we can’t seem to get out of the first. US is not handling the virus very well. I have opted to keep my kids home from school and remote learn. I just don’t trust that anyone know what they are doing.

I don’t know how you do it without AC. I can’t stand Heat. It gives me a headache and makes me so cranky lol.

All that looks so yummy. My family doesn’t eat stuff like that but it looks so good. I wouldn’t turn it away. Yum!

Have a great week, Lola! Happy reading! xx

  3. It seems to be one long wave in the US. I was happy when our numbers went down, but now it’s just going up again. I hope the remote learn works out well for your kids.

AC’s just aren’t a thing here, but these last few summers really are way too hot, so who knows maybe in a few years AC’s will become normal here too. I keep getting headaches from the heat, it’s annoying.

  4. I’ve lived in a couple places without A/C when we rented out apartment so I have a shrewd idea what it’s like for you when there’s high temps. I get heat headaches, too. I dampen wash clothes and put them in the refrigerator and then when cold drape them around my neck or, if I’m laying down, across from forehead for some relief. This works great especially if you have a fan blowing on you. 🙂
Glad your hand is doing better. Too bad about the rise in Covid cases with the new round. Michigan is still a closed state with mandatory distancing, masks, and low group activities so we’re not seeing a rise, but it’s also not going away, either.

Love peanut butter. I just got a new stir fry recipe that uses peanut butter so I look forward to that. When I want a simple treat, I like to spread it on a piece of toast.

Oh yay, glad you’re going to try Slippery Creatures. I should be picking up some of your non-fic writer how-to books, too.

    Have a better week that’s headache-free, Lola!

    • It’s so difficult to deal with when the temperatures get high and you don’t have A/C. Someone else recommended the damp wash cloth thing as well and it’s been such a big help this week.

Good to hear your state is not seeing a rise, but too bad it’s not going away either. It sure is a virus that likes to stick around.

I also like it on a piece of toast, but stir fry’s are great too.

I look forward to reading Slippery Creatures. Let me know if you’re looking for anything specific where it comes to non-fic, I don’t share all my reviews on my blog.

  5. I hope the heat comes down so you have a better week with less headaches! We had a month with broken AC and I didn’t love it. We are enjoying it now as it’s the hottest part of the summer. But we had an earthquake this morning! I slept through it. Our favorite way to eat peanut butter is on apple slices, but we like it on toast too. Well I’d say the US is still in our first wave with it being stupid here so we stay home. Good luck this week!

  6. We had a heat wave as well, but we have central air. I remember when we went to the beach each year, most places didn’t have air and you didn’t need it..but every once in a while we would go on a week where there was no wind and it was unseasonable hot and humid… I do need to keep cool to sleep.

The food all looks good as do the books. I hope you both stay safe and wear masks.

  7. Sorry to hear your cases are going up, ours are too. So much good work has been done and it’s flared up again, the cause this time seems to have been people out in a pub in Aberdeen, the city has been locked down for a week to contain it.

I have a love/hate relationship with peanut butter, I go through phases of having it with everything then I get sick of it and don’t touch it for months.

    Have a good week!

    • Sorry to hear your cases are going up again as well :(. It’s such a shame to see it all go up after the hard work to get it down.

  8. You and I both have that love of peanut butter in common! All of those recipes look delicious. There’s something so great about the fact that peanut butter can be used both in sweet and savory recipes. It’s especially great in curries! Sorry to hear about the headaches and hot weather. I hope that’s better this week!

    • I really like that about peanut butter how it can be used in sweet and savory recipes. I’ll have to try a curry with peanut butter once, I don’t think I’ve tried that. This week was even worse as it was super warm the whole week, but no headaches luckily and it’s finally cooling down at least.

  9. When I was a kid in upstate NY we didn’t have central air either. We had 1 window unit in my parents room and when it got super hot we would all spend hours in their room. Hopefully it gets cooler soon for you!

Yeah we never really got out of our first wave, although numbers are FINALLY going back down in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. Just in time for school to start though 😞. I feel like this is going to continue to be rough until we have a good vaccine and/or reliable treatment. I hope your boyfriend is able to stay safe at work!

    Hope you’re having a great week 😁

    • It finally seems to be getting a lot cooler her,e but this week was difficult with the heat.

I am sorry to hear you never got out of the first wave, but that is god news the numbers are finally going down in your area. I agree that it’s probably going to stay rough until there is a vaccine or treatment.
