sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This week was a bit of a struggle. it started with my boyfriend working weird times again, which messed up our routine again and then the rest of the week settling back into the normal routine again. It was a bit of a tiring week, but I did get some work done I finished up the assistant work for this week and worked on my ongoing tour. I am working on some new tours that will hopefully be live next week.

My Kobo ereader was having problems again this week, ever since the last update it has had frequent crashes and I had to do restarts to get it working again. I took some time to work on it this week and did a full factory reset and then went back and added books on it again. Fingers crossed it works. For now it seems to be doing better and hasn’t crashed yet, but we’ll see how that goes on the long term.

I am also still having troubles with reviewing on Amazon. Since early April I suddenly can’t review anymore on Amazon. I contacted them twice already, but I guess due to the whole corona situation they haven’t replied yet. Which I understand, but it’s been a month now and I still can’t review and I feel bad for the books I promised reviews for that I can’t review on Amazon. I am keeping a list of all the books I haven’t reviewed there yet, it’s getting quite long. I do review on a lot of other places, but I know Amazon still is often one of the most helpful places for authors.

On a related note, B&N has improved their review system and it’s so much better now. It used to be quite unhandy to use, but now they have a pretty neat system which is a lot easier to use.

Now that I finally have flour again I made some peach crumble this week, which was delicious. I am really happy I got the flour last week as the shelves were all empty again this week, so seems like I had good timing last week. I also made some chocolate coconut balls this week, which turned out awesome. I also tried out a new recipe for orzo with pumpkin and red pesto sauce that turned out well.

April reading stats

I read 12 books in April. One of those was an audiobook, the rest were ebooks. I read 3 non-fiction books this month, 2 cozy mystery books, 1 science fiction books and my most read genre was fantasy with 6 books. I had a good mix of sources this month with 5 review books, 1 subscription book and 6 books I bought. 6 of the books I read counted for the 2020 new release challenge. I read 4 books by new to me authors this month. Hunting Fiends for the Ill-Equipped by Annette Marie was my favorite read of the month.

What did I read this week?

Audio for AuthorsBinding ShadowsA Sprinkling of Murder

Audio for Authors was a great non-fiction read that tackles everything from audiobooks to podcasts. I found it very informative and learned plenty of new things. A great starting point for authors who want to know more about audioooks. Binding Shadows was an awesome paranormal romance book. I like the characters, the well done world building and the romance plot line. A Sprinkling of Magic was a fun and unique cozy mystery with a sprinkle of magic about a fairy garden shop and the main character can see fairies as well.

Food Corner

When I first became a vegetarian I did not like tofu, but over the years I’ve developed a liking for it and now I love it. So for today’s food corner I thought I would feature some recipes with tofu. These are all great recipes. The main Peanut Pasta recipe doesn’t include tofu, but I like to bake some with that and mix it with the pasta. Do you like tofu? What’s your favorite way to eat it?

Book Haul:

Go for LoveVangie Vale and the Murdered MacaronBaker's Coven

I bought Go for Love and Vangie Vale and the Murdered Macaron. Go for Love Is the prequel to a new series by Laura Chapman. Vangie Vale and the Murdered Macaron had been on my wishlist for a while now and I saw it was available again in kobo after some time in KU, so I decided to buy it now. I also got the first three books in a series by Melody Sweet for review. They aren’t up on Goodreads yet, so I can’t link to them. Baker’s Coven I got for review from the author in audiobook format, I really enjoyed book 1 and I look forward to listening to this one.

What’s something new you tried this week?

  1. Our schedules are all over the place too. I feel like I don’t have a routine anymore and it’s confusing me. I am planning to try and stick to a schedule starting this week but who knows anymore.
Sorry your Kobe isn’t working, my kindle officially wont hold a charge anymore so I have to read on my phone, which isn’t bad but I miss my kindle.

You made some yummy looking stuff this week. I feel like I am cooking so much more and have spent a lot of time making stuff up to cook. It’s like I never know what the final product will be lol.

Have a great week, Lola! Stay Safe and Happy Reading! xx

    • It’s confusing when your schedule gets shaken up constantly. I hope you can find a new schedule.

Since the factory reset my Kobo is doing a lot better. I think something with the last update didn’t go right and now that it reset it seems to be doing better luckily.

It is fun to experiment with cooking and just make things up.

  2. Sorry to hear your Kobo ereader wasn’t working. Hopefully now it’s fixed. Amazon is so weird anymore, I don’t post reviews there. I mostly post them on Goodreads now even though I think Amazon owns that too.

    • I think it’s working better now as it hasn’t crashed since. I think something went wrong with the last update and now that it redid that update it’s working better again luckily.

Amazon sure can be weird when it comes to reviews. I want to post there, but I wish they wouldn’t have it so complicated with all their rules. Goodreads is easier even though they own that too.

  3. It is so hard when you have a rotating schedule like that. Not the last update, but the one before wrecked havoc with my Kindle making it crash. I was glad they updated again to get rid of the issues. Hopefully the Kobo will be better now after the restart.
I think its great that you scored a package of flour since it was out again this week. I don’t mind tofu in a mixture of foods, but it took me a bit to get used to it, too.
Nice haul and neat that the author sent you an audio for review.

    Have a good week, Lola!

    • I really have trouble with the rotating schedule as you can’t get used to anything or build a routine. Sorry to hear about your kindle, but that’s good the new update fixed it. I think something like that was the case with my Kobo or maybe something with the update didn’t go right. It seems to be working better now after the restart.

I hope I can get some flour again next week or so as it goes fast with all the baking I am doing. Tofu really took em some time to get used to, but now I like it.

I am really happy with the audio for review as book 1 was great and the site I usually use for audio didn’t have this one, so I am glad I got a copy this way :).

  4. And now I want peach crumble! LOL I cross my fingers that my Kindle paperwhite will hold a loooong time still Lola! Have agood week.

    • The peach crumble was delicious :). My Kobo ereader is pretty old already, but I hope it will last for a long time still as I love this ereader. It seems to be doing better since the restart.

    • Flour really is hard to find nowadays. I hope they have some again next week as I am getting low again. My ereader has been doing better since the restart so i hope it’s fixed now.

  5. I’m sorry to hear your week was so trying! It’s tough to operate outside of your set schedule. I completely understand that. I’ve been struggling with the lack of structure too. I love tofu! Lately, I’ve been flouring it and cooking it in the air fryer, then covering them with BBQ sauce. It’s super yummy.

    • I don’t deal well with a continually changing schedule, but it doesn’t look like it’s stopping anytime soon sadly. I haven’t tried flouring it yet, but I want to give that a try. It sounds yummy!

    • A maple glazed donut sounds good! I like chocolate glazed one as well, I don’t think I’ve tried a maple glazed one.

    • Thanks! I hope the flour is back again this week as I am running low again. I can imagine adjusting to working at home can be tough when you’re not used to that.
