sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was another weird week. With the corona virus everything seems a bit changed up now. Although I normally work at home already, so that’s not any different, but my boyfriend can’t work at home. Though his work has changed now as there is less work for him to do and his schedule is all changed up and can change by day. It’s quite confusing and he has to work at different times than normal as well. Even with the weird work schedule for my boyfriend, it seems at least my sleeping schedule is finally getting into some semblance of a routine and I actually had a few decent nights of sleep this week. I did have another headache to deal with this week.

I had to do multiple trips to the grocery store again this week to get everything I needed as there are still empty shelves every time I am there. Still no pasta and toilet paper, but luckily I still have some of both of those things. And I finally found my usual bread back in stock when I almost ran out of bread. The grocery store has implemented some changes to limit the risk of spreading the virus, but it’s still hard to keep the appropriate distance from other shoppers when there.

My mom and her husband came for a short visit this weekend to help with a few small things in the house and my mom helped me with my taxes. I am always happy to have that done. I also called my grandma to see how she was doing, she’s not sick yet and doing fine luckily.

Work wise it was a pretty decent week. I got some hours of assistant work done and did plenty of Lola’s Blog Tours work. There is a tour I organized that started this week and a sign-up post for a new tour that went live as well as the usual confirming of tour stops and communicating with authors and bloggers.

I made some cookies this week as well as some Kaiserschmarrn. And I tried out a new dinner recipe, which was a stew with sweet potatoes and a sauce made of peanut butter and tomatoes, which sounded weir to me, but it was actually really good. Picture is below. I rearranged some of my future scheduled recipe posts and have a recipe post scheduled for once every two weeks for the rest of the year. I am happy to be back to a regular schedule with these and have lots of recipes I am excited to share with you.

Coyer Yearlong Challenge – Quarantine Edition

What did I read this week?

The Dragon Mistress Book 4The Simple WildMurder at Pirate's Cove

I finished three books this week, two 4 star reads and one 3 star read. The Dragon Mistress Book 4 was a great ending to this series. I liked following Frella and her men their adventure as in this book they fought to push an evil king from the throne. The Simple Wild was a great read, I liked following Calla’s adventure in Alaska and seeing her change along the way. The setting was interesting to read about too and I liked the side characters. The romance didn’t fully work for me though with the whole hate to love trope and I thought they both went a bit too far with their pranks. Murder at Pirate’s Cove didn’t really grip me, I wasn’t invested in the mystery, but there was a great twist at the end. I liked the main character well enough, but wish we had learned more about him and the side characters.

Food Corner

I thought I would feature two things I baked this week. Earlier this week I made some Kaiserschmarrn, which is a type of pancake like dish that instead of making pancake shaped, you break into these smaller bite sized pieces. It’s so yummy and easy to make and I like making this when i crave some pancakes. Luckily I managed to get some eggs last weekend so I could make these. I also made some of my favorite cookies, the chunky cookies with pecans and chocolate. These cookies are so good. I really like them, the combination of chocolate and pecans and cookie is just awesome. Links to my recipes are below.

Jumping The BullWandering Girl vs Torn BoyWolf's CurseDriveStarcrossedRelaunch your novelPlot Gardening

Jumping the Bull I got for review from the author. I am really excited about this one as I’ve enjoyed this author’s books so far. Wolf’s Curse is the sequel to Wolf’s Bane, which I read last year and really enjoyed. I bought it on release day and am looking forward to reading it. Drive I bought as it was discounted and sounded like an interesting non-fiction book. Starcrossed I got for review through netgalley, book 1 was awesome and I look forward to book 2. Relaunch Your Novel and Plot Gardening were both discounted and I liked the sound of these non-fiction books and bought them. I also got a bunch of freebies thanks to all the amazing authors who are discounting their books or putting them for free.

What did you do this week? Did you bake anything yummy?

  1. We did make a huge batch of our favourite root vegetable casserole to stock up the freezer, just in case we have to self-isolate. Glad you had a good working week and well done for the lovely baking. Take care, Lola:)

    • That’s a good idea to freeze some casserole in case you have to self isolate. I hardly have space in my fridge for much food, so I rarely freeze in things.

    • Yeah it would be nice to have go less in these times, but I just end up having to go to the store more often due to products not being available. Stay safe!

  2. So far, I’ve caught the grocery store right when it was stocking up so didn’t miss anything from my list. I’m only going every other week because I’m taking turns with my in-laws to get things from their lists on my turn and they do the say. We all live in the same town so that helps.
Yay for your new stew turning out great. It does sound weird, but I’ve learned that sometimes it doesn’t taste like it sounds. LOL
I’ll be doing COYER Quarantine, too.
Yay for finishing three books. I had a pretty good reading/listening week, too.

    Have a good week, Lola!

    • That’s nice timing you had getting to store as they were stocking up. I haven’t had that luck yet. And that sounds handy too how you have to go only every other week as your in-laws and you take turns getting things for each other. That sure is handy if you live in the same town.

Exactly the stew sounded like such a weird combination, but the flavor was really good.

Glad to hear you’re joining Coyer too πŸ™‚

    • I had some trouble adjusting to a new sleep routine, but I am happy it seems to be better now and I am sleeping better again. I hope you give the Kaiserschmarrn a try, it’s delicious! Let me know how it goes if you decide to try it πŸ™‚

    • It was a pretty productive week. The peanut butter and tomato sauce sounded weird, but it actually tasted great. It sure was a good book haul week. Stay healthy!

  3. It was my oldest daughter’s birthday this past Sunday so we baked a chocolate cake and some snickerdoodle cookies as well. Everyone (but me) has been enjoying the cake and cookies! (I’m not eating sweets or a lot of flour/carbs right now.) We’ve also been cooking a lot at home and that’s been nice too.

I’ve had a similar dish to the one you mentioned above before called an African Peanut Stew. It had lentils, sweet potatoes, and other veggies, plus peanut butter and tomatoes. It was really good!

    • I love snickerdoodle cookies. I should make those again soon. I hope your oldest had a fun birthday.

How fun you ate something similar. I think this dish is a variety on an African peanut stew indeed as that popped up when we googled the combination of peanut butter and tomatoes. It turned out really good, who knew tomatoes and peanut butter was such a good combination.
