sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

Another week went by. Not much different to say than previous weeks. Our daily routine is going decently now that we’re used to my boyfriend’s new job, but my sleeping routine is still a mess. I had two good night’s of sleep this week and then some bad ones again. I had another headache this week, a really bad one with nausea added in, but luckily it didn’t last as long as the one last week. And then once the headache was gone I had a decent night of sleep again.

It was a great week for work. A new review opportunity went live for an urban fantasy/ zombie book. And I am working on a new book blitz and a blog tour, hopefully the sign-up posts for those will be live next week.

Yesterday I spent some extra time in the kitchen making one of my favorite dishes onion pie. It turned out delicious as always. It takes a bit of extra time to make it, but it’s so worth it. And after the busy day it was nice to just spend some extra time cooking.

What did I read this week?

A Darkness AbsoluteThe Great Witches Baking ShowKilling it on Kobo

A Darkness Absolute was a great sequel in this series. It was quite the suspenseful read and I like reading about the isolated town of Rockton. It is a bit on the dark and gritty side for me though, so I went with a lighter contemporary romance as my next read. The Great Witches Baking Show was such a fun paranormal cozie mystery book. I liked the combination of baking, mystery and a bit of the paranormal. The narrator did a good job with this one and I liked how her different voices helped me remember better who was who. Killing it on Kobo was an informative read about how to make the best of selling your book on Kobo. Some interesting tidbits of Kobo specific information about promotion and pricing that was quite informative. And I finally know how to make a non country specific Kobo url, yay!

Food Corner

For today’s food corner I wanted to talk about vegetables. Some of my most sued vegetables are probably red bell peppers, onions, garlic, and potatoes. Carrots is another vegetable I usually have in the fridge. I also like pumpkin and tomatoes and get those when I have a dish that requires them. And I usually keep some lentils, chickpeas (for making roasted chickpeas as I don’t like them any other way) and corn in the pantry for adding to any dish that could use some. I do like most vegetables, but there are also plenty I just don’t use as often. Things like broccoli I like, but I only have a few dishes that use them. Then there are some vegetables I don’t like at all, like mushrooms, Brussels sprouts or asparagus. Which vegetables do you use most in cooking? Are there any vegetables you really don’t like?

This week I blogged about:

Review: Arkadian Skies by Lindsay Buroker
Review: Upside Down by N.R. Walker

Murder Most sweetMurder at Pirate's CoveAuthor UnleashedGood Girl

I got two new cozy mystery books for review this week through Netgalley: Murder Most Sweet and Murder at Pirate’s Cove. One of the non-fiction author’s whose newsletter I am subscribed to and whose books I enjoyed recommend the author of Author Unleashed, so I decided to grab the first book in the series as I am always on the lookout for a good non-fiction read. Good Girl is the first book in a series I’ve been curious about and I bought it when it got discounted to 99 cents this week.

  1. I love mushrooms, brussel sprouts and asparagus. I probably use those as well as broccoli and cauliflower the most. I love cooking but it gets so hot here in the Summer that it makes me want to just not cook at times.

    • It’s always interesting how everyone likes different ingredients. I’ll have to find some more recipes with broccoli as I do like that. When it gets warm here I also feel less like cooking, so I understand how with the hot weather you have there you don’t feel like cooking at times.

  2. I don’t like broad beans – and neither does himself and I’m fussy how spinach is presented, I far prefer it in with other things, but other than that, we both love most vegetable. Which is just as well, given we are vegetarian:). Sorry about the headache – and I hope you have a great week, Lola.

    • I also like spinach most when it’s in a dish with other ingredients. That is great that you love most vegetables when you’re vegetarian. I often struggle when going to restaurants with the fact that I don’t like mushrooms as it’s such a common ingredient in vegetarian dishes.

  3. I like all vegetables. Truly! I am a vegetable lover LOL I have a light liver condition and since my teenage years I have had to eat non fat food with lots of vegetables.

  4. Too bad about the headaches disrupting things for you. I get headaches and struggle to sleep when our temperatures and weather really start to fluctuate from winter into spring so I sympathize. Though, this week, I didn’t struggle too much and had some wonderful walks in milder days.
Love cooking with all those vegetables, too. I also enjoy just chopping them all up into a salad, too.
Glad A Darkness Absolute turned out good. They do get dark at times and have me breathless from the danger. Those Nancy Warren books look good.

    Have a great week, Lola!

    • I am sorry to hear you also get a bunch of headaches this time of the year. That sounds nice how you had some wonderful walks.

I don’t make salads as often actually, but I have a few salad dishes that I like.

I hope to get the next Rockton book soon as it’s a great series, but I need a few lighter reads in between first. I really like Nancy Warren’s books so far 🙂 and the audio versions are great.

    • Lack of sleep can cause headaches for me too, maybe that’s what caused or attributed to mine this week as well. I hope I can get some good nights sleep soon.
