sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a pretty good week. I did a good amount of work, but also had enough free time. It was the perfect balance, work hard and then after dinner relax. I worked ahead on assistant work for some of my authors, so I mostly focused on assistant work for the authors I couldn’t work ahead for and some Lola’s Blog Tours work. A new sign-up post went live for a new Middle Grade fantasy book blitz.

We had a quiet new year’s eve and stayed at home and watched some fireworks. I am not a fan of all the loud bangs, but I like seeing some of the pretty fireworks. And we ate plenty of “Oliebollen”, it’s basically fried dough with raisins in there. And you can only buy them around New Year Eve. They are delicious and we found a place that sells some really good ones with great dough, not too oily and pieces of raisins and apple in them. Yum!

I got some reading done and finished my first book of the year. I have a few more books currently going on as well. And we played a new board game we got for Christmas, which had a steep learning curve, but we’re slowly getting the hang of it now and it is a lot of fun.

Yesterday evening we went out for dinner with my mom, her husband, my sister and her boyfriend to celebrate Christmas and New Year. We had a nice dinner at a vegetarian restaurant and the food was delicious. We also exchanged some gifts and talked a lot.

What did I read this week?

Druid Vices and a Vodka

I made good progress with most of my current reads, but only managed to finish one book. Druid Vices and a Vodka was another great read in this series. My review is up on my blog already too.

Food Corner

For today’s food corner, I want to put my Roasted Chickpeas recipe in the spotlight. This is the recipe that made me like chickpeas. I don’t like them except for roasted or in hummus. These roasted chickpeas are so yummy and pretty easy and quick to make as well. It’s a nice hearty and yummy snack or as addition to other dishes or salads. And another great thing is that you can make these entirely to your taste by seasoning them how you want. I do have some examples of my favorite ways to season them in the recipe post. I hope you give these a try!

Book Haul:

Forgotten AgesMurder on Cape CodCatapultSilver BoundCloche and Dagger

I spent some Christmas money on books this week. I enjoyed the books by Lidnsey Buroker that I read so far and when I saw the Forgotten Ages box set was only 99 cents, I decided to pick that one up. Murder on Cape Cod is the first book in a new series by one of my favorite cozie mystery authors, so I grabbed a copy on the day it released wide. It’s been only available on B&N until now. Catapult is the second book in the Cat Ship series. I am currently reading the first book Catalyst and am really enjoying it, so I bought book 2 already. And also bought another book by the same author Silver Bound as I liked the sound of that one. Cloche and Dagger has been on my wishlist for a while now, so I finally decided to buy it.

What’s the first book you finished reading in 2020?

  1. Sounds like you had a good New Year’s and week with family visits, presents, and getting work done. Your Oliebollen bread sounds delicious and glad you found some just the way you prefer it.
I must try roasting chickpeas to put in my salad.
Nice haul. I had a $5 credit at Amazon so picked up a couple sale books I’ve been interested in, too.
I’m still catching up on the too many arcs I took for December. LOL

    Have a good week, Lola!

    • It was a good week :). I quite like the oliebollen we had this year, the shop we got them from makes some really good ones.

Always nice when you can spend some money on books :). Good luck getting caught up on your arcs.

  2. Oh I’ve made the roasted Chickpeas before. I think it was Anna who had a recipe a while back that I saw and followed. I didn’t bother staying up for New Year’s Eve. I put my ear plugs in and went to bed.

    • I quite like roasted chickpeas :). That sounds like a good way to handle it to just put in ear plugs and go to sleep. We usually wait till the worst of the noise have passed before we go to sleep.

  3. It sounds like a really good start to 2020, Lola:). I’ve also got hold of Lost Flyght as I really enjoyed the first two books. The first book I’ve completed this year was the audiobook version of The Lost Olympian by Rick Riordan, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Have another good week!

    • It was a good start to 2020. I hope you enjoy Lost Flyght! I look forward to hearing your thoughts once you finish reading it. I am glad to hear you started the year with a good book as well 🙂

  4. Lola I want to read that series by Annette Marie too as I just discovered ehr books last month through the red Winter series! And these roasted chickpeas seem delicious!

    • I hope you give this series a try, it’s a great one. It’s the first series I read by her, but I plan to read the Red Winter series as well. I even own a box set copy of it already.
