sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was not a good week, but there were some good parts luckily. Last Sunday Post I mentioned I caught a flu, well by Monday morning I felt a lot better and then Monday evening I started feeling worse again and the rest of the week I spent sick again. Seems I caught another flu or maybe a cold and then a flu, who knows. I am tired of being sick and hopefully I feel better soon. As I am writing this Saturday evening I still feel pretty bad. And the problem with running my own business is that I can’t easily take a day off. So I still worked every day as much as I could and made sure the most important things got done at least. It’s been difficult to focus on work, but I am glad at least I got the most important things done.

I had two tours running that I organized and some other Lola’s Blog Tours work that needed to be done as well as some hours of assistant work that I did, although less than I had hoped to do. On Thursday I went out for lunch with my mom, it was a fun lunch and it was nice to be out for a bit, but also tiring as I wasn’t feeling too well yet. I managed to finish some books this week, but haven’t been able to do much blogging. I apologize for my lack of commenting back this week.

I did again do some baking, strangely enough I like baking when I am sick. I baked something new this weekend, it’s called Babka. It’s a sweet bread dough with chocolate swirls in it in this case. There are also cinnamon, nutella and other versions out there. I found quite some different recipes on Pinterest. It’s a pain to make as it has to rise multiple times and you have to mix the dough for 10 minutes first, but it did turn out great. I posted a picture below. I also made crepes for the first time and while they were a bit too thick, they tasted amazing and they turned out great.

What did I read this week?

Graveyard shiftJOMOHarvestSpellbinding his RangerSlaying Monsters for the Feeble

I got quite some books reads this week. First I finished Graveyard Shift which was an awesome third book in this series, I really liked this installment with plenty of suspense and I liked seeing the couple work as a team. JOMO was exactly what I expected, it’s a book full of ideas on how to spend your time at home. It was fun to read through the ideas, although some ideas were a bit similar. Harvest was a well written and interesting short story told forma robots point of view, the robots point of view was very well done and added an extra dimensions to the events. Slaying Monsters for the Feeble was an exciting action packed read and the second book in this spin-off series. I enjoyed it a lot and liked Robin and Zylas interactions.

Food Corner

For this week’s food corner let’s look at soups. I think soups are great for this of the year, when I am sick I always feel like eating soup and I just shared a new soup recipe this week, so I figured it would be a good pick for this week’s theme.

  1. Sorry to see that you are still battling the viruses. Glad you had enough oomph to get to your work tasks and even some cooking and baking. I like soup when I’m sick, too. Way to go finishing a stack of books. The Susan Kaye Quinn looks good. I like her short story collection.

Hopefully this week will be better for you.

    • It’s a very persistent virus or viruses for sure. I am glad I got some work, cooking and baking done this week. The new Susan Kaye Quinn stories were good.

  2. Man, I’m sorry to hear you were sick again this week 🙁 I hope you’ve gotten all the illness you’ll get this flu season! I know it must be hard with having your own business – I hope you did get the rest you needed.

That bread looks so yummy! I might have to look into making some. This is the time of year to bake for sure.

    Have a great, healthy week!

    • I hope I got all the illness for this flu season as I really don’t want to get sick again. It really is hard to take days off when you have your own business.

It sure is the time for baking. I got quite some baking done these past few weeks. Maybe I’ll do a recipe post for the babka, it was really good, but a pain to make.

  3. RO

OMG – I’m so sorry that you’re not feeling well. Are you sure that it’s not the flu and you may need to go to the hospital? Also, I know it’s rough when we work for ourselves, but hpe you can find a day or two to rest and relax. That Babka looks super yummy! I stay away from dishes that are too complicated, but that doesn’t stop me from watching all these cooking shows on TV. (lol) I sure hope you get to feeling better soon, and I’m sending some healing hugs your way.

    • I have no clue if I caught a flu or a cold, or both, but it sure stuck around for long. I don’t feel that bad I needed to go to the doctor. I managed to find some hours to do something else, but not a full day off sadly.

The Babka was really good, but it sure was complicated recipe. I don’t do those too often. It’s more fun watching cooking shows for these kind of recipe.

    • This week was finally a bit better luckily. The Babka was great, although it was a pain to make. Weirdly enough I can focus on baking a lot easier than work when sick, so it actually went quite well.

    • Those muffins you make sound nice. Cutting and grating veggies always takes quite some time. That is nice you can freeze them. Do you have a link to a recipe for those? I would like to give them a try.

  4. So sorry you still aren’t feeling well. My throat has been killing me and everytime it goes away, the next few days it comes back again. I can’t seem to get rid of it.
I hope you feel better, make sure you rest and drink lots of water and tea.

The Babka looks yummy! OMG SOUP! I love soup. It’s my favorite to make and I want to make pumpkin so bad but I am so worried I am going to mess it up lol

I hope you have a good week, Lola! Happy Reading! xx FEEL BETTER!!!

    • I am feeling a lot better now, but my throat still isn’t happy. Sorry to hear your throat has been hurting so much. I hope it goes away soon.

The Babka was really good. I really like soup, although there are still a lot of flavors I haven’t tried making yet. Pumpkin soup is really good, I hope you give it a try.

  5. That Babka looks wonderful, it’s actually on my list of bakes to try. I tend to prefer uncomplicated recipes because I’m not really precise enough when it comes to measurements which is so important for baking, and I don’t have a bench mixer so I have to do it all by hand.

Wishing you a great reading week, and I hope you feel better soon

    • It was a complicated recipe to make, but it tastes really good. I hope yours turns out well when you give it a try.

Here we often use a scale to measure things, which makes it a lot easier to measure things precisely. I do have a hand mixer, but I hope to get a standing mixer once so I don’t have to hold it. Not sure if you can even do the babka without some sort of mixer as it need to be kneaded a long time.

    • I like trying new recipes and the Babka turned out so good. I am feeling a bit better this week, but still not fully back to normal.

  6. A virus has been going around over here too. I was sick for a couple days about 2 weeks ago, though because I have been taking vitamin c consistently for the last year, it wasn’t too bad. I really hope you feel better soon! And that Babka you made looks absolutely delicious! 🤤

I hope you have a great week!

    • That’s nice you weren’t sick too long. That’s good to know the vitame c helped. The Babka was really good and I like how it looks.

  7. One of the joys of winter – the illnesses we get zapped with! I hope you have now had your ration for the season, Lola. On the plus side, that creation you baked looks fabulous:). I hope the coming week is a MUCH better one!

    • Definitely one of the less fun things about winter. I hope I got all the sickness for this season now. I am happy with how the baking turned out.

  8. Sorry to hear you got sick! It’s bad enough when you can just mope around and feel sorry for yourself nevermind when you’ve got to pick yourself up and get work done! Hopefully, you feel much better this week.
I enjoyed Slaying Monsters For The Feeble too but I’m now crazy excited for book 3! I think book 3 is where it’s ALL going to kick off in a big way… I can’t wait!

    • It really is hard to get the work done when I am feeling sick, but I didn’t have the room to take more time off sadly.

I am really excited for book 3 too. I agree I think that’s were things are going to kick off in a big way. I am really curious were the story goes next.

    • I like to bake when I am not feeling well and like to eat it too, lol. I hate making breads, but I am slowly gettign a bit more confidence when it comes to making them. The Babka turned out really good.
