sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

Again a bit of a mixed week, still with meh moments, but also some good parts. It felt like my mood went up and down the whole time, it’s a bit tiring actually. But I am glad there were quite some good moments as well this week, I hope that trend continues. I got my assistant work hours done for the week and a tour I organized took place. I also sent out the media kit for next weeks tour.

This week I tried going outside a bit more often and we went for a few walks. We also got snow one day, yay! We hadn’t gotten snow yet this year and I am glad we got some after all and we could enjoy it this time. We spent some time walking through the snow and we made a small snowman. It was lots of fun. By now all the snow is gone already again, so I am really glad we could enjoy it while the snow was falling as it turns to mush so fast and then disappears.

This year one of my goals is to clean out my shelves and donate the books I don’t want to keep. I found out we have a few free little libraries in the town where I live so I visited two close to me. They don’t seem as popular as the one in our grocery store, but I dropped a few books off at each of them and some more at the grocery store one.

I had to throw away two plants this week that had died. One plant never did well here and no matter what I tried it just never did well. The other did great until it got colder this month and it suddenly went downwards very fast. I plan to buy some new plants in spring to fill up the empty pots.

And I cleaned out some things. I am always amazed at how much stuff we accumulate and it’s my goal to slowly works through things and throw away the things we don’t want and need anymore. It’s a slow progress, but it’s great to see a bit of improvement every now and then.

I also finished a puzzle this week and managed to read three books this week and bought a few new books too.

What did I read this week?

Not Dead YetLonely ShoreDue East, Beasts and Campfire Feasts

Not Dead Yet was a great read with a fun and well done combination of genres, paranormal, romance, suspense and mystery all blend together in an engaging read. Lonely Shore was a great sequel, even tough it was a bit sad, it also was a great read and showed the depth of feelings between these two characters. Due East, Beasts and Campfire Feasts fell a bit flat for me and I thought it wasn’t as fun as previous books in the series, but that also might be due to my weird reading mood.

What did I cook for dinner this week?

This week I blogged about:

Review: Over The Falls by Jordan Ford
Review: The Lion Mistress Book 1 by R.A. Steffan

What to expect next week on the blog:

– Review: Minder Rising by Carol Van Natta – Audiobook
– Review: The Shadowed Crown by Lidiya Foxglove
– Review: The Vampire Knitting Club by Nancy Warren

Book Haul:

Counting on YouValiant HeartThe Crystal QueenJeopardy in JanuaryTwo Witches and a Whiskey

I bought all of these, except Two Witches and a Whiskey which I got for review. Counting on You had been on my radar for a while and now that it was discounted to 99 cents I couldn’t resist grabbing it. Valiant Heart was recommended by an author I know in her newsletter, I liked the premise so I bought it. The Crystal Queen is the last book in this series I am enjoying, so I bought a copy on release day. Jeopardy in January looked and sounded like a fun cozie and I love the idea of a whole series set in the same town with a different main character in each book. Two Witches and a Whiskey I got for review and is the third book in this series, which I am really enjoying so far.

Has it snowed where you live? Do you like the snow?

  1. Sorry to hear you have a bit of the winter blues, but glad it didn’t interfere with getting things done. The walks and snow, the puzzles and organizing are a great way to beat the blah mood. We didn’t get much snow in December, but are making up for it this month. I’m always glad to see the snow rather than ice.
Too bad about the plants. Some are so sensitive that it is hard to keep them growing. I love orchids, but I cannot keep those alive for longer than a month or two.
Nice haul! I do love when a book from my wish list comes on sale. 🙂 Hope they are all enjoyable.

    Have a great week, Lola!

    • I am glad I did well with getting things done indeed and I sure am looking forward to some spring weather. Although the snow can be nice too, I also prefer the snow over ice.

It’s hard to keep the plants alive at time,s luckily I still have some that are doing well. And some plants do really well. I have two plants now that are doing so well, even if I neglect them a bit at times.

It’s nice when you can grab a book from your wishlist when it goes on sale :).

  2. We haven’t had any good snow since November, I do hope we get at least one.
We plan to clean out the house after we get back from Florida in April. I am not a keeper of stuff and I feel like I have way to much stuff. I need it to be gone.

I am a plant murderer. I can’t keep a plant alive to save my life so you did a lot better than I would. The only plants I might be able to keep are these bamboo plants they have in some stores. They are easy to take care of. I think the house is cursed because my grandmother could grow anything and now that I live here I can’t grow anything lol.

I hope you have a great week, Lola! Happy Reading! xx

    • This is the only good snow day we had so far this winter. I hope you still get a good snow day too. Same here, we kept so much stuff over the years and got even more and now I just everything we don’t need gone, but it’s such an effort to clean everything out.

I have some plants that are easy to take care off, but it seems I always mess up eventually. At least most stay alive for a while.

  3. Sorry about losing the plants – I hate it when that happens:(. I have an orchid that is about to flower that I’ve had now for five years… And no – I HATE the snow, but then I live in the UK where we are only set up for drizzle. Have a great week, Lola.

    • I am sad I lost those plants. Some plants do so well and others just don’t. That’s awesome your orchid is finally flowering! We don’t get much snow here either, usually only a few times each year.

  4. I’m glad you got some snow and were able to enjoy it! That’s always nice when you get a little and you can walk and play in it. I’m also purging my bookshelves and it’s been a great experience for me. I keep looking at my bookcase now and seeing books I love and want to read, instead of feeling weighed down by them.

    • It was a good snow day and I am glad we got to enjoy it, the day after that it already turned icy. It’s nice to remove the books I don’t want to keep anymore and knowing I can make someone else happy with it. And also seeing more books on my shelves that I love.

    • It’s a fun series so far, I hope you get around to reading it. And I hope you get some snow this year too! I am glad we had some snow.

  5. I brought my plants in when we had some freeze warnings and they are doing okay. I realized that I have tons of tropical plants outside but only one for inside the house. I plan to add some this spring. I have a green thumb and usually they do good inside or out. Sorry you lost yours. We don’t normally get snow here but sometimes freezing rain. Might get that Wednesday with the super cold front and rain coming through. I plan to hide indoors with a good book! Stay toasty and enjoy those new reads.

    • That’s nice you managed to safe your plants by bringing them inside. I think one of the plants I threw away was a tropical one and it doesn’t get warm enough for it here. It seems to really depend on the plants whether they do well or not.

Staying inside with a good book sounds like a good idea!

  6. Glad you got to enjoy a bit of snow! Sorry about your plants dying though. I know absolutely nothing about taking care of plants. That’s nice that you donated some books to Little Free Libraries! I’m glad you’re enjoying the Chaos Station series 🙂 And yay that you got an ARC of the next Annette Marie book! I decided to opt out for this series, it’s just not quite right for me, and I have too many other books, but I hope the next book is a great one!

    • It was fun to be able to enjoy the snow :). I do well with some plants and one of the ones I had to throw away did so well and then suddenly it didn’t.

I didn’t realize we had some free little libraries close by, so it was fun to donate some books there.

So far I am enjoying the next Annette Marie book. I quite like this series so far. I don’t have too many ARCs right now, so it was good timing.

    • It was a productive week. That sounds like a good plan to start cleaning up and throwing things away before you move, so you don’t have to do it all then. That’s awesome your daughter brought those orchids to love again, sounds like she really has a green thumb.
