sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a busy week. I mentioned we had a change in routine last week and luckily this week went a lot smoother already. The clock went an hour back last weekend here, which messed up my sleep a little bit. On Tuesday I went out for lunch with my mom. We had fun, talked a lot and ate some amazing bagels.

It was a good and busy week for work. I had a bookstagram blitz run this week, a cover reveal and the last bit of a blog tour. I put two new sign-up posts live for a cover reveal and a blog tour and sent out two media kits for events next week. I finished up my assistant work for October and already made a good start with November’s work.

Not much happened besides that. I tried out a new recipe that was a bit of a flop. I tweaked my recipe for overnight oats a bit and that’s great now. I also had a headache one day sadly. I did manage to finish 3 books this week and got a bunch of new books.

Books I read in October

Some stats

  • Amount of books read: 7 (same amount as September)
  • Favorite book: Fantasy of Freedom
  • Most read genre: Contemporary Romance (3 books)
  • Most read age category: Adult (3 books)
  • Authors I read most books from: none (only read 1 book by each author)
  • New to me authors: 1 (Lena Mae Hill) and some more from the Pets in Space anthology

A few more stats. This month I read 5 self published books and 2 from publishers (1 from HarperCollins and 1 from Berkley). I read 5 different genres this month, 3 Contemporary Romance books, 1 Science Fiction Romance, 1 Paranormal Romance, 1 Fantasy and 1 cozy mystery. All 7 of the book were full length. I had five 4 star reads and two 3 star reads. 4 of the books I read were books I received for review, 3 were books that I bought.
I read 1 paperback this month and the other 6 were ebooks that I read on my ipad. I read 5 books that took place in the US this month, 1 with multipel locations and 1 in a fantasy world.
I didn’t read any standalones this month, I read 2 series starters and 1 series ender (Fantasy of Freedom). I read 3 books were romance was a side plot and 4 books with romance as the main focus.

What did I read this week?

Christmas at Cade RanchShift of Shadow and SoulAnother One Bites the Crust

Christmas at Cade Ranch was a great read! It had a bit of Christmas cheer, great characters and a nice romance. Shift of Shadow and Soul was a good fantasy book and fit exactly what I was in the mood for. Another Bites the Crust was so much fun! It’s one of my favorite cozy mystery series and this was another great book in the series. There was a nice twist at the end and I guessed the murderer wrong.

What did I cook for dinner this week?

This week I blogged about:

Review: Masking for Trouble by Diane Vallere
Review: Night Spots by Tori Knightwood

What to expect next week on the blog:

– Review: Christmas at Cade Ranch by Karen Rock
– Review: Christmas at the Candied Apple Café – if I can finish this book in time

Etched in Tears and Falling for a Cowboy I got for Netgalley and both are series I already started. The other three books I bought. The Quiche and the Death I had pre-ordered in paperback. Seashells, Spells and Caramels and Black Arts, Tarts and Gypsy Carts were both 99c on Halloween and I’ve been curious about this series since I first heard of it, so I grabbed both books. I also got Heart of Time when it was 99c. I got Blood Oath for review from the author, cna’t wait to read this new series!

  1. Ew daylight savings. I’m so glad I don’t have to deal with clocks moving back and forward anymore (there’s a couple of states in Australia that don’t have it, and I’m lucky enough to live in one!)

I hope you enjoy your new books, The Quiche and the Dead looks interesting 🙂 a bit different to her other series I’ve read (I just had a look on goodreads, she has quite a few doesn’t she?!)

    • I think they are talking here about removing the daylight saving thing, so I hope they will decide to do that. It always throws me a week out of wack to adjust to the new time.

Yeah she has quite a bunch of series out already. I really liked the sound of this one, so I hope it’s good.

  2. Good that you are adjusting to the new schedule. I struggle with daylight savings time for a few days afterward, too.

Yay that your favorite cozy mystery series had another good one. The cowboy Christmas one does look good.

Bummer your new recipe was not cooperating with you.

I enjoyed the stats of your October reading. You mentioned indies and it made me wonder. I had to stop and count my own books. I read more indies than traditional publisher books this past month including Embrace the Romance.

Looks like you caught some good Halloween sales and some review books. I bought three audiobooks for $10 when they were on sale, too. All were mysteries that have been on my list forever, it seems.

Have a good November for business, cooking, and of course, reading. 🙂

    • I hope we stop with the whole daylight saving thing eventually as I hate how it messes up my schedule for a few days each time.

I am glad the cozy mystery was a good one. And the cowboy Christmas book too, I already got book 2 in that series too.

It’s been very insightful keeping track of my stats like this. I think I’ll keep doing this next year too. That’s great to hear you also read more indies :).

There sure were some good sales around this week. That’s nice you got three audiobooks this week when they were on sale.

    • It’s been fun reading some Christmas books already and they do help to get me into the Christmas mood. I hope you’ll enjoy the Christmas books you have lined up for the readathon :).

  3. I had signed up for the HoHoHo but my reading stinks the last few months so I might had to pass since my challenge is this week.

Our day light saving was last night but I actually prefer this time change than the one in the spring. 🙂

One of my goals next year is to read a cozy. I honestly think I will like them!

I hope you have a great week, Lola! Happy Reading! ox

    • That’s too bad you couldn’t participate in the readathon.

I also prefer this time change, but it still messes up my sleeping routine for a bit.

I think you would enjoy cozy mysteries. Let me know if you need some recommendations!

I have the same problem when the clocks go back for a few days, so I can relate. Yay to hanging out with mom for a little while to catch up. Being with family is always great. You’ve been pretty busy and I’m looking forward to your review on Christmas at the Cade Ranch! Hugs…RO

    • The covers for the whole series are so pretty! The first book in that series, Fantasy of Frost, is part of the Marked by Fate box set btw 😉

It was another great cozy mystery, that series is so much fun :).

    • It’s nice when your day has an extra hour too. I slept a bit later than usual and then put the clocks back and it was still early.

Those cozies sure have great titles often :). I hope I get the chance to read some of my new cozies soon.

    • Yes when you still have school to go to it’s even harder, the change in spring is usually worse than the fall one, but it still takes me a few days to adjust.

  5. Glad things went smoother 🙂 Clocks just went back an hour today here. Sorry about the recipe flop. I had the opposite happen last week—I had tried making teriyaki roasted veggies in the oven a couple times but it didn’t work, but then I tried it with different veggies and it finally worked the other night 😀 Have a great week this week 🙂

    • It’s great when you try a recipe and it turns out great, especially if you already tried the recipe a few times.

I had a success new recipe last week so I am not too sad about the flop this time, but it was a shame it wasn’t better.

    • I totally agree! I tried a new recipe last week that was a big hit, but sadly the new recipe this week flopped. It can go either way. And sometimes it needs a few tweaks before it’s correct. but with this flop recipe I had no clue how to make it better.
