sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a pretty nice week! Work was a bit quieter than the past few weeks, but there was still more than enough work to keep me busy. I put two new sign-up posts live this week for two book blitzes, I sent out four media kits for events starting next week and I did some hours of assistant work. I had a blog tour, book blitz and a cover reveal run this week.

I made some time for gaming and spent about half an hour to an hour each evening playing a game, which was fun. It was very warm this week which I wasn’t happy with, luckily since Thursday it cooled down a bit when we had a bit of a storm and I think it will stay a bit more moderate for now.

And I hit the 70% on netgalley this week. I fell back to 69% after requesting two books, but in my defense they were two books I was really curious about. It was nice to see I hit that 70% for the first time! Even though it was only for a little while.

I also had a good reading week, I finished a great book and my two current books are both really good to. I am still in my sci-fi book mood for now it seems. I wrote a review and recipe post for the blog.

Picture of the Week

Mashed-Potatoes-with-Carrots-and-Onion-close-up
This was dinner yesterday evening! It’s mashed potatoes with onion and carrots, with some “parneermeel”(breadcrumbs I think comes closest?) on top. And I finally wrote my recipe post for it as well and schedule it for next month :).

What did I read this week?

The Retreat

I only finished one book this week, but hey it was a really good one :). I decided to try Kelly St Clare’s other series as I really enjoyed the first two books in her fantasy series. The Retreat was a great YA dystopian read!

What did I cook for dinner this week?

  • Sunday: Mapo Tofu
  • Monday: Mawabi Paneer curry
  • Tuesday: leftover Mawabi Paneer curry
  • Wednesday: Cajun Pasta
  • Thursday: leftover Cajun Pasta
  • Friday: Tomato soup with french bread
  • Saturday: Mashed potatoes with carrots and onion

This week I blogged about:

Review: Missing by Kelley Armstrong
Review: Paper Cranes by Jordan Ford

What to expect next week on the blog:

– Review: His Accidental Heir by Joanne Rock
– Review: Fantasy of Flight by Kelly St Clare – 5 star!
– New Release Challenge 2017: 2nd quarterly recap

Book Haul:

Espresso and EvilDeath OverdueMurder on the Toy Town Express

I was dogin pretty well these last few weeks and I think this si the largest haul of new books I’ve had in a while. these were all three books I had on my to-read list already. espresso and Evil just released and I bought it for $0.9 as I enjoyed the series so far. Death Overdue and Murder on the Toy Town Express were both books published by Crooked Lane and were already on my to-read list, so when I saw them pop up on netgalley I had to request them and luckily got approved for both yay! The first Vintage Toy Shop series was one of the best cozies I read last year, so I am really excited to have my hands on the sequel!

Freebies I grabbed:

You can stop by my facebook post here to see some freebies and cheap/ discounted book I found last week. Here’s the Facebook post for next week.

  1. We have been also dealing with very high temperatures this last week – which I loved. But I’m very aware of just how miserable it is for those who find the heat just too much. Congratulations on hitting 70% on Netgalley – you may fall back a couple of times, but it won’t take too long before you’ll find yourself permanently there… Have a great week, Lola – and here is my Sunday Post – https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2017/06/25/sunday-post-25th-june-2017/

    • The heat was a bit too much for me, so I am glad it’s a bit cooler.

Yes that’s what I am thinking too :). Now that I am so close I can probably stay over that 70% in a few months.

    • I’ve been doing well with not requesting too many new books on Netgalley, so I can finally up my percentage a bit. But it also drops so fast again when you do request books.

  2. I’m glad you’ve had a nice week! 🙂
It’s been pretty warm here too this week, and I can’t say I’ve been enjoying it either. I don’t mind a bit of sunshine but when it starts to get all muggy and humid, it’s just too much for me! Thankfully it seems to have cooled down today.
I hope you have a good week and enjoy your books! 🙂

    • Here it often gets so humid when it’s warm and it was just a bit much for me. I am happy with the cooler weather we’re having now. I am sorry to hear you also had some pretty warm weather.

  3. Quiet weeks can be a nice thing to help you rest and have more energy for the busy ones. Yeah, the heat gets to me, as well. Yay on the really good reading week. I got Death Overdue when I saw it at Net Galley. My percentage has slipped a little b/c I picked up four books for the fall, but as you say, worth it when its what I want to read anyway. 🙂

    • It was nice to have a slightly less busy week :).

Yay! I am glad to hear you also got Death Overdue, it looks fun! I hope we both enjoy it. I didn’t mind my percentage falling because I really wanted these books, but I hope to get it back up to the 70% soon again.

  4. I’m with you about the heat. It’s definitely much better now it’s a little less hot!
I love that I was able to join you for some tours. I love it! 😉
The Retreat looks like a good read. I have to check it out!
Have a great week and happy reading.

    • I am really happy it is a bit cooler now 🙂

And thanks so much for joining some of my tours! I really appreciate it!

I think The Retreat is only $0.99 for a limited time if you want to give it a try :).

  5. Loving all the cozies in your pile. Good for you for spending time each night doing something you enjoy. Congrats on the 70%. It is hard not to head pick up more books. I am sitting at 99% and seven books to read, all publishing in the next three months. I tried to get to 100% but always end up accepting new books..lol I would love to see it hit the 100 mark just once!

    • They always have such fun covers! I think I might get a cozy mystery mood after my sci-fi mood.

Wow 99% that’s impressive! I can imagine that would be great to hit thee 100% mark once. I have a hard time getting my rating up as I requested a lot of books when I first joined netgalley and only now am getting better at requesting less, but sometimes I also just don’t get till the books till later.

  6. Oh, I can’t wait to hear what you think of STARFLIGHT. I believe I have that one in my TBR list. It sounds like a great book. It was really hot here this week. I’m sure you’ve seen the news that the Southwest of the US is boiling hot, and it was hot in Florida too. I’m glad to be back in NJ where the temperature is bearable. We’ll be at the pool this week! Your dinner sounds yummy. Mashed potatoes is a personal favorite of mine. I can never get sick of them.

    • So far Starflight is really good. I think you would enjoy it :). It has a bit of a YA Firefly feel, as they are all running from something and the crew has their secrets, but they grow close and risk their lives for each other.

Yes I some that it was hot in the US as well, must be nice that you’re back up in NJ instead of Florida.

I quite like mashed potatoes as well, especially when I can add something else to it or next to it :).

  7. That’s great that you made some time for gaming! And that you got to 70%! I’m not a big fan of mashed potatoes though, so I don’t know if I’d like that meal.

You may have only read one book, but at least you chose quality over quantity!

    • It was really fun to have some time for gaming this week. And it made me happy to hit that &0% even though I fell back to 69% now.

if you don’t like mashed potatoes you might not like this dish as that is the basis.

  8. It’s also been warm here and luckily we are getting cooler weather now. Congrats on reaching 70% on Netgalley. Mine has been going up and down because I keep adding ARCs but I also try to request books I really want to read. I hope you are liking Starflight. I plan to listen to the audiobook soon. I hope you have a great week!

    • I am really happy with the cooler weather.

My percentage keeps going up and down as well, which is why it was only at 70% for a little while.

Yes I am really enjoying Starflight so far,

    • I’ve been doing really well with NG requests lately, but I couldn’t resist getting these two new cozies this week.

  9. Glad the work is going well, and gaming time is always good! I need to carve out more time for gaming, I never play anymore. I’ve been wanting to try Rime.

I’m totally in sci fi mode lately too, and The Return looks quite good. Will be checking it out. I’m hoping to read a lot more SF this year.

    Death Overdue looks fun.
Greg recently posted…Sunday Post #200My Profile

    • I rarely make time for gaming either, I think I didn’t game at all the first 5 months of this year, so I am glad I am making some time for it now as I missed it.

The Retreat was really good and I am enjoying The Return so far. It’s a good series if you’re looking for a good sci-fi/ dystopian series. I think book 1 is/ was discounted to $0.99 for a limited time.

    • My goal for this year was to finally get at 70%, so I hope I can get back there and stay in the low seventies for a while.

Luckily we had some milder weather this week which was very welcome after last week.
