sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

Phew it was a busy week, but also a lot of fun. Just too bad it turned a bit stressful at the end. There were three tours running this week, three cover reveals taking place and I put a new cover reveal sign-up post live and did some marketing assistant work. And working on a new blog tour. Some minor issues I won’t talk about happened at the end of the week and some trouble with filling out my taxes, so sadly I am behind a bit with commenting. I’ll do my best to catch-up soon!

It was a great week for books, with two sequels I was eagerly waiting for arriving on netgalley and I requested and got accepted for both, thanks Kensington Books! The author gave me the next dolphin shifter book for review. And I got a review copy of the first book in a new series by an author I already know. The fifth Wilding pack Wolves books released and I grabbed it for 0.99$, so now have the whole series completely and haven’t even started the first book, but I am really excited to get started.

Saturday my mom and her husband visited. They helped me with my taxes for 2015. It’s always a bit of a pain to do the taxes and fill in everything correctly but I am glad they know more about it and can help me. Too bad we couldn’t figure out what we did wrong, probably a small mistake somewhere, so it’s still not sent out. I also baked an apple pie on Friday evening so my mom and her husband could eat a piece as well.

The combination of stress and lots of apples made this a week with lots of bakings. My boyfriend has decided to stop with his study as he just can’t make it and decided to try and see if he can do another course or class about translation so he can still get a certificate of some sort to prove he can translate. He also is working on an online course to freshen up his Japanese knowledge, so we’ll how that goes.

Random Picture(s) of the Week

Sweet-Ricotta-Pie
And I made another pie this week, so now I officially made my goal of making 4 pies this year :). I made a sweet ricotta pie. Thanks to Michelle from Because Reading is better Than Real Life for the recipe. It does need some tweaking next time, I did tweak the recipe a bit already, but the crust was a tad too hard and didn’t quite fit the pie. So I’ll have to find a different recipe for the crust next time and maybe add a bit more egg to the filling, we’ll see. It was fun to make it and it looked so happy with the sprinkles on top.

What did I cook for dinner this week?

Blurb:
He’s a hot fireman. She’s a cool scientist.
The wildfire between them is nothing short of magic.

Zoe Wilding is a genetic researcher with a secret she’d rather not have—she’s a white wolf—but with Agent Smith’s immorally-acquired experimental data on shifters, that may change. If she can just isolate the gene that expresses her dangerous white wolf, she’ll finally have a normal life. One that might include a man, if not a mate.

Then her lab blows up.

Troy Hartman is a firefighter and EMT who fought his way out of the shifter gangs as a kid. He’s been watching the Wilding family in the news as they battle the Wolf Hunter, and he’s been itching to join the cause. When the Wilding research facility gets firebombed, he’s first on the scene… and first to rescue a beautiful blue-eyed white wolf.

Only this is no ordinary shifter.

All five of the Wilding families have now been targeted by the Wolf Hunter, and the entire cadre of white wolves—Grace, Noah, Kaden, Owen, and now Zoe—have joined together to find him. Troy’s all-in with Daniel Wilding for the hunt, but the closer Troy gets to Zoe, the more his wolf wants her… only she’s hell-bent on destroying the magic inside her. Can he win over this gorgeous girl and get her to accept the beauty of her inner wolf… or will finding the Wolf Hunter destroy the wild fire inside the woman he’s starting to love?

WILD FIRE is a complete novel with HEA, the FIFTH AND FINAL in the Wilding Pack Wolves series. All stories are standalone, but for maximum reader enjoyment, start with the River Pack Wolves trilogy. Contains scorching hot shifters, alpha heroes, and sexy witches. Only readers over 18 should dive into the dangerously hot world of the Wilding Pack Wolves.

I’m Ivy Lane, and if I never see another faerie again, it’ll be too soon.

Twenty years after the faeries came and destroyed the world as we knew it, I use my specialist skills to keep rogue faeries in line and ensure humans and their magically gifted neighbours can coexist (relatively) peacefully.

Nobody knows those skills came from the darkest corner of Faerie itself.

When a human child disappears, replaced with a faerie changeling, I have to choose between taking the safe road or exposing my own history with the faeries to the seductively dangerous head of the Mage Lords. He’s the exact kind of distraction I don’t need, but it’s work with him or lose my chance to save the victims.

It’ll take all my skills to catch the kidnappers and stop Faerie’s dark denizens overrunning the city — but if the faerie lords find out about the magic I stole last time I went into their realm, running won’t save me this time…

Determined to restore the hard line, Conley can’t wait to show them how it’s done, facing down a greedy oil company in Long Beach. Until Conley meets his new partner…and finds his powers of persuasion need work.
First-time shifter Betty Brett can’t believe she finally made it into the male-centric field ops team. Since the first female agent was murdered, before Betty goes solo, she’ll spend four months teamed with an experienced operative. But did it have to be Conley? No matter how temptingly handsome he is, Betty refuses to take grief from a trigger-happy male and certainly not one whose knuckles drag the ground.
When the oil company resorts to violence protecting its illegal fracking operation, Conley finds himself out-gunned. Either he and Betty compromise, fast, or they’ll be dead before they can unravel the perplexing feelings they have for each other.

But the most popular destination for miles around can also invite trouble. Erica Shermer may be the widow of handsome local lawyer Jim Shermer’s brother, but she doesn’t appear to be in mourning. • The cover for Faerie Blood is so pretty! And the dogs on the Murder at the Mansion cover are cute indeed, i really enjoyed the first book, so i hope this one is just as good.

I dislike making bread, it takes so much time with how it has to rise and such, but I do love fresh bread. I really should make time to make read once.

  1. Sorry about the stress, but it sounds like you got some great books and had lots of good stuff going on too! And that pie with the sprinkles is so pretty! Now you’ve made me just really want something with sprinkles lol.

That Faerie Blood book sounds like something I might like, and I love the cover. Judging from the cover, it’s probably the same artist who did Ancient Magic, Soul Breaker, and a whole bunch of other covers I love. Hers always have that same bright, glowy look.

But anyway, good luck with your taxes and whatever else is stressing you out!

    • Yes luckily there were some good things about this week too. It really was a great week for books and I just got two more great ones.

And the sprinkles made the pie look so happy! Just need to tweak the recipe a bit when I make it next time.

I think you might enjoy that author her books. I am really curious about faerie Blood as it sounds so good. And the cover is great indeed! I wonder if it’s the same artist indeed, it does look like a similar style. I like the bright glowy style, it looks pretty!

My mom will probably visit next week again so we can finish up the taxes. It’s just so confusing and frustrating when we can’t figure it out. It took hours and still wasn’t done.

  2. Oh no! sorry to hear about the taxes Lola 🙁 I did miss you but no worries. 🙂 Glad you were able to have some apple pie therapy with mom though

I saw ALL your posts last week BUSY lady! good for you 🙂

You got me so intrigued with the dolphin shifter book! 🙂 I really can’t picture them LOL

Good luck to your BF on getting that translation certificate and with the Japanese course 🙂

    • I am sorry! I hope to get fully caught up by tomorrow or Tuesday again. The apple pie was really good!

Yes it was a busy week on and off the blog. It’s nice that I have the next few weeks almost completely scheduled already, so I don’t have to worry about my posts at least :).

The dolphin shifter series is pretty fun so far! I’ve only read the first two books so far, so I hope I can read the next two soon.

He ran into some trouble with his study unfortunately and didn’t got the help he needed there, so we think this will work better.

  3. I hope there will be less stress next week, Lola, and that you’ll get your taxes completely sorted out.
Hopefully, your boyfriend will find a way to get a paper that says he knows how to translate, without it taking too much time and energy!
Your new books look great, and I hope you’ll enjoy them.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

    • My mom took everything home to sort it out and will visit again next week so we can finish the taxes. It’s always a bit of a pain.

The annoying thing is that he can translate, but he needs a paper to prove it and the university where he did his study wasn’t really helping him. Some things didn’t go well, so he decided to stop and get his paper another way.

I am really happy with all my new books, it was a good week for books.

And thanks again for the giveaway! It made me happy when I saw your e-mail I won that gift card 🙂

  4. Sorry this was such a stressful week my friend! I hope things calm down for you next week. If you ever need to vent let me know I am always here to listen!

I think the crust needs to be more of a softer crust. I think that is why the frozen ones work or if you have pillsbury pie crust that will work also. Overall was it good? I actually enjoy making it since it’s so easy and very tasty.

I hope this week is a better one for you! Enjoy your new books! Happy Reading! ox

    • Thanks for the offer! I think next week will be a bit calmer, so that’s good.

We don’t have pillsbury pie crust here, sometimes it can be frustrating when i want to make a recipe and we don’t have the ingredients here. I’ve only seen one premade pie crust so far and that one was hard, cookie like and not frozen, so I don’t think that will work. I’ll have to see if I can find a better crust recipe online as this crust clashed with the soft filling. And the filling was a bit crumbly, but that might’ve been my mistake? Or maybe it’s supposed to be like that? I had expected a more cheesecake like texture. It was tasty and looked very festive.

I am very excited about my new books and I hope I can make time to read them soon!

  5. I hope you have a less stressful week ahead. I hope your boyfriend figures things out. I’m sure it will all workout in the end. I’m sure you’ll love your book haul. I actually have three books from NetGalley right now. I’ve never had so many NetGalley books my queue. I’m about 15% in the first one now. Happy Sunday.

    • I am sure it will work out in the end, it just will take some time. I am glad he made this decision as the study thing just wasn’t working out and I think this will be better for him.

I still have about 30 netgalley books to read I think. I don’t dare and look, lol. But I will read them eventually, it just takes some time.

    • I really enjoyed the first book in the series, so I hope this one is just as good! I hope we can get the taxes figured out next week.

  6. It was quite a week! I’m sure you were stressed out with everything going on, but at least the tours are over and some of the stuff is done, so hopefully next week will be a little better. Hugs! You deserve a little break.

That pie looks so fun! I’ve never seen one with sprinkles on top like that. I would love to try it, so I’m hoping you’ll share the recipe. 🙂

I hope things work out for your boyfriend! Sounds like his life is pretty stressful too. 🙁

    • The tours are almost the least stressful part of my week, at least most of that went well. I am really happy with how the Daydreamer Detective tour went and how everyone posted.

I’ll have to tweak it a bit before I can share the recipe. A fellow blogger gave me the recipe, but she uses frozen pie crust that they don’t sell here, so I had to improvise. The sprinkles were a great addition and made the pie look so festive.

Yeah things with his study didn’t work out quite as well, he didn’t have enough knowledge, but still got accepted and then they messed some things up and when he asked for guidance he didn’t get t. It was quite frustrating, I hope he can find another course to do to still get a certificate of some sort.

    • I really like the cover for Faerie Blood :). And I hope we can get the taxes sorted next week. It took a lot of time and it still didn’t work and I am just stressing a bit over it, but I hope it will be solved next week.

  7. I’m sorry you had a stressful end of the week — hope this one goes better, and that you get your taxes sorted. The pie looks delicious even if you do need to tweak a bit as you adapt it to your oven and so forth. Good luck to your boyfriend as he works toward his certification. And your cozies look good, especially Murder at the Mansion. I haven’t tried either of those series yet.

I really enjoyed the first books in those two cozy series, so I was so excited to get approved for the sequels!

  8. Taxes suck, hopefully you’ll have those sorted without too much more trouble. And Faerie Blood looks really good… sounds like you’ve been very busy! Hopefully this week is less stress and lots of good reading! 🙂 The pie looks good too!

    • I hope we can get the taxes sorted this week, it stresses me a bit. I really like the cover for Faerie Blood! And it sounds good to :), I hope I can read it soon.

  9. That pie looks yummy and it’s fun that you got the recipe from Michelle. I’ll have to try to bake a pie for our next family party. We usually have cupcakes so it would be a nice change to bring a pie.

Sorry to hear you had a stressful week but hopefully everything worked out. You have a lot of great new books and the dolphin series sounds interesting. I’ll have to check it out.

    Have a great week Lola!

    • I like eating pies, but they can be a tad difficult to make. I am glad she shared her recipe with me, but they don’t sell the crust here that she used sadly :(. And cupcakes are yummy too!

I hope things will all work out, it’s just a bit much at once at the moment. The dolphin series is great, I have to read the latest two books soon!

    • A good crust can really make a difference. I really like the apple pie crust recipe that used for this one, but it got baked a bit too much and didn’t go as well with the filling sadly.

    • The sprinkles on top really gave the pie a festive feel! I hope we can get the taxes sorted, it’s so confusing. Luckily my mom and her husband know a lot about it, so when they look at it with a fresh head I hope they can find out where we made a mistake.

  10. I hope you get your taxes figured out. I worked on mine last week as well. Ugh! Not the most fun thing to do. :/ I love that you baked pies to work out your stress though. I bet my family would like it if I baked when I am stressed. At least you were very productive AND you picked up some great looking books! I’m giggling over you have the entire Wilding Pack Wolves series and haven’t read a single one of them yet. That’s something you and I have in common. 😉 I hope you have a great week, Lola!!

    • Taxes are always so frustrating, the quarterly ones go well now and I can do those alone, but the yearly ones are so complicated. We know we made a mistake somewhere, but we had been at it for so long we didn’t see clearly anymore. So I hope next week with a clear head we can fix it.

The baking and then eating always helps alleviates my stress a bit and even better if it’s a dough like apple pie crust that I can knead ;).

It’s unlike me to grab the whole series and not having started it yet, I usually can’t afford to do that. But in my defense I had an amazon gift card and the whole series was discounted until the final book was released and then the final book was discounted for release day. And for 0.99$ for each book I just couldn’t resist grabbing them.
