sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a hard week. On monday Smarties went for surgery, which went fine luckily. And we lost our little Pita, on monday we decided to put her to sleep. I miss her terrible, but I am happy we made the descision as it was the right thing to do, she was so sick and she’s in a better place now. Then monday evening I got sick, it started with a sore throat and got worse in the next days. I think I catched a cold or something, probably because of all the stress lower my immune system, so I haven’t been as active online this week because of that. And grocery shopping on friday wa shorrible, with me being sick and someone stole my shopping cart, luckily I found it back later. I finished this month’s marketing assistant work, but this has been a bit of a slow week in terms of work.

Sunday Pita’s health took a turn for the worse while saturday morning she had been happily eating, although not easy she did eat, but saturday evening and the whole of sunday she refused to eat at all and all she did was sit and sleep and her teeth where chattering. She couldn’t eat, drink, walk or clean herself and she seemed in pain. Then sunday she also started to have poryphne around her nose, which is basically red coloured rat snot and usually another sign that somethings wrong. So sunday evening we decided it was best if we put her to sleep. Monday morning I brought Smarties to the vet for her surgery to remove her tumor and made the appointment to visit with Pita that same day. Then later that day I returned to the vet with Pita and I held her while the vet injected her, which sounds a bit creepy, but it was a very touching moment. Ofcourse I was crying, but I am happy I was there for her in her last moment and could hold her while she passed away. Then I got to take Smarties home and after some more crying I spent some time cuddling with Smarties and Snickers. It was a very stressful day, but I do feel sort of relieved that Pita doesn’t have to suffer anymore.

Smarties her surgery went really well and she was running around the moment she got from the cage. She’s drinking well and also ate a bit, although she prefers the yummies. She ate all her meds easily, just licking them from the syringe and I can also let her drink water through the syringe, which is very handy to ensure she drinks enough. Her wound looks really nice and she’s recovering nicely. Every day she can have an hour social time, where she can interact with Snickers on the couch under supervision, so they don’t tear Smarties her stitches. It’s so sad to see Snickers being all lonely in that big cage.

On Tuesday I did a big cage clean, changing also the bedding in the lower half of the cage which I don’t do often. When Skittles passed away I also did a big cage clena, so I did one again now. And then I put lots of clean bedding back into the cage and hammocks, I put some things in the cage specifically for Snickers as she’s the only one in there now. I also put one of Pita’s hammocks in there as a sort of memorial for her. It’s this simple square hammock which Pita always loved, but the other rats not as much, so we named it after her. I also ordered some new bedding and hammocks for the rats, it felt soothing to spend a lot of time with Snickers and Smarties and care for them.

Also I want to thank you all for all the well wishes and good lucks for Pita in these past few weeks, your loving and caring comments really helped and I am happy to know so many wonderfull people who know how important our pets are to us.

On a more happy note, a while ago I wrote a guest post for Oops I Read a Book Again as part of her Under the Radar Friday Feature. I talk about five books that I loved that are I think are under the radar and deserve more attention. And there’s an awesome giveaway where you can win some of the books I mentioned! So make sure to check it out.

Daisy Savage finally has everything she wants. A new husband. A bunch of kids. A charming old house.

What she doesn’t want is a dead body.

When a frozen pipe in the basement of her century-old home leads her and her husband downstairs into a newly discovered crawl space, they find a coal chute they didn’t know they had. And a corpse inside of it.

Things become complicated when Daisy realizes she knew the victim. And things get even worse when it becomes increasingly clear that the body was placed there to make Daisy look like the killer.

Against her husband’s advice and her own common sense, Daisy makes it her mission to prove to the denizens of Moose River that she is innocent. But doing so may be more dangerous than she planned.

  1. I’m so sorry about your bad news-what an awful week you must have had. People who don’t have pets don’t understand how important they are, how they are part of your family…your babies. I had to stop having pets because I couldn’t cope when I lost them due to my ongoing fight with depression so I’ve adopted my neighbour’s greyhound and make a fuss over him instead *smiles* I hope that Smarties is going to be ok and recovers well.

    • Thanks! It’s great to have met people here on the internet who understand that our pets are indeed part of our family and we care about them deeply. My mom doesn’t understand, she’t not an animal person at all and it’s hard when she’s making these comments when she’s trying to care, but instead she’s saying hurtfull things. I am happy you can fuss over your neighbour’s greyhound, it’s nice that you still interact with a pet like that :).

    • Thanks! I really hope next week is better, as this week al the bad things seemed to come at once. I am spending a lot of time with Snickers and Smarties and it’s great to see them so alive and doing well.

    • Thanks! It’s hard to lose a pet, but I am happy she doesn’t have to suffer anymore. I am really happy Smarties is doing so well, I am giving her lots of attention and her wound looks really nice.

    • I am sick of being sick, I don’t get sick often, but this cold hit me hard. I’ve been feeling bad since Monday afternoon and am still not feeling much better. I think I pushed myself a bit too hard the past few weeks, combined with the worrying about Pita my immune system must have decided to take a vacation.

    • Thanks! Pita just kept getting worse and we didn’t want her to suffer anymore, but it’s still hard to lose her. It’s great seeing Smarties doing so well after her surgery, I am giving her lots of hugs, apreciating that I still have her and Snickers.

  2. I cry too when I have to take a pet in to be put to sleep and the cleaning ritual is something I do too. It hurts and you have my sympathies. Glad Miss Smarties did well after her surgery.

Hope you feel better now. We have sinus infections going around here now that its starting to warm up.

Looking forward to what you have for us this week. πŸ˜‰

    • That’s interesting to hear you also do the cleaning ritual. Somehow I always feel the ruge to do that after one of our pets passed away. It hurt to lose her. I am spending lots of time with the other two rats and that helps a bit.

I am still a bit sick, but I think I am on the way to recovery.

    • Thanks Laura! It felt like the right thing to do to hold her while she went to sleep.

And if you see Smarties you can hardly believe she went to surgery, she’s doing really well, although we still have to be bit carefull with her wound.

    • Thanks! I know we did the right thing, we tried everything we could and it just wasn’t humane to have her suffer any longer. It hurts for those who stay behind though, I know she’s in a better place.
I am hoping to take some more time for myself this week and hopefully get my immune system back up again.

  3. I am so sorry to hear about Pita. Glad to hear Smarties surgery went well, I hope for a speedy recovery for her. I hope this week is all calm and feeling better for you and Smarites.
It is really cool that you picked Fire Country as a great under the radae book. I won that book a while ago and then kinda forgot about it. I am gonna add it to my growing TBR list.
    Happy Reading!

    • Thanks! It almost seems like Smarties didn’t even realize she got to surgery, she’s running around and being as active as always. I hope for a calm week!
I hope you give Fire Country a dtry! I really enjoyed that book and even though David Estes is one of the more popular indie authors, I still think he should be more popular. He’s a great author!

  4. Aw, it sounds like you definitely had a rough week Lola! So sorry to hear about your sickness and having to put Pita down. I think it’s great that you were there during the last moment though. It would be incredibly hard to be there for that, but I do think pets appreciate it more.

I hope this week is so much better for you. Feel better and have lots of cuddles!

    • Thanks for stopping by! It was hard to hold her during her last moment, but it was also nice both for me and her. It just felt like the right thing to do. It wasn’t as painfull to see as with Skittles, the last rat we lost. Pita was so sick she almost didn’t react when the needle enterd her skin and she just lay there quietly while she died.

  5. Aww, I am so, so sorry about Pita. My heart just breaks for you both. You are a wonderful pet momma though, and I am sure Pita was so thankful to have you there for the last moments. And I am so glad that Smarties is doing well though! I am sure it’s bittersweet, but hopefully she will be feeling better very soon. I will be thinking of you, big hugs <3

    • Thanks Shannon! It’s bittersweet indeed, it’s so hard to lose one of them, every time I see a picture of Pita or get reminded of her, it’s hard. It feels like I appreciate the time I still have with Smarties and Snickers even more, giving them lots of cuddles and hoping they stay healthy for a long while.

    • I am feeling a bit better now. I know we did the right thign for Pita, so that helps a bit. I hope later you can have soem pets of your own, they are a joy to have around you.

  6. Awww, Lola πŸ™ My heart goes out to you. I was reading your entry and felt like crying. It’s so hard to say goodbye to the pets we love, but you’re right, the most important thing is she’s in a better place now and away from the pain and suffering. I don’t even want to imagine the day I’ll have to put my beloved dogs to sleep because of old age or future health complications. Just the thought of it makes me want to cry. *hugs you*

    • I am sorry I made you feel like crying :(. Saying goodbye is hard and I am happy I was able to spend some time with her before she passed. I keep reminding myself she’s in a better place now and that it’s better for her, eve though it’s hard for me.
I hope your dogs will stay healthy and you get to enjoy their company for a long time to go!

  7. Sorry about Pita, but I am glad that Smartie is doing better after surgery. I picked up that freebie book that you got as well. πŸ™‚

    • Yeah it’s hard everytime, we lost one of our rats Skittles about half a year ago and I still miss her, it never goes away, it just get’s a bit easier to deal with. Things just feel off without Pita around :(.

    • Thanks Trish! It’s been hard to lose her and I am glad we where able to have al this time with her and gave her a nice life.

  8. I’m so, so sorry to hear about Pita, Lola. I know how difficult it is to lose a pet – they’re really members of the family. I’m sending warm thoughts your way. I am glad that Smarties’ surgery went well. And I hope you’re feeling better. It was a hard week for you and I hope this one has been better. πŸ™‚ *warm hugs*

    • This week has been better, thank you! And indeed pets really are part of our family and it’s hard to loose one of them. We put Smarties back into the cage today and she and Snickers seem really happy to be together again, it’s been a hard few weeks for them as well.
