sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

All in all this was a nice and busy week. Lots of researching about Pita and older rats, but more about that later. The beginning of the week was a bit slow for Lola’s Blog Tours, but I did book an ad on a blog for next month. If anyone knows of book bloggers who do ads on their blog, please let me know so I can check them out! I have done some ads last year and I like this way of promoting Lola’s Blog Tours and giving my money to awesome book bloggers instead of people I don’t know.
Later in the week some new tour e-mails came in, so I am still working out some details about that and there’s one new tour open for sign-up.

Pita seems to have recovered from her abcesses, but she is still very weak and has trouble eating and drinking. Basically she can’t hold herself up anymore and can’t hold food in her paws. After some research online I came to the idea that maybe she isn’t sick at all, but she’s just getting old. She will be 2 years old in April and it seems that from 20 months already rats can start having trouble with weakness. Rats usually get 2 – 3 years old. Luckily there are adjustments we can make to her cage and give her different food so she can still eat and hopefully with those ajdustments we can enjoy her company for a few more months at least! I found lots of great ideas online concerning food to give her, so we’re going to try some of those this month. When rats get older you have to be less carefull with what you feed them as making sure they eat at all is more important. I already made purreed nuts for her this week, which she seemed to like. I put the hammocks in their cage in such a way that she can never fall too far and each day she spends the day in the cage, although she usually stays on the floor. At night she sleeps in the small carrier cage, but I am happy she can at least spend the days with the other two rats. The other rats don’t pay her much attention, but it’s still important she socializes enough and doesn’t get lonely. While grocery shopping on friday I bought some baby food her, so I hope she likes that.

Friday before grocery shopping my boyfriend and I went to the market next to the shopping center, it’s always fun to walk over the market. We bought soem Kibbeling for lunch and ate it next to the fish stand. After that we bought some croissants as well, they sell 4 croissants for 1 euro, which is ridiclously cheap. My boyfriend also got some goat cheese with honey and thym.

Then Friday evening I tripped over my sisters cat, it run in front of my leg while I was standing up and I fell on the floor and hurt some muscles in the process. I didn’t see the cat for the rest of the evening, lol, I think I scared her as well. Luckily after a night of sleep I felt better again, but that cat gave me quite a scare. Also reminds me about why I prefer rats as they don’t walk into your way.

WinterCoyer
Finished my eleventh book for Coyer this week and my first 3 star book of the year and make that also my least favourite book of the year so far. I was really looking forward to Owl and the Japanese Circus, but it just didn’t work for me. Then I started my twelfth book Legacy Human by Susan Kaye Quinn and read the first 45% in one sitting as it was so good I couldn’t put it down. I finished it two days later and it’s the first 5 star book this year! I also finished my thirteenth book, so I am feeling really pleased about reading so much books for Coyer, hopefully I can read two more books this week.

What did I cook for dinner this week?

  • Sunday: Dinner at my boyfriend’s parents – spanish tortilla and tiramisu

On an alternative 21st-century Earth in which our world is one of many in the Multiverse, the Inter-World Alliance exists to keep the peace between the worlds, and keep the monsters out.

Ada Fletcher is twenty-one, keeps a collection of knives in her room, and is more interested in fighting than her day job as a cashier. She also risks her life on a daily basis, helping refugees from a devastating magical war on her homeworld hide on the low-magic Earth. But when she’s taken into custody by the Alliance, her unusual magic makes her a prime suspect for a supervisor’s suspicious death.

For Kay Walker, whose family founded the organization, there has never been any doubt that his future is with the Alliance – even if it means dealing with sarcastic centaurs and dangerous monsters in the dark Passages between worlds. But when his supervisor is murdered, Kay discovers that a research project might have been the reason, and faces the choice of whether to ignore his instincts or risk becoming the next target, not to mention digging into the Alliance’s history and memories he’d rather keep buried. And there’s something not quite right about the strange, fierce girl he arrested as a suspect.

The last thing Ada wants is to help the infuriating Alliance guard who arrested her, but it soon becomes clear that the Alliance knows too much about Ada’s offworld origins. More, in fact, than she knows herself. Now she has to choose between loyalty to her family, and helping the Alliance save the Earth – and the Multiverse – from a deadly enemy.

Except Shelley hasn’t called. Hasn’t come by. Didn’t even bother to join her son and his girlfriend for Ethan’s annual I’m-a-year-older breakfast.

What Ethan doesn’t know is that Shelley has plans. Plans that have been in progress for weeks. Ones that Ethan will never see coming, and that she’s banked on him not knowing a thing about.

  1. For some reason cats seem to love me yet I really don’t like the things. I’m forever chasing them out of my garden and covering up their toilet deposits in my flowerbeds. It drives me nuts. On the cuter side of things Button the Bear is so gorgeous! Enjoy your books!

    • My boyfriend’s parent have a really sweet cat, but my sister’s cat seems to like me one moment and then the next she’s walking in front of my legs constantly. After that incident I almost tripped over her again this morning, we were both walking to the kitchen when she abrubtly stopped to scratch herself, while I almost tripped over her. It’s almost like she’s doing it on purpose.
And isn’t Button the cutest? I just started the book this mornign and the bear cub already made an appearance, he’s so cute!

    • Her whole Shifter series is Adult, although that one is more Urban Fantasy. She is self puslishing the wildcats series which is a spinn-off from ther shifter series, but more focussed on the romance.
I don’t think Pita will ever reciver as she’s just getting old and things like having difficulties holding her food are apperantly normal for rats when they get older.

  2. I didn’t know you did blog tours. I accept ads on my site, not sure if my blog is big enough for ya. You got some great books this week. I have the first 2 David Estes books, I won them last month but haven’t had a chance to read them yet. I hope Pita gets better, I didn’t know you had rats. That is pretty cool!

    • I started my blog tour business about a year and a half ago and I love it! I’ll check out your site concernign the ads, the ads are mostly to reach new audiences when it comes to both bloggers and authors. I looked into doing google ads, but those can get proicey really fast.
Rats are great pets, they are almost two years old now, so they are getting a bit older. Smarties and Snickers are strill very active, while with Pita you really notice she is gettign old after those three abcesses she had. They are all geting more cuddly now, so that’s nice.

  3. I love all the extras in your kitchen this week 🙂 I was craving brownies yesterday! If only I were closer to the Netherlands. Sorry to hear about Pita. I’m sure she is living a very happy life with you with all the fun hammocks and good food. What a sweet little thing.

    • I couldn’t stop baking this week and I am craving brownies again, maybe I’ll make some tonight, I still have to take pictures so I can do a recipe post about them. Wish I could send you some brownies.
Pita needs a bit more care nowadays, but I am happy she’s still hanging in there. This week we’ll be testing out some more foods to see what she’ll eat and what not, she can be bit picky sometimes.

  4. I haven’t seen any of your new books before. Yippee! Off to check them out.
I was going to ask you how old Pita was. My sister had rats and it came to me that she might be getting to her senior years. You are awesome to do so much to make her comfortable as she can be.
When my sister passed away I inherited her cat and she has tripped me up so many times. Now I know why my sister shuffled her feet instead of picking them up when she walked. LOL Glad you didn’t seriously hurt yourself:)

    • They are all books I am really looking forward to! It’s a nice haul this week :).

These are our first rats and we never realized she might be getting to her senior years untill I did soem research this week. It takes some adapting, but I hope she’ll be comfortable. Rats can get to their senior years as early as 20 months already so it’s isn’t too unusual that Pita is showing signs of aging now.

Shuffling your feet is a good practice when living with cats. I never really tripped over her before, she did gave me scare a few times, but never like this. I smashed into the ground, but at least I didn’t hurt anything seriously.

    • I am trying to read more historical romances this year, so when I saw that cover I just knew I had to read it. It’s an original pose indeed and that yellow dress looks pretty.

  5. Cats can be sneaky little buggers, Mine is always under my feel, the dog too. I am glad you are feeling better.

I hope Pita is doing better with the new food, rats are like hamsters and don’t live as long as we would like them too but I do hope she gets better for you.

I wasn’t home yesterday to check out all the TBR reviews, going to do that today.

Have a great week Lola! Happy Reading!

    • I said something and was going to get one of our rats out of the cage and the cat reacted to my voice and ran over to me, right the moment I stood up and then I tumbled to the floor. They are sneaky little buggers indeed.

It’s hard trying to figure out what foods she likes, but we’ll get there hopefully. One day she looks fine and the other she looks bad. I hope she get’s throguh this and the new food helps. Rats don’t like that long unfortunately, but that makes every moment spend with them even more special.

  6. Nice busy week for you and glad you got another tour booked and figured out Pita. I’ve been learning a lot about rats at Mary Kirkland’s Dark Thoughts blog. Changing cage arrangements, food and giving lots of snuggles seems to be the thing like you figured out.

Look forward to seeing what you think of your new books. Have a good week, Lola!

    • Yeah it was a nice week. I hope we figure out some foods that Pita likes soon, she didn’t like the mashed potatoes I made yesterday, but she seemd to enjoy the mashed apples I made today. There’s a lot to know about rats and how to care for them, I am glad I read a bit about senior rats now, so I know better how to care for Pita.
Lola recently posted…Sunday Post #115My Profile

    • Thanks Stormi, I hope so too. One day she seems to be doing fine and the next day she looks really bad, so we might take her to the vet this week to see what he says and what more we can do for her.

    • I had the release date of Lion’s Share marked in my calendar as I knew I had to get it on release date.

We’re going to the vet with Pita this week as I am worried about her and I am not sure whether it’s just being old or something else. And we’re wondering how well this life is for her. She keeps tumbling off things, she has fallen on the floor 4 times this week alone and we’re being carefull with her. She does eat a bit, but she’s extremely picky and still not eatign and drinkign enough :(.
