Last year I set some loose goals to guide me what I wanted to focus on that year, for this year I decided to do this again and share these goals on my blog as well. These are mostly guidelines, but I don’t really mind if I don’t reach the exact number set out in these as long as I come close.
Reading Goals for 2025
- Read 10 Non-fiction Books. I made my goal to read more non-fiction in 2024 and wanted to continue that goal. 10 non-fiction books is a bit less than one a month so that seems doable. I read 15 non-fiction books in 2024.
- Read 8 Cozy Fantasy Books. I love the cozy fantasy genre and want to read more books in the genre in 2025. I already finished my first book for this goal.
- Read 4 Books that are Re-reads. I enjoyed doing more re-reading in 2024 and want to keep that up. I think 4 felt like a reasonable goal as I did 6 re-reads in 2024. I am already in the middle of a re-read currently so that will count for this goal.
- Read 20 Books by new-to-me authors. I like trying new to me authors and usually read a lot of new authors, so I went with an optimistic goal of 20 for this. I think I stopped tracking my 2024 goal for this after I hit 23 a bit past halfway through the year, so this seems doable.
- Read 4 Books with a f/f romance. I don’t read as many f/f romance so I want to keep making an effort to fit some of those in. I read 8 books with an f/f romance in 2024 so setting a goal for 4 for this year should be doable hopefully.
- Read 4 books with non-binary characters. Another goal I did last year and want to keep going. I like to try and read 4 books with non-binary characters, ideally with them being the main character or love interest.
- Read 6 Books with Autistic Characters. I like reading books with autistic characters and want to make sure I read some of those each year. I read 7 books with autistic characters in 2024, you can see which ones those were here
- Read 8 Books that are review copies I got in 2024. There were a bunch of review copies from 2024 I didn’t get to, I think around 20 or so. I hope to get a bunch of those read this year instead, I would like to get to them al, but set the goal for 8 as that seems doable at least. I even made this list of 8 fiction review copies from 2024 I didn’t get to in 2024.
- Read 4 Books that I got for free. I don’t read a lot of books that I got for free, not counting review copies, so I want to try and read a few of those in 2025.
- Don’t request too many review copies. And this one I am keeping vague as I don’t know what too many is, but I don’t want to end 2025 and again didn’t get to a lot of review copies. I also want to read more non-review copies. So we’ll see how this goes. I want to make an effort to at least think twice when requesting or accepting a review copy and make sure I really want it and get to it soon. This mostly applies to fiction ebooks review copies as I can use more audiobook review copies and some non-fiction ebook review copies.
Specific Book or Series Goals
- Continue the St Marin’s Series by ACF Bookens. I really like this series and want to get caught up with it. I’ve read the first 6 books so far and there are 11 books in the series currently, so plenty more to read.
- Start the Motts Cold Case Mystery series by Dahlia Donovan. I really like the way this author writes autistic characters and haven’t read this series. I managed to get the whole series in an end of 2024 sale, so I hope to at least start it this year.
- Get caught up with the Secret, Book, and Scone Society Series by Ellery Adams. I’ve listened to the first 4 books in 2024 and just finished book 5, so I already made progress to this goal. There are currently 7 books. I really like this series and hope to listen to books 6 and 7 this year as well. I already bought both books, so I am all set to go.
- Listen to Banshees & Boba by Nia Quinn. The author just announced this book is coming soon and it’s the first book in a new series. The other two books by this author made favorites list in 2023 and 2024, so I am really excited for this one.
- Read at least 1 RJ Blain book. I read RJ Blain’s stories in the Pets in Space anthologies so far and want to read one of her books outside of those. I bought 3 series starters in different series and hope to at least one of those. Her pen names count for this.
- Continue the Parisian Ghosts series by Janna Ruth. I read the first 3 books in this series and it’s so good! I have bought books 4 and 5 already and book 6 releases later this year and I think there might be more books in the series after that. I hope to continue the series this year.
Wow! What a list and so detailed. That is a lot of goals, but I feel you’ll reach it. My main goal is to read more TBR books and freebies I picked up. I’m participating in the Library Love Challenge, Audiobook Challenge, and a new to me challenge the TBR Challenge. I’ve been in a reading slump, so I’m trying to kick it and change things around for 2025. Good Luck!
I sure I hope I reach most of these goals or at least come close :). I also like to read more freebies, which is why I made that one of my goals, but I set that number low as I am not sure how many I’ll get to. I hope you can kick your reading slump soon. Good luck with your challenges!
Good luck with your goals. I only have one goal on Goodreads to read 100 books this year.
I also set a Goodreads goal, for 120 books I think. Good luck with your goal!
Goodluck with your goals. I planning to do several reading challenges.
Good luck with your reading challenges 🙂
This sounds like some really good goals! I need to try to read more NF. I already ready one f/f romance, and I don’t usually read those, and I’ve got another coming up this week. Good luck with all your goals!

I wanted to try and get specific with my goals so I knew what I wanted to read and read more of. I haven’t gotten any f/f romances in this year yet, but I did just finish one with a non-binary character. Nice you already got a f/f romance and have another one coming up.
Looks like you’ve created a good balance between challenge and enjoyment for your reading goals and lists. I’ll be cheering you on. 🙂
Thanks :). I hope I can reach all of these goals!
I’m so impressed with your goals. That said, once I’d sorted out my reading stats for 2024, I was a bit shocked to realise that I was in the middle of 117 series and only managed to finish a very small number of those during the year. So I’ve made a separate list of all the series I’d like to continue during this year. Let’s hope we both achieve our goals:)).
Just like you I have a tendency to start a lot of series and I want to try and continue/ finish at least a few of those. So it felt good to set some specific goals for those. Good luck with your goals and the series you like to continue!
