Lola’s Kitchen is a feature on Lola’s Reviews where I talk about all things related to food, cooking and baking. These posts can be recipe posts, tens list posts about food or recipes or more discussion type posts about food. I love cooking and spend some time in the kitchen almost every day, so I wanted to give it a place on my blog as well. The banner for this feature is designed by Michelle from Limabean Designs.

I want to try something new with Lola’s Kitchen posts, I want to do a top ten or top five list now and then. With a foodie topic like this one and then list 5 or 10 different recipes with a common ingredient or somehow grouped together. I thought this would be a fun way to bring some variation in my Lola’s Kitchen posts and to feature older recipes I like again now and then. And to give you a few different ideas. I hope you like these posts! Today I am talking about wraps, I really like wraps as they are tasty and it makes for an easy way to eat the food. So recently I’ve been trying out more recipes with wraps, if you have a good idea that I haven’t listed here, please let me know in the comments. I am always looking for a new wrap recipe!

5 Ways to Eat Tortilla Wraps

  • Wraps with Indian Cauliflower Mash. One of my favourite ways to eat Indian Cauliflower Mash is to eat them with wraps. We used to eat with naan or other bread, but it’s even better with wraps. Not sure why, but it works great. Just prepare the Indian Cauliflower Mash like it says in the recipe post and then heat up a wraps and scoop a few big spoons on top of it. Add a bit of salt on top and roll the wrap up. It also is good with a sauce like ketchup or curry spiced ketchup spread as a thin layer on the wrap first and then put the Indian Cauliflower Mash on top.
  • Wraps with Curry Sauce. One of my favourite dishes involving wraps is my Wraps with Curry and Rice Recipe. It involves a curry sauce and rice put on tortilla wraps. I like the combination of rice and sauce on wraps. Instead of the curry sauce I use in that recipe, you can also make your own curry sauce or use leftover curry from another day.
  • Wraps with Pasta Sauce. Here in our grocery store they sell something that’s marketed as pizza wraps. They have a slightly different texture than normal wraps and you can use them in case of pizza dough. Or in our case we often put pasta sauce on top and then roll then like normal wraps. I am sure this would work with normal wraps as well. Just make your favourite pasts sauce, heat up some wraps and put the pasts sauce on top of the wraps and roll them up. You can make your own favourite pasta sauce or Tomato Sauce, Creamy Spinach pasta Sauce or Veggies in Chili Sauce.
  • Breakfast/ Lunch Wraps. Wraps can also be eaten as breakfast or lunch, when I shared one of my previous wraps recipes, lots of people recommended putting egg on wraps, you can use scrambled egg or bake an egg. I recently made an egg wrap for my boyfriend and he said it was really good. I also have made wraps with ham and cheese for my boyfriend, eater cold or warm. Or put your favourite lunch salad or filling on top of a wrap.
  • Sweet wraps. I know wraps are usually eaten with savory ingredients, but one day we came up with the idea to put hazelnut paste on our wraps and it’s delicious! Just heat up the wrap a bit and then put hazelnut paste on top of it. It’s really easy to make a good way to use leftover wraps. It’s a great snack! A few other ideas for sweet wraps are: butter with sugar, peanut butter and hazelnut paste or custard.

How to Roll wraps

I usually roll my wraps in the following ways:

  1. Put your wrap down flat on a plate.
  2. Pu the filling in a straight line in the middle. Don’t put the filing till the edges, but stop slightly before that.
  3. Then roll the bottom of the wrap inside.
  4. Then roll one of the sides to the middle and tuck it around the filling.
  5. Then roll the other side over the wrap.
  6. Pick it up in your hands and squeeze into a bit so the filling is distributed evenly.
  7. Eat your wrap.

If instead of one long wraps you want two smaller pieces, then you have to fold both the bottom and the top side insides before rolling the sides and then cut it into two with a knife afterwards.

  1. I’m a huge fan of wraps too. I will take stuff that I normally put in a sandwich, and just wrap it up in a tortilla and call it good. DH will even make one with Peanut Butter and Jelly. I haven’t tried that yet, but he loves them. LOL. I know you’re not a meat eater, but I also like to do several different types of grilled chicken with toppings like shredded cheese, lettuce and tomato on them. Tortillas are great because the are so versatile.

    • Yes anything you can put on a sandwich works on wraps too, there are so many options! My boyfriend likes peanut butter on his wraps. I haven’t tried that yet. I can imagine that a wrap with meat and toppings is good too, it would probably work with vega meat alternatives as well.

  2. That’s one of my favorite things to eat. I like making all the fixings for taco salad and putting that in a tortilla. I also like burritos with hamburger, refried beans, cheese, lettuce and tomato. There are so many things you can put in them but one of my favorite things to do with flour tortillas is to cut into triangles and fry them until golden brown and then sprinkle them with cinnamon sugar.

    • Oh I never thought of putting taco salad ingredients in a wrap, that sounds good too! I never tried the frying thing with tortilla’s, will have to give that a try once. And with cinnamon sugar? Sounds yummy!

  3. I think this is a great idea, doing the list thing with different ideas and whatnot. It’s been a long time since I’ve had any sort wrap though. I’ve always been really more a sandwich person, though wraps are probably healthier, less bread and all that. And they’re less messy and easier to take on the go. I’m pretty sure the few times I have made are eaten wraps in my life they were mostly veggies and/or some kind of meat, like chicken, and some sauce. So basically a sandwich but in a wrap lol. These sound like good ideas and recipes though! and the hazelnut one kinda sounds like a crepe and would make a tasty, simple snack 🙂

    • Thanks! I am glad to hear you like it. As I was running out of time for recipe posts, I thought it would be fun to do some lists now and then, I like lists ;).

I normally eat bread for lunch, but I like wraps for dinner or as late night snack now and then. And putting sandwich ingredients in a wrap works too. I like how much options you have and how you can basically put everything in them.

I just made the hazelnut wraps earlier this week, it’s so good! It’s simple to make and really tasty 🙂

    • Sounds yummy! I rarely ever eat them as lunch, but adding veggie burgers and veggies to a wrap sounds like it would make for a good lunch!

  4. I keep tortillas as a staple item because we like our wraps here, too. I do Chinese stir-fry and rice wraps, chicken swarma wraps, tacos, burritos, Spanish eggs, grilled cheese and chicken wraps. I’ve not tried pasta sauce wraps with tortillas, but I do them with thicker pizza dough to make pizza wraps. Yum!

    • I usually have a package of wraps at home as I really like them. Stir-fry and rice sounds good in wraps, a bit like my curry sauce with rice. I found that sauce and rice makes for a good wrap filling. We usually eat swarma (or the vega version for me) with pita bread, but I might try it with wraps next time, great idea!
Using pizza dough to roll up your pizza sounds good too. The pizza type of wraps they sell here work really well for pasta sauce, but I am sure normal wraps work as well.

  5. oh I love using wraps. they are a more healthy alternative to grocery store bread. My favorite method is cooking chicken and mango salsa in the crock pot, and topping it with avocado and tomatoes. And its a meal that can last me for days!! Great explanation on what to do with wraps. Will need to try these other options out.

    • They are really good with nutella, but I also like them as dinner. I never have made enchiladas before, but I have it on my list of recipes to try out.
