Blogger Shame Review Challenge
In 2016 I am joing the Blogger Shame Review Challenge hosted by Herding Cats and Burning Soup and Addicted to Happily Ever After. The goal of this challenge is to read books you received for review that have been on your review list for 6+ months count. I have so many books for review that I already have for way too long, so I jumped on the chance to participate in this challenge.

I set my goal to read 12 books for this challenge, so one every month.

2016 pick your genre challenge
In 2016 I am joining the Pick Your Genre Reading Challenge which is hosted by Herding Cats and Burning Soup. More information about this challenge can be found here.

The challenge runs from 1 January 2016 till 31 December 2016. A book only counts if it is more than 80 pages, books must be read in 2016, all formats count and re-reads and cross overs count too.

My goals
I decided to take on multiple genres for this challenge. I like trying new genres and forcing myself to read more books in those genres. This year during my bookish resolutions challenge I focussed on getting into two new to me genres namely Historical Romance and cozy mystery. I enjoyed both genres so far, so I want to up my goals for both those genres this year. And I decided to also add Romantic Suspense, I have read a few books in this genre, but want to read more of them, so I thought this challenge would be a nice way to motivate me to read more books in that genre as well.

  • Historical Romance – Level 1 (Sunbathing): 6 books
  • Cozy Mystery – Level 1 (Sunbathing): 6 books
  • Romantic Suspense – Level 1 (Sunbathing): 6 books

I am setting my goals low as I am doing multiple genres and as this year I set my goal for both Historical romances and cozy mysteries on 3, I thought doubling that goal would be a nice start. Any books I can read over those goals would be nice.

New Release Challenge 2016
I am so excited Lexie over at Unconventional Book Views and Stormi at Books, Movies, Reviews Oh My are hosting this challenge again this year! I read a lot of new releases eahc syear, so I enjoy this challenge. Seeing as I did pretty good with this challenge this year I am setting my goal higher this year, I am going for 31-45 books per year – New Release Veteran. Let’s hope I can make that goal!

2016 Bookish Resolutions Challenge
The 2016 Bookish Resolutions Challenge is hosted by Laura @ trips down imagination road and Michelle @ Because Reading. The 2016 Bookish Resolutions Challenge is about setting New Years Resolutions for books and book blogging.

Blogging Goals

  • Post a Lola’s Advice post once a month. Lola’s Advice is a my new feature for 2016 and it will be a once monthly feature on the first monday of the month, so my goal is to make sure I actualy get those done.

Reading Goals

  • Get my Netgalley percentage up to 70%. I am horrible at staying away from netgalley, so in 2016 I want to finally get my % up to 70%. In 2015 I managed to stay around the 65-69% the whole year, but didn’t reahc my goal of 70%, so this year I want to make sure I finally want to reach the 70%.
  • Get my amount of review books below 55. Ugh this is going to be a hard one, but really necessary. At the moment I have 83 review books and I am still adding more regulary. So I really want to make a dent in this pile. Considering that I will add new ones as well I think trying to get it down to 55 is an optimistic goal already. I have a goodreads shelf to keep track of my review books.

Personal Goals

  • Bake 4 Cakes/ pies. I have a strong dislike for baking cakes and pies, but I do like eating them. So my goal for the new year is to try and bake them more often.
    • Share 2 cake Recipe posts As subgoal I want to find two cake or pie recipes that work and share them on my blog. This is a bit of a blogging goal as well.
  • Organize 40 blog tours. Last year I managed to organize 35 blog tours, so I am hoping to do even better this year. Blog tours, book blitzes and book blitzes deluxe count for this goal.

I will do combined recap posts for these challenges every quarter. So at the end of March, June, September and December.

What challenges are you joining in 2016? Which genres do you want to read more books of in 2016? Any resolutions you’re setting for next year?

  1. I love that you have a strong dislike for baking cakes and pies, yet one of you goals is to bake them lol. I’m like you though, I’ve never really cared for baking, just the eating part. I’m sure you can find recipes for every possible cake in the world on Pinterest.

I’ve got quite a few goals, or maybe more like guidelines, for 2016, like reading more retellings, different paranormal creatures, but I’m not big on joining reading challenges. It just feels stressful to have to keep track and make extra posts and whatnot, but the social aspect of them seems fun and motivational!

And I’m looking forward to you running more blog tours so I can join them πŸ˜›

    • Aww thanks! I hope there wil be a lot of tours in 2016 for you to join πŸ˜‰

It’s ridiculous how much I hate baking cakes and pies, when I make them something always seems to go wrong and they are often so much effort and then if it goes wrong all that hard work is for nothing and you don’t even have a yummy pie for your efforts. grr. But I love eating them, so I hope I can find at least a few recipes that work, so I can eat cake now and then.

I like reading challenges, the community feel and the link-ups can be fun and I like showing now and then how I am doing. Although I wasn’t a fan of the monthly recaps I did last year for one of the challenges, it was too often, so I decided on quarterly recaps this year. We’ll see how that works out. There are some challenges that are really motivating and fun!

And guidelines might be a better word that goals. If I fail them it’s not too bad, but I do want to try and reach them. Good luck with your guidelines :). I am not a fan of retellings, although I keep tellign myself I should give the genre a chance. I do like reading about different paranormal creatures, especially the less common ones, although they can e hard to find.

  2. Best of luck with all of your challenges! There are so many out there that I would love to do but I just know I won’t have enough time. I’m hosting one for 2016 called Unique Formatting Book Challenge – but I also want to do the Discussion Post Challenge (I didn’t do as well this year as I wanted, but I DO have lots of ideas to talk about) and then I don’t know…maybe one more. Need to take another look around.

    • Thanks! There are so many awesoem challenges out there and there are even more that I considered joining, but in the end I decided four challenges was enough. I don’t want to stress myself out. I saw a discussion post challenge around this year and I thought it was a fun way to discover new discussion posts.

  3. *groans*

I only joined one challenge and it’s hosted by Anna too. It’s the historical romance one and my goal was 6 books. Although I met it ten times over based on the parameters, I made a speficic prerequisite for myself that I’ll only count non-fantasy historical romances. I’ve only read 4 and I don’t think I’ll be able to read two more before the year ends. So lesson is, no more challenges for me for a while…

Good luck though! I hope you have fun above everything else!

    • I usually try and set my goals in such a way that they are challenging, but not too stressful. And hey you did meet the official rules for the challeng, that’s something. I always enjoy participating in challenges, but I do have to make sure I don’t enter too many of them.

  4. Those are great challenge goals. I’ll be rooting for you and enjoy your cake efforts.

I’ve signed up for the Blogger Shame one, all of our own, My Reader’s Block blog’s Mt. TBR pile, HCBS’ New to Me, Addicted to Romance’s Oldie But a Goodie, and probably Under the Covers’ Romance Roundabout. I’ll probably end up with more. I’m addicted. πŸ™‚

    • Thanks! The cake goal will be a tough one πŸ˜‰

I need the Blogger Shame so badly and it’s such a fun concept for a challenge. I considered the new to me, but I read so many new to me author and already to a top ten list on that every year that I decided not to. I think with these four I’ll be busy enough already. There are a few others that looked really good though, but I think four will be my limit for now.

  5. I joined a bunch of challenges this year and then didn’t follow up with any of them except the audiobook challenge (that is only because the blog I’m on hosts it). It was just too much for me to keep up writing on two blogs to deal with the write up posts. I’m pretty sure I met all the goals.

I did tell myself I wanted to read more horror this year around Halloween. I listened 4 books and I plan to continue with the genre. I forgot how much I loved it.

Good luck with your reading goals. I plan to live vicariously through your cakes and pies, since I’m still trying to avoid sugar (not succeeding very well with the holidays, but I’m trying).

    • Yeah remembering to do the recap post can be difficult at times. I usually schedule them in advance and try and keep them up to date. I did monthly recaps for one challenge last year and it was too much for me, so I switched to only quarterly recaps this time.

It’s nice to rediscover a genre like that, for me it was mystery. When I was younger I loved mysteries and only now am rediscovering them and remember how much I enjoyed them.

I hope I can actually reach that cake and pies goal, it’s going to be difficult as I dislike making them so much, but hopefully having the chance to eat them afterwards will motivate me ;).
