sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?
The weather here in Netherlands took a turn for the weird. So like every september the temperatures where cooling down and the suddenly it got warmer and warmer. This week felt like we were in the middle of summer, instead of on our way to fall. On most days it got 23-24 degrees celcius in our house.

I mentioned last week that Pita had a lump/bump in her side, every day it continued to shrink. We had contact with the vet who thought it was probably an infection and if it went away on it’s own it should be okay. She seem to be doing okay beside that. Friday we decided to pay a visit to the vet, it didn’t seem to shrunk anymore. And knowing that else we had to wait till wednesday before we could go to the vet with her, I rather went before the weekend. It turned out it is a tumor and probably due to her hormones it varried in size. We booked an apointment for next thrusday, then it will be removed. We hope the surgery will go well!

You might have seen the new banners on some posts already, but I wanted to show all the 3 new banners here as well. Michelle from Because Reading is Better Than Real Life made them and I am so happy with how they turned out! I love them, they look so pretty! I had gotten bored with the old banners and it’s so fun to have something new on the blog again. I probably won’t be changing the banners from older posts, so posts from before this week, will still have the old banners.
So here are my new banners for review, cover reveal and Lola’s Ramblings:
LolaReview
LolaCoverreveal
LolaRamblings

Also, my post about Ten signs you can notice I am not from the US seemed pretty popular and it’s fun to hear how different things are in other countries. So I am thinking of maybe doing another post about the Netherlands, where I answer questions I received on social media or in a comment. So what do you think, would that be something you are interested in and what would you like to know about the Netherlands?

by Ebony McKenna

Format: e-copy
Source: for review
You can find The Summer of Shambles on Goodreads

Blurb:
Dive into this wonderfully witty young adult series from author Ebony McKenna, set in the far off European country of Brugel.

15-year-old Ondine is struggling to fit in at Psychic Summercamp and doubts she possesses any of her family’s magical abilities. She resolves to leave, determined to follow her own path and be a normal teenager. Whatever normal is in a place like Brugel.

On the way home Ondine is shocked when her pet ferret Shambles starts talking – in a cheeky Scottish accent no less! He is in fact a young man trapped in a witch’s curse. When he briefly transforms into his human self, Ondine is smitten. If only she can break the spell for good, Shambles can be handsomely human on a full-time basis.

During the summer, these two misfits uncover a plot to assassinate a member of the royal family and discover a secret treasure that has remained hidden for decades. This attracts the attention of the arrogant Lord Vincent, and Ondine can’t help being drawn in by his bad-boy charm.

With so many demands on Ondine’s attentions – and affections – normal has never seemed so far away.

The Summer of Shambles is the first in the four-part ONDINE series. Fans of The Princess Bride or the Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series will love this delightfully quirky fairytale.

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about Pita, the poor little thing. Our little dog is suffering from something similar at the moment, and has a little lump on his paw. He had a biopsy and blood test, but the vet put him on antibiotics and anti inflammatory medication. It went down a little, but he needs surgery now as well. Poor babies, I know how upset you must be, we love them like children don’t we. Please let me know how Pita is doing and have my fingers crossed for her recovery <3

    • Our vet considered medicines at first, but the problem is, it never really goes away unless you do sugery, so we decided on the surgery. I hope your dog’s surgery will go well! And yeah we love them like children and I always worry when one of them is not doing so well. Luckily the lump is pretty small, so that should make the surgery and recovery a little easier. I’ll post an update on how she’s doing at least in next sunday post, maybe on social media on the day itself when we hear back from the vet.

  2. I’ve been late on catching up with posts this week, but I’ve been sick. I’m doing it now, slowly but surely πŸ™‚ I’m certain everything will go well with Pita, you’re had so much sorrow going lately already. And that picture is so very cute ! I don’t know much about the Netherlands, one of my workmates is more familiar with your country, so.. show us what you want, I think we’ll appreciate it and will be glad for the discovery. Have a great week !

    • Thanks! I really hope Pita’s surgery will go well, she’healty and the tumor is pretty smal, so those are good things. But I still worry!
The thing is, I am not exactly sure what I want to share about the Netherlands or what would make an interesting post. I guess I’ll think about it a bit more, often the answer will come to me eventually then.

  3. As an international blogger I really enjoyed your ‘Ten signs that I am not from the US’ post!

Poor Pita! From the picture, you can see he’s a cheeky little fellow-While the others are being proper and posing he’s taking that moment to eat! Adorable, I hope he feels better soon. πŸ™‚

The new banners are great! Hope you enjoy your haul!

    xx

    • Yay! I am glad to hear you enjoyed my post about not being from the US :). I had so much fun writing it and making the right pictures to accompany it.

Yeah that’s Pita, always thinking with her stomach first. She’s lazy and laidback, but when it comes to food she can be vicious, lol.

I am so happy with the new banners, it’s nice to have something new on the blog once in a while. It’s like getting something new for your house, only different.

    • Thanks Sandy, it certainly was a busy week and next week will probably busy too. I am really curious about Summer of Sahmble,s it looks like a fun and cute read.

  4. Sorry to hear about Pita, I have my fingers crossed and will be saying lots of prayers for a quick recovery!

I am going to have to check out your Ten Signs post. I have been under the weather the last couple of days and I haven’t been around visiting.

I hope you have a great week, Lola! I am so glad you liked the new logos πŸ™‚

    • Thanks Michelle! I hope Pita her surgery will go well, luckily the tmor is pretty small so that bodes well for a quick recovery.

Sorry to hear you’ve been under the weather, hope you feel better sooon! I think I catched a cold, I have a sore throat today :(.

And I am so happy with the new logo’s, they look awesome and I get happy every time I see one atop a post!

    • I agree the new logo’s are cute and they fit the rest of my design so well. Michelle really did a fabulous job with them!

Actually I am ready for some cooler weather, I like snuggling with my rats on the couch in a warm sweater and reading a book. Although I also hate having it cold.

  5. Poor Pita! Hope surgery goes well. I love the picture of all 3 rats. So adorable! I love the new banners as well. Our weather sounds like it’s doing similar things with the back and forth though I’m way in the Southern US. We had a few days that were almost fall like and then we shot back up into the low 90s though that’s actually fairly cool for this time of year. It’s definitely been an odd summer temps wise. Have a great week!

    • The back and forth weather drives me crazy I wish it would go to being colder and colder till it reached it’s coldest point and then get warmer and warmer etc. This weather is weird and I have trouble deciding what to wear.

    • Indeed! I was so happy to be able to make a cpiture with all 3 of them together!
I hope Sierra her surgery will go well! Surgeries are always so scary as so many things can go wrong, or maybe that’s just me worrisome side talking.

    • Thanks Kat :). I usually don’t see anything special about the Netherlands, but I guess for someone who has never been here it must be a strange country, lol. I find it amazing how bloggers are from all over the world!

  6. I hope Pita’s surgery will go well.

Yay, those banners are really cute. I wish I had the opportunity to watch My Little Pony but it’s not being shown here in the Phil.

Those rats are really cute, Lola! And yay to Pita for still having an appetite despite the tumor.

Yay! Your discussion post last week was really fun. And yes, I’d love learn more about the Netherlands. I still don’t have any idea about the first question to ask. πŸ˜€ And by the way, I haven’t heard about the Summer of Shambles. I hope it’s going to be a fun read.
Charlotte @ Thoughts and Pens recently posted…Stacking the Shelves {34}My Profile

    • Thanks Charlotte! I have to admit I haven’t watched My Little Pony either, but my friend is a big My Little Pony fan and likes to make ponies for her friends, so that’s how I ended up with the pony design. I just love it, as I don’t like showing pictures of myself and this is a way to show a little from myself in a cartoonish form.

If Pita ever loses her appetite we really need to worry, so far she always eats well no matter what’s going on, she’s also our heaviest rat.

I’ll be thinking about fun things to share about the Netherlands, but so far it’s hard to come up with things as it all seems so normal to me.

  7. Oh no, I hope Pita’s surgery goes well! And that picture of her and the other two rats is so cute!

I love the new banners, still very much with your theme but a nice little update to keep things fresh! πŸ™‚

And yes, I quite enjoyed your discussion post and I think it would be great to see one about the Netherlands. Of course, I’m not sure what you should talk about because I have no idea how it’s different from over here? Maybe food that’s mainly found there? Holidays? … Stuff? haha. I’m sure whatever you come up with will be great! XP
Asti @ Oh, the Books! recently posted…Color Song Matching Game + Giveaway! My Profile

    • Thanks Asti, I am really worried about her surgery, I hope everything goes well!

These banners fit even more with my current theme then the old banners and it’s so fun to have somethign new and fresh!

I’ll make sure to talk about Sinterklaas, one holiday that most other countries don’t celebrate. For the food and such I probably have to do some research to find out what is common here, but not in other countries. Thanks for bringing up those topics!

  8. I didn’t know you were in the Netherlands. >_< Oh gosh, I feel really silly. I've just gotten used to assuming everyone is from the USA because the majority are. I absolutely SQUEAK when I find more Aussie bloggers like me. πŸ™‚ I think our humour is fairly different so it's nice to find other people who are weird like me. lol πŸ˜‰ I'm going to read that Netherland post now. *nods*
Cait @ Notebook Sisters recently posted…Trial by Fire by Josephine Angelini || burn all the things! My Profile

    • Don’t worry I don’t like to advertise the fact that I am from the Netherlands usually as I don’t want to be judged on that or have people look closer at my weird phrases or spelling errors.
I didn’t realize you where from australia either! I love your humor and the way you write your posts, I didn’t realize it was an aussie thing. I always squeak when I meet a new Dutchie blogger as there seem so little of them.

  9. Good luck with Pita, hope it goes well. The Secrets of the Cats looks like a great gamebook, I like that the cats are protecting the human. Nice twist there. πŸ™‚ Liked your post about being from different countries too, that was good!
Greg recently posted…Frightfall Read-a thon Kick OffMy Profile

    • Thanks Greg! I really liked The Secrets of the Cats, it was such an original setting and the twist with the cats protecting the humans and beign able to do magic was really nice!

  10. First off.. I am sorry to read about your pet. I love my two kitties so much. They are getting older and I am always scared about when they will pass away. It is going to be extremely tough on me. I sometimes think one of them has a tumor by his spine but I can’t really tell. Plus.. he is 11. So even if it is a tumor I don’t know what I would do about it. He just seems too old for surgery. Ughhh… so hard. I really love that picture you posted too of your rats. The banners look great too. Don’t you feel good when you accomplish getting blog stuff done!!
Angie @Angela’s Anxious Life recently posted…Going Vintage by Lindsey Leavitt- ReviewMy Profile

    • It really depends on the tumor and how healthy your cat still is, but I would advice to have a good vet look at it, just to be sure. You can always share your concerns about your cats age and decide against surgery if the risk’s too great.
I always worry about my rats as well and often check them for weird lumps that could indicate tumors. Rats get frquently tumors, Snickers also already had one tumor. I am currently waiting to hear back about how Pita her surgery went, it’s nerve wrecking.
And indeed getting blog stuff doen always feels good πŸ™‚
