sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a pretty good week, even with the few not so good things that happened. I got a lot of work done this week, spent some time in the kitchen, my back is doing better and I just generally had a cheerful mood later in the week, which doesn’t happen often.

Last weekend we got hit with a snow storm, there was a big load of snow that fell in a few days and it was cold. We don’t get a lot of snow and we haven’t had any snow last year, so it was really nice to get so much snow. It really looks pretty and I am glad I didn’t have to go anywhere. The rest of the week didn’t bring more snow, but it did stay cold. The snow is slowly disappearing now and it got a quite a bit icy later in the week. The ice on lakes and rivers nearby was finally thick enough late in the week and I saw some some people ice skating on it.

This was a good work week. I worked on an upcoming review opportunity, sent out the media kit for a tour that starts next week and did a good amount of assistant work. As well as some other work like replying to emails and confirming tour stops and some social media. I also got a blog post for authors drafted and did some more work on another.

I hurt my back last week and last weekend it was already a lot better and by now it’s almost back to normal. I still have to be careful with a few movements and I plan to keep up with my back exercises for a bit, so hopefully I won’t hurt it again anytime soon.

Now for the few not so good parts. The trend with products breaking and needing replacing continued this week when our toaster that stopped working. We use the toaster a lot (I toast most of the bread I eat) and it’s pretty old already, so I am not too surprised. We ordered a new one that should be here early next week.

I also have to start looking into a new phone, my phone company told me they wouldn’t support the network/ phone I have anymore later this year. So I have to look into what exactly that means and research a new one, ugh what a pain.

One of our neighbors is doing some renovating which lead to some noise early this week. Sadly they started early in the mornings with that and it disrupted our sleep for a few days in a row. I was happy when the worst of the noise was over after a few days and we got some solid nights of sleep in later in the book.

Food Corner

I also managed to spend some time in the kitchen this week. These are some of the things I made:

Oat Cookies with Nutmeg, Cinnamon and Pecans
I made these delicious oat cookies this week, I really enjoyed these and have drafted a new recipe of these for my blog as I have an old version that was a bit messy and outdated.

Corn Bread
I tried corn bread for the first time this week! I don’t think I’ve ever eaten this before and wasn’t sure what to expect. The structure was surprisingly fluffy and the taste took some getting used to, but I enjoyed it.

And I made this chicken pot pie, no picture of that as it looked horrible. I didn’t have enough dough to cover the top of the pie and had to use some frozen dough to finish the top. The dough will need some adjustments as it was difficult to handle and tasted a bit too buttery, so I have to adjust that next time.

What did I read this week?

WonderstruckEarly Readers Catch the Worms

I finished two books this week, Wonderstruck sadly was a 3 stars and I didn’t enjoy it as much as the previous books, but it is a great series. Early Readers Catch the Worms was a great non-fiction book about all types of early readers, it was a well written comprehensive read about early readers.

This week I blogged about:

Review: A Stitch in Time by Kelley Armstrong
Review: Destroyer of World by Jordan L. Hawk

  1. I’m glad to hear your back is doing better, Lola. It sucks when you have to be careful with the way you move, though, so hopefully, you’ll be back to your full strength very soon.
I’m also glad your work is going well.
I wish we could go skating on the lakes here! If it stays as cold as these past couple of days, we just might 🙂
Have a wonderful week ahead, stay safe and healthy.

    • It really is tough to be careful about how you move. Hopefully my back will be fully back to normal soon.

I hope you get to skate on the lakes! It was very cold for about a week here and the last 3 days of that week long cold spell we saw people ice skating.

    • Luckily the noise has quieted down now but it was annoying those first few days when it interrupted our sleep. That roof replacing sounds terrible with how you heard hammers pounding on roofs for a whole summer.

  2. I’m SO glad to hear your back is better. For me, my legs hurt more than my back but I’m to week 8 and not near normal yet. We make cornbread quite a bit with chili. I hope to read A Stitch in Time in early March for the COYER out of your lane because I almost never read horror or time travel. It’s wonderful you could enjoy the pretty snow and not have to go anywhere. I still have a toaster which my parents got as a wedding present in 1951 which still works.

    • I am so sorry to hear you’ve been dealing with the pain for 8 weeks now. I hope you feel better soon.

A Stitch in Time was a great read. I hope you’ll enjoy it! It’s a bit of a mix between romance, time travel and supernatural mystery. I don’t read a lot of time travel either, but I enjoyed this one.

That’s awesome your toaster from 1951 still works!

  3. I love cornbread. I made some last month with the chili I made. I’m glad you liked the cornbread yo made and the cookies look so good. I’m glad that your back is feeling better. I hate it when I hurt my back. And a Happy Valentine’s Day to you and yours.

  4. The snow can be pretty and I enjoy looking at it more than bare brown scenes. Glad your back continues to improve. I use my toaster a lot and I thought it was finished a few years back, but then after two days of not using it, I tried it just before buying a new one and it was back in operation. Weird thing! LOL Your cookies and corn bread sound good. I like cornbread with honey and butter, but I’ve also tried a Mexican style with peppers mixed in that was pretty good (though hot seasons).
    Your new books look good

    Have a great week, Lola!

    • The snow really looked pretty, but now it’s melting and it’s just a slippery ugly mush.

I had to laugh at your toaster story as right after posting this our toaster started working again. It was really weird, so not sure what to do now as I already ordered the new one.

I just tried to the cornbread plain for now as I wasn’t sure what to eat it with. I might try butter. I don’t like honey sadly, but maybe some sugar instead would work.

    • It really seems a trend at the moment with things breaking, ugh. The toaster however somehow came back to live, but we already have the new one in reserve now.

I really enjoyed You Knew the Price and I hope you’ll enjoy it too. I am very lucky to have landed on the author’s ARC team a few years back as I enjoy her books.
