sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This wasn’t really my week, it was a bit of a struggle, but luckily some good things happened as well. This week started off with a bad headache. My mild headache went away and then a worse one came back. So that wasn’t the best start of the week. My boyfriend’s work hours are still very variable each day and he still has to work on strange hours and that probably will continue for at least a month or more. I know these are unusual times we live in, but it’s hard to deal with.

We had some warm weather earlier this week and the start of warmer weather always makes me extra tired and lightheaded. Later in the week we got some cooler weather and some rain, which was a nice change as I felt better and the plants outside sure could use some water as it hadn’t rained for a while.

I won a giveaway for an audio code this week which was awesome. It’s for the book Building Forever by Kelly Jensen, I loved that book and I am excited to have the chance now to re-read in audio form.

In work related terms it was another productive week. I got a good amount of hours of assistant work done and some Lola’s Blog Tours work as well. I took down my bookstagram blitzes a while back as I wanted to change some things about how I ran them, now they’re live again. I am planning to run a discount to celebrate their return soon.

What I read I May

I read 14 books in May. 2 of those were audiobooks and the rest were ebooks. It was a varied reading month for me, with five books got a 3 star rating, eight books got a 4 star and one book got a 5 star rating. I had a good variety of genres as well, with my read genres being Science Fiction, Contemporary Romance, Cozy Mystery and Non-fiction with each 3 books. I also read one Fantasy book. I had a good balance of review books and non-review books, with 6 review copies, 5 bought books, 2 free books and 1 won book. I read 6 books with a MF romance, 3 books with no romance (the non-fiction books), 3 MM books and 2 reverse harem books. My favorite read of the month was Stolen Flyght by S.J. Pajonas which got a rare 5 star rating from me. It was the perfect ending to the series.

Summer of SFR!

Summer of SFR
SJ Pajonas is hosting the Summer of SFR. Any science fiction romance posts or reviews can be linked up and SJ Pajonas is featuring authors during this event. I am participating in this event as I plan to get through some SFR books this summer and have plenty of my ereaders that I want to get through. You can find more information about the event here

What did I read this week?

Baker's CovenNacho Average MurderHunter of DemonsDear Writer Are You In Writer's BlockMy Hometown Hero

Baker’s Coven was a fun paranormal cozy mystery listen. I like the mix of mystery with the paranormal aspect and ofcourse the baking contest. It was easier to remember who was who and I liked getting to know the characters better. I like the audio versions for these books.Nacho Average Murder was another solid cozy mystery book in this series. The change of setting was both a hit and miss for me. I liked meeting some new characters and seeing a new place, but missed the familiar location and characters. The mystery didn’t fully grab me in this one sadly. Hunter of Demons was a good start to this series, it very much feel like an introduction to the series in many ways, but I liked the glimpse we got of everything and look forward to continuing the series. Dear Writer Are You In Writer’s Block was another great read in this series and specifically deal with writer’s block and how to figure out what’s causing the block and get out of it. My Hometown Hero was a difficult book to read with all the bad stuff Rachel went through and the couple was apart for most of it. I did really like Rachel’s escape from the bad place she was in and those who helped her along the way and seeing her figure out what home and success realyl meant.

  1. Sorry that you have been struggling with headaches this week, Lola. You had a good reading month in May – and I’m delighted that Stolen Flyght was such a favourite, as I’m also reading that series. My favourite book was another wonderful series by Marilyn Messik and the first book was called Relatively Strange. I hope the coming week is a much better one, Lola:).

    • Stolen Flyght was awesome, I hope you’ll continue to enjoy the series as well. I’ll have to look up that book you mentioned as your favorite read of last month.

  2. Headaches in the beginning of the week are no fun! I hope you are feeling better. Awesome job with your reading this month. My reading year isn’t going as well as I had hoped but I still have 6 months left in the year so, fingers crossed! πŸ™‚

I will have the banner for you in a few days. My work is driving me crazy and this week I will finally have a little time to squeeze some of my design stuff in.

I hope you have an awesome week, Lola! Stay Safe and Happy Reading! xx

    • Headaches are the worst, I am feeling better now. It really was a good reading month. I hope you can still get a lot of books read in the second half of the year πŸ™‚

Thanks for the banner. My discount is now live. I am sorry to hear your work is so crazy.

  3. I am so sorry to hear about your headaches this week Lola! My daughter had two migraines with throwing up multiple time. It was awful so I really really feel you! I hope next week will be way better!

    • I am sorry to hear about your daughters migraines and that she had to throw up. I sometimes get nauseous when I have a headache and those usually are the worst ones.

    • It’s always a bit of a struggle for me when the weather gets warmer. Hopefully in a month or so I am more used to it.

  4. The hot weather affects my energy and health, too. Glad you got some work done and have your Bookstagram revamped.

Way to go on the reading this month. I’m glad you had a nice variety of genres, sources, and most of the ratings were average and higher. I like the sound of that SFR event so I’ll have to check it out.

    What a nice haul!

    • I really hope these changes will make my bookstagram blitzes better and easier to organize.

I always like seeing how much variety in genres and sources I got in a month. The SFR event sounds like it will be fun :).

    • Thanks! Headaches really are annoying as they put a damper on everything. I am glad I got through so many books this month.

  5. Baker’s Coven sounds like a fun read πŸ™‚ I liked several of the books I read in May, and I’m kicking off June with some library requests. I expect to like those especially since I picked them (as opposed to some review books that I just take because, why not πŸ˜‰ ). Enjoy your week!
