Type of romance: MF

Blurb:
She’s a lowly runner on set. He’s a big-time movie star. Can love blossom under the lights of Hollywood?

Morgan:
It was the only job I could find after I graduated, so I took it.
Travis, my boss, is a narcissist and I’ve never been treated so badly.
Why the heck do I stay?

Because of Sean.
He’s noticed me. He likes me.
Sean Jaxon—movie star—wants to date me!

It’s kind of surreal, but something about us is so right together. He’s awakened the dormant dreams within me. I gave up everything to look after my family when Mom left. This is my shot to finally meet the needs of my heart.

But Sean’s over-bearing manager isn’t too keen on the idea of him dating a nobody.
She’s going to ruin this for us. If only I could make Sean see it.

Sean:
Morgan is everything. Who knew I’d fall for a girl like her, but I just can’t help myself.
She’s all I can think about. We fit together so perfectly, our souls dancing in unison like we were born for each other.

I want to be with her. Protect her. Keep her away from the celebrity craziness. I can’t expose her to that life, and if Travis finds out we’re together, he’ll flip a switch. No on set dating. Nothing that will distract us from our work.

My manager thinks it’s a good idea to keep my relationship with Morgan under wraps, so that’s what I’m going to do. She’s my secret girlfriend, yet she has my heart forever.
If only I could help her understand that this is the best way.

My Review

I received a free copy of this book from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

I was excited to start book 2 in this with the hopes that this book’s storyline would be more to my taste than book 1 and I am happy to say I enjoyed this book a lot more. This book follows the story of Morgan, whom we met as a side character in My Hero Next Door. I had a fun time reading this one and it’s great sweet New Adult romance book with a focus on music and dance.

Morgan meets superstar Sean one day when she’s out for karaoke with her friends. They have a fun conversation and like each other, but when they part they don’t think they’ll see each other again. A few months later they end of working at the same film studio. Sean is taking his career in a different direction by doing a music themed series instead of the action movies he’s known for so far after his conversation with Morgan. And Morgan gets a job as a runner to help the boss. While working there they slowly grow closer.

I liked the set-up for this story with Morgan falling for superstar Sean. And Sean being a very down to earth guy even though he was a superstar, but at the same time he realized the cost of being famous. I liked seeing their relationship progress and seeing them grow closer. They made for a great couple. I would’ve liked to see a few more of their initial dates and conversations as a few of those were skipped now. I liked how they turned something that could’ve been bad into something positive. So I was a bit surprised when suddenly Morgan got fed up with it and they had this weird conflict. Morgan didn’t really communicate how much it was bothering her or what she wanted Sean to do and she had some unfair expectations and Sean didn’t really address her fears and made her feel wanted. It’s weird to say as this is a sweet romance book with fade to black scenes, but I wish they talked more instead of having sex when they were together. I thought both of them could’ve handled it better.

I didn’t like the whole ultimatum she gave him as I am not a fan of those storylines and I think it’s unfair. I wish they could’ve just communicated better. On the other hand I did like the whole part that came next and how they both had to do some soul searching and figure out what really mattered to them. The time apart did do them well and I think it made them and their relationship stronger now that they figured it out. Sure they might’ve been able to do that while still together, but this was more dramatic.

I like how we really get to see this process for both of them and how they both have to realize and accept some things about herself. I especially liked Morgan’s self discovery road and how she grew into a better version of herself and realized she didn’t always have to be tough. I liked how she got some insight into herself and how she made peace with some parts of her past and let go of the anger she still harbored. I did wish it wouldn’t have been just Sean who goes after her as I did think Morgan was unfair to him when she made him choose as she knew how much his career meant to him. I do like how their romance got resolved by the end and how Sean changed some things to show Morgan how much he cared. I also like where Morgan ended up and how she got the chance to do something she loved.

I liked how the side characters played a big role here. We see plenty of Ella and Cole from the first book. And this book clearly sets the stage for Jody’s story. Something big happens to Jody and Morgan is worried about her and then has to deal with what’s happening to Jody. It was so sad to see what Jody had to go through, but I liked how she got through it so far and I am excited to see where her story will go in her book. I liked how we got to know Jody already in these first two books.

There were some other interesting side characters as well, like Sean’s mom, Morgan’s grandma and Isabella who is a friend of both Sean and Morgan. I also liked the whole dance and music theme and how it’s woven throughout the series. And side character Rhonda was one I really disliked. I got why Sean trusted her at first and had a hard time believing she was nasty to Morgan, but after a while I just wanted him to see her for who she was, it is great when he finally does at the end.

To summarize: This is a fun sweet new adult romance book with a theme of dance and music. I liked how Morgan and Sean met and how they slowly grow closer. They have some struggles they have to deal with and there’s one big conflict point they don’t talk about well that eventually drives them apart. I liked how they both had to figure out some things about themselves and what they care about and I think it made both of them a better version of themselves. I liked how their romance got resolved. It also was fun to see the couple from book 1 again and how we see more of Jody in this book, whose story will be next. The focus on dance and music in this book is well done and you really see what a big part of these characters lives it is. There are some great new side characters in this book as well. I enjoyed reading it and I look forward to book 3.

  1. It’s like a modern fairytale when the average girl gets the super star. Bummer the big conflict was mostly lack of communication and her being unrealistic. I’m a big one for balance in a relationship even down to her taking some responsibility for the break up. Glad she used the time, as did he, to sort things out and have something stronger as a result. Great, thoughtful review, Lola!

    • Yes it does have a bit of that modern fairytale vibe with the average girl getting the superstar. I wasn’t a fun of the lack of communication causing the break-up and would’ve liked if she also took part of the blame. I did like how the time apart helped them both figure things out and how it made them a better couple in the end.
