sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a pretty good week. My boyfriend didn’t have to work this week and it was nice to have a quieter week with him not having to go to work and having to adjust to the strange work hours and days. This week felt a lot calmer due to that, which was nice. It was my grandma’s birthday this week so I gave her a call to wish her happy birthday and chatted with her for a bit. Last weekend we ordered presents for Mother’s Day for both my mom and my boyfriend’s mom. My boyfriend’s mom already got her present, but my mom’s present was delayed due sadly, so she will get that next week. It’s interesting how different these things are now with social distancing, but I am glad we have internet, phones and online orders.

I took half a day off on Monday as I noticed I was feeling more tired lately and struggling with work. The extra time off really helped me feel better. After that the work went smoother again and I got a lot done the rest of the week. I did plenty of assistant work hours. I also put two new sign-up posts live for Lola’s Blog Tours, one a review opportunity for a science fiction fantasy book and a new book blitz for a literary fiction/ contemporary romance book. A blog tour I organized started this week and another tour ended. An issue I was dealing with got finally resolved as well, which was great.

The giveaway for First Flyght that I ran on my blog ended and I picked the winners this week and bought the first book for both winners. I hope they both enjoy the book. It was fun to do a giveaway.

I baked some snickerdoodles this week with chocolate chips that turned out great! I managed to get some new flour again this week as I was going through my flour supply really fast, luckily there was still one brand of flour left, so I could buy a new bag.

What did I read this week?

My hero Next DoorHow to Write a seriesBat Wings, Rings and Apron StringsThe Last Drop

I had a streak of 3 stars this week. With the first 3 reads I finished this week all 3 stars and The Last Drop was 4 star read, which luckily broke that streak. I liked the set-up of My Hero Next Door with how the main characters meet while singing a duet in the shower, but didn’t like the plot line with the girl already benign in a relationship. It cast a shadow over the whole romance and dragged on for most of the book. How to Write a Series wasn’t fully what I was hoping for, it felt more like a analysis than a how to book to me and it didn’t have as much new information as I had hoped for. I do think this book can be helpful for authors, it just wasn’t for me. Bat Wings, Rings and Apron Strings was a great ending to the series, but for me it was one of the less enjoyable books in the series. The mystery wasn’t as gripping and I didn’t like the twist of them going back to a location and plot liens they left behind books ago. It has some great scenes of Imogen and her friends and I liked the ending. The Last Drop was a fun romantic read. It was a shorter read, but the pace was good. I liked the characters and their romance.

  1. Happy Birthday to your Grandmother!
I am glad you are feeling better and the week was good for you.
Those cookie look so yummy. I feel like being stuck in the house had made me want to bake and cook a lot more but I am starting to run out of ideas since it’s hard to get stuff.

    Enjoy all your new books!

Have a great week, Lola! Stay Safe and Happy Reading! xx

    • Thanks!

Let me know if you need some baking ideas. I have plenty of recipes on my blog. I have a few flour less recipes as well. Not sure what ingredients you don’t have. Pinterest is always a good place for inspiration as well.

  2. Great news all around. Glad you and your boyfriend could spend some restful time at home and you got some flour. πŸ™‚ I’m sure your mom will understand about the delayed shipment. That was great to get to four books this week and that one was finally a four. Your chocolate chip Snickerdoodles look yummy.

    Have a great week, Lola!

    • I am bit sad my mom’s package wasn’t in time, but with the corona thing going on I think everyone had the idea of ordering something online. I let her know, so she knows she will receive it next week.

I am glad I got through so many books this week, but hopefully I will now have some better reads again.

  3. Haooy birthday to your grandmother! I’m glad you were able to chat with her and send mothers day gifts to your mom /bf’s mom. It’s triky nowadays sending gits, but like you said, at least we have that option.

Glad some rest helped you feel better! Have a great week and stay safe!

    • Thanks! I am glad we have the option of sending gifts this way at least so we could still send out mothers something.

    • It’s hard sometimes to take days off, but I am glad I did as I really needed it. I hope my mom’s gift will arrive soon, I think it should be there early next week.

  4. Glad your boyfriend had the week off and that you gave yourself some time off. Working for yourself is often a case of learning to pace yourself. I hope you get some downtime – and I’m glad that SJ’s giveaway went well. I hope the coming week is a good one, Lola.

    • That’s definitely the most difficult thing of working for yourself. I try and schedule my time off in advance and take some time off each week, that seems to work.

  5. It is so different now with distancing! Who would have imagined a few short months ago we’d be in this situation? Funny how fast life can change…

Nice that you guys had a quieter week. I feel like it’s so important now to self- care and get some relaxation in with all the stress in the world.

    Your cookies look yummy! πŸ™‚

    • Things sure have changed fast and things really are different now. But I am glad there are still ways to celebrate like sending gifts instead of coming over.

It really was nice to have a quieter week.

    • Same here, it was fun to do a giveaway for her books so more people can try this series. I hope the winners enjoy the book πŸ™‚

    • It really helps to take some time off regularly, I should take an extra day off more often. I am glad this was a good week and the snickerdoodles were great.

    • Thanks, the cookies were great! It was too bad my mom’s present was late. It was supposed to be days early and now it was one day too late. I hope both winners will enjoy First Flyght :).
