sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a pretty decent week, but somehow it just didn’t go as smoothly at times. Some slightly frustrating things popped up and some things that needed to be dealt with that took up some time. On Monday my boyfriend and I went out for a nice lunch. And while in the city we also bought some new things my boyfriend needs for his next job, which he is starting next week.

Besides that it was another busy week with work as one of my authors was gearing up for her next release and there was a lot of work to be done. I also did my usual time of assistant work for my other authors and wrapped up this months work. I also had a tour that I organized run this week, so that kept me busy. I started on a newsletter for my Lola’s Blog Tours authors list, but ran into a complication on how to do the survey I wanted to add. I didn’t manage to finish the newsletter this week, but I did manage to find the solution to the survey, so at least that’s done.

Last week I mentioned an issue with my monitor cable, that has been fixed by now luckily. One of the internet solutions I found worked after we tried it on Sunday, so now my monitor is working like it should again. I got a bit of reading, listening and gaming done as well this week.

I am planning to run a giveaway next week for Finding Tranquility, which I read this week. I noticed that Smashwords gives you the option to gift a copy to other people. I usually only buy books on Kobo, but not as many Americans use it and you can only give sways gift cards there. And I can’t buy anything on Amazon unless I win a gift card and you can’t use gift cards to buy gifts. So gifting copies through smashwords seems like a good alternative as they offer both mobi and epub downloads which should work for most ereaders. So I figure I would give that a try. Keep an eye out for the giveaway next week and I’ll mention it next week in my Sunday Post as well.

Now that January is over, let’s look at what I read this month. I read a total of 11 books in January. I was in a science fiction book early in the month and read 5 books in that genre, as well as 2 fantasy book, 2 contemporary books, 1 mystery book and 1 non-fiction book. My favorite read was the non-fiction one Dear Writer, You’re Doing it Wrong closely followed by Druid Vices and a Vodka as well as Finding Tranquility and Lost Girl vs Wounded Boy. I read some awesome books this month. And I had a nice mix of reviews books and other sources with 4 review books, 6 books I bought as well as one audiobook through a subscription service. All books I read this month were self published, except for the audiobook which was published by Harper Collins. I read one reverse harem romance and one FF romance this month, the rest were MF romances. 1 book counted for the audiobook challenge, 4 books for new release 2020 challenge and 3 for the Coyer reading challenge. One book was a DNF, 1 a 3 star, 1 got a 5 star and the rest were 4 star reads.

What did I read this week?

Arkadian SkiesFinding TranquilityProphecy of ConvergenceUpside Down

Arkadian Skies was another great read in this series. I had a few small issues with this one when it came to some questionable behavior from the main character, but it had the usual combination of well paced, some fun banter, interesting characters and plenty of action that I’ve come to expect from this series. Finding Tranquility was a beautiful story about hope and finding yourself. It definitely left an impression on me and I really enjoyed it, it had some emotional moments, but wasn’t as emotional as I had feared given a book that deals with 9/11 and a transgender main character. It was well written and the author handled the transgender topic well. Prophecy of Convergence sadly was a DNF, nothing about the story and character caught my attention. Upside Down was a cute read, but was missing something to really grip me. One of the main character’s cursing habit was annoying and overdone, but I liked learning a bit more about asexuality.

Food Corner

In today’s food corner I thought I would talk about tea. I really like tea and drink multiple cups a day. My favorite flavors are Jasmin, camomile and fruity teas. One of my current favorite flavors are jasmine with citron tea, camomile, a white tea with blueberries, a fruity tea mix with rose and raspberries. I also like a good cup of earl grey tea, but don’t drink that much if at all anymore due to trying to limit my caffeine intake.
I got a new tea to try out this week which combines camomile with passion fruit, which sounded exactly like my type of tea as I love camomile and passion fruit, but never thought to see that combination. It was really good and I think it probably is a new favorite now.

This week I blogged about:

I am quite excited to get started with this series and just started reading book 1. Revenge is Sweet I got for review through Netgalley. • What a fun coincidence we read the same amount of books last month. Tea with puffed rice in it sounds interesting. I don’t think I’ve seen that one here, I would definitely like to give that a try if only because it sounds so unique. I am really happy with the new chamomile with passion fruit tea I bought, it’s so good!

  1. Sorry this week turned out to be rather frustrating, but I’m pleased that you are clearly so busy. As for tea – I’m a HUGE fan. My main tipple is Lapsang Suchong, but I also enjoy English Breakfast and Assam for a change, as well as Peppermint and Licorice and other fruit/herbal mixes as the mood takes me. The teas I loathe are camomile, which tastes of grass cuttings and Earl Grey which I think tastes how Fairy Liquid washing up liquid smells… Have a wonderful week, Lola:).

    • It is good to be busy, even tough these past few weeks were a bit too busy. I also enjoy licorice tea, but don’t really care for mint tea. I don’t think I’ve ever tried Lapsang Suchong. I like that grassy flavor of the camomile tea. It’s always interesting how some people don’t like certain flavors at all.

  2. Glad the monitor situation was fixed and you got a lot of work done. Cheering your boyfriend on as he starts his new job.
Great variety spread of books read this month and for several challenges. I love that you already had a five star and found a books so good that you want to do a giveaway. I’ve gotten several books with Smashwords over the years and have no trouble reading them on my devices.
I love the ritual of Afternoon Tea and prepping tea, but sadly I don’t drink it. My husband enjoys soothing teas like chamomile at night. We have a lovely tea shop here in town where we get our tea.

Nice haul and neat that a new series is starting from a favorite author.

    Have a great week, Lola!

    • I am glad the monitor situation is resolved. The problem occurred again this week, but the same method fixed it again.

I hope the gifting through Smashwords works out well, as I might do it more often then :). I am glad to hear you have had no trouble with smashwords books so far.

I drink tea all day long and it’s my usual go to drink besides water. That sounds awesome you have a lovely tea shop in your town.

I actually waiting till the Dragon Mistress series was complete so I can read it as fast as I like πŸ™‚

  3. Lots of great books in your book haul! I drink lots of different kinds of tea! But I mostly love black tea as I do need the caffeine to get through my day. I like Irish Breakfast and Earl Grey tea too. I have a bunch of flavored black teas like Vanilla and Hazelnut. Then I have a wide selection of green teas and herbal teas. For herbal teas, I really love anything hibiscus, but my favorite is Celestial Seasonings Red Zinger. Mmmm.

    • I have a lot of different tea flavors, we have a whole section of one of our kitchen cabinets dedicated to all the tea we own. Oh that vanilla and hazelnut tea sounds good! I haven’t tried hibiscus teas yet, although I bought one recently. It’s not a flavor you can find here easily in most stores, although a dedicated tea store might have more variety.

    • I never really grown to like Iced tea actually. I stick to warm tea. I am glad the cable thing was an easy fix and the cable itself didn’t need replacing after all.
