sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a pretty busy week. I had a blog tour start this week, I put two new review opportunities live, I worked on some social media posts for an author and I’ve been e-mailing with some authors about future tours. I also did a bunch of hours of assistant work. So it was a pretty productive week.

I finally got out of my weird reading mood. I decided to switch things up and start the only ARC I had at the moment that had a future release day and it actually managed to pull me out of my reading slump. Then I read another contemporary romance afterwards and then one of the books I was waiting for released and I started that. I also did some puzzling this week and I am almost done with my current puzzle. We also finished watching Star Gate Atlantis.

And we have a mouse on our balcony again. I am not even sure how it gets there, but it seems to eat the food we put out for the birds. I am hoping we can get it go away again, as I don’t want to hurt the mouse, but I also don’t want to risk it getting in our house or biting something on our balcony.

Michelle from Limabean Designs has been working on my new design and I love it! I can’t wait till all the graphics are done and I can show it to you all :).

What did I read this week?

The Little LibraryGood Luck Charm

I enjoyed The Little Library, but had a few issues with it as well and gave it a 3 star. But it totally succeeded in getting me out of my weird reading mood. The character were great and I liked them as a couple, but sometimes the book felt a bit distant somehow. Good Luck Charm was such a fun and cute read. I really enjoyed it and gave it a 4 star.

What did I cook for dinner this week?

This week I blogged about:

Review: Magic Born by Dyan Chick
Review: On the Hunt by Teyla Branton

What to expect next week on the blog:

– Review: Good Luck Charm by Kellie McAllen
– Review: The Right Move by Amy Sparling
– Lola’s Kitchen: Pumpkin Potatoes Mash

Esther Picture BookPriestess BoundBeneath the MistsThe Monolith

The True Adventures of Ester the Wonder Pig was a pre-order that arrived this week. the illustrations look great! I shortly looked at the first few pages, but haven’t read it yet. I follow Esther the wonder pig’s page on Facebook and the posts always bring a smile to my face, so I am excited about reading this picture book. Priestess Bound was a book i was waiting for to release and am currently reading that one. Beneath the Mists was a bit of an impulse buy, but that cover is so gorgeous. The Monolith I got for review.

What’s the last book you bought because of the pretty cover?

  1. Glad this week was busy for you!
I have been in a weird reading mood also, just want to try different things instead of reading what I have which is why I am glad I have KU! 🙂

Maybe throw the seeds off the balcony so the mouse will stay below and put some on the balcony for the birds. It might keep the mouse off and the birds on the balcony

I hope you have a great week, Lola! Happy Reading! 🙂

    • KU does seem like a good solution for that. I hope you get out of your weird reading mood soon.

I’ve throw a few seeds off the balcony a few times, but not sure if the mouse understands that there is more food below. I think he made his house on our balcony and doesn’t want to leave :(.

  2. Sounds like you’ve had a busy and productive week. I am glad to hear your reading phase has gotten better. I think we all go through that at some point or another. Enjoy the new books you received and your upcoming week too.

    • The mouse bit into a bit of wood on our balcony and it has a little house there we think. We thought it was gone when we stopped feeding the birds and now we started again a few weeks ago and yesterday we saw the mouse again. Or maybe it’s a new one, who knows.

  3. That cover for Beneath The Mists is beautiful!
I totally understand your dilemma about not wanting to hurt the mouse. Have you tried hanging bird feeders? That way the mouse wouldn’t get at it, and hopefully move on, but you could still feed the birds.

    • It really is a stunning cover!

Our bird feeder isn’t on the floor actually, but the crows sort of dig their beaks in the food and when there is a lot of food they throw some parts on the floor and the mouse scoops that up. I am now trying putting less food in the bird feeder so even if they eat messily not as much will land on the floor. So I hope that helps.

  4. How lovely that you are now emerging from the reading slump you were in – glad that mixing it up really helped:). Urg – I HATE mice! They are such dirty little beasts and I cannot abide the smell… I hope you find a way to discourage him, because if you don’t manage it soon, you’ll have a whole family!

The last book I got hold of because of the cover was Reclaiming Shilo Snow – Book 2 of The Evaporation of Sofi Snow duology by Mary Weber:). Have a great week, Lola:)

    • A genre switch seemed just what I needed.

Maybe it’s already a family, because I am pretty sure this one was smaller than the one we had earlier this year. It’s actually really cute and I don’t want to hurt the mouse, but I do want to make sure it moves somewhere else.

    • I had fun reading the Little Library and the bookish theme was a fun addition. I have my review scheduled for the 26th :).

The french bread pizza was really. It’s been awhile since we last ate it. I figured out that you could freeze french bread, which was handy, so i could buy it a few days in advance.

I hope to read the Esther the Wonder Pig book soon.

  5. Oh look! A book about the Little Free Libraries! How fun! I’m going to be donating most of my paperbacks to Little Free Libraries over the next few months (as soon as some of this snow disappears). Unfortunately, we haven’t started any puzzles here this month. I keep meaning to and time keeps slipping by. I don’t know where the time goes!

    • I haven’t seen many free little libraries around here, but I do really like the idea and it was fun to read a book about it. That sounds like a great idea to donate your books to free little libraries!

        • I think I read somewhere once that we have one in our neighborhood, but I am not sure where. That’s great you have so many of them around you and two close to your parents place. I hope your books find a new home after you donate them to those libraries!

  6. That is rather confusing. How does a mouse get onto a balcony of all places? I can see your dilemma though, I wouldn’t want to hurt it either but also wouldn’t want it getting in the house. Glad you’re out of your weird reading mood! And ooh I’m totally going to have to check out Beneath the Mists because that cover is amazing!

    • I don’t know, I think they can climb. But still, it seems a rather difficult climb, maybe it used the drainpipe? And I don’t get why it doesn’t go back down as one of the ground level neighbors has a big bird feeder in their garden and there should be more than enough food there. But I think it made it’s house in a small hole on our balcony somehow and likes it there. We almost never see the mouse, so half of the time I have no clue whether it’s still here or not. And it’s actually really cute and I don’t want to hurt it, but I also don’t want it in the house or ruining the balcony. So I don’t know what to do about it.

I am really glad I got out of my weird reading mood. And the cover for Beneath the Mists is so pretty, I just had to buy it. And it’s a fantasy romance, which is a genre I haven’t read much of yet and it sounds pretty good.
