sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a busy week. I had a lot of work to do, my boyfriend started this new job, we’ve trying to adjust our daily schedule a bit and some of those small time sucking things popped up. I put two new sign-ups posts live this week, one for a coloring book cover reveal and a contemporary romance book blitz with review stops. I had 2 blog tours, 2 book blitzes and a cover reveal take place this week. I sent out a newsletter to my author list about the new Lola’s Advice post. And I also did a bunch of assistant work.

And there was an incident with a trashcan and raw eggs. So here’s what happened, we had some eggs that I had for weeks, so I smartly decided to throw them away when I bought new eggs, but I had just thrown out the trash so they ended up in the bottom of the trashcan. I am sure you can figure out what happened when I added other trash on top. Let’s say it wasn’t pretty, the whole bottom of the trashcan was covered in raw egg and took a while to clean. The bath actually came in handy so I could scrub and clean out the trashcan well. I really hate the smell of raw eggs. So from now on I know to never throw raw eggs on the bottom of a trashcan. It was a mess.

Some good news. I actually managed to have 3 recipe posts scheduled at the moment, yay! I think I didn’t do any last month, so I am happy to have some scheduled for the future, the first one goes live next week. I also bought two box sets and an anthology this week for less than $3 total. And I finished two books, instead of my only one week tempo from last weeks. I also got a bit of gaming done again this week.

Picture of the Week

Sorry no picture this week.

What did I read this week?

StarflightThe Return

Starflight and The Returns were both really good. Two solid 4 star reads. Starflight is a YA sci-fi book and it was a lot of fun. The Return was a great sequel and I would recommend this series for those looking for a great dystopian series. I reviewed the first book on the blog this week :).

What did I cook for dinner this week?

Book Haul:

The Cambria CodeThe Wonder CatsMarked By Fate Origins

I bought the two box sets and the anthology each for $0.99. I’ve had my eye on the Cambria Code for a while and couldn’t resist getting the box set while it was discounted. And when I was about to buy it I noticed the Wonder Cats box set in my cart (and it was still only $0.99) and decide to buy that as well as it sounded fun. Marked by Fate Origins has two authors I already know (Kelly St Clare and Erin Hayes) and it sounded like a fun way to discover some new authors, so I bought it when it released last Friday.

Freebies I grabbed:

You can stop by my facebook post here to see some freebies and cheap/ discounted book I found last week. Here’s the Facebook post for next week.

  1. Oh dear! You have my profound sympathy – I LOATHE the smell of raw egg, so I can imagine was a miserable chore it was…
I like the sound of both books – they certainly sound like my kind of read. I hope your boyfriend’s new job is a success – it’s always a bit miserable being the newbie. As for you – you seem to be going from strength to strength! Have a great week – hopefully without any more unwanted eggs… My Sunday Post – https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2017/07/09/sunday-post-9th-july-2017/

    • I like eggs, but I loathe the smell of raw eggs. It was a pain cleaning it up, but I am glad it’s all clean now again.

Both books were great reads :). So far my boyfriend it enjoying his new job.

    • Yeah these bags sometimes tear, so a more expensive brand probably would work better. But usually the bags only tear when I get them out and then it’s not as big of a problem, now it apparently teared while in the trashcan and spilled all that stuff out, yuck.

    • Stinky bins are no fun. I think this is the first time our bag teared and it actually leaked into the bin, normally the trash might smell, but it stays contained to the bag.

  2. Raw eggs are definitely not a good smell! Sorry to hear that! Best of luck to your BF starting his new job too.

I liked Starflight and The Return series definitely looks good. Marked by Fate does as well.

    Have a great week Lola!

    • I really loathe the smell of raw eggs. But luckily I got it cleaned well so the smell is all gone now :).

The return was really good. I just finished Marked by fate this week and I really enjoyed it. Fun way to discover some new authors. And it had two stories by authors I already new.

  3. Eww. I keep food in the back of the fridge and then do a clean out the night before trash pickup. Then I throw away anything that has to go out. It helps that I generally go to the grocery and bring home new food on the weekend and our garbage pickup is on Monday mornings.

It’s aways nice when you can find those cheap box sets.

I hope your boyfriend enjoys his new job.

    • I really should get better at double checking everything before I throw out the trash, that would’ve prevented this disaster.

I like finding those cheap box sets, great way to discover new authors or start a new series 🙂

  4. Yikes, I bet that smelled awful. Since we are having hot weather right now I wait until our garbage gets picked up before throwing food away. We keep our garbage outside but I still don’t want that smell lol. Congratulations to your boyfriend and his new job. I hope he enjoys it! I hope you have a great week!

    • I didn’t think about it when I threw the away. I had bought new eggs and the old ones were in the way so I threw them out, not realizing it would be on the bottom of the bag where it likely would be squashed.

    • I never had the eggs break in the trash before or at least not drip out like this, I guess I usually don’t put them on the bottom of the trash.

It’s nice to have a few recipe posts schedule, I might write a new one this week.

I was happy to find the good book deals :).

    • It really was a stinky mess. This never happened before, but I definitely know now to never throw the eggs away first. I was happy when I had gotten it all cleaned up again.

  5. Good luck to your boyfriend with the new job! I had to clean the bin last week too, not my favorite pasttime. Glad to see you liked Starflight, it’s on my TBR!

    • I don’t think I ever had to clean this bin before as it never gets really gross, but it was necessary now.

I hope you enjoy Starflight once you get around to reading it 🙂

    • I am sorry to hear you missed the deal on the Cambria Code box set :(. I think I got 3 or 4 e-mails this week in which it was mentioned. If I had known it was on your wishlist, I would’ve mentioned it to you.

The raw egg adventure wasn’t fun, but the rest was a good week 🙂

    • Yes it was a pain to clean. I am glad I thought of just putting it in the bath as else I had no idea how to effectively clean it.

The onion pie was so good. I was a bit skeptical at first, but it turned out really good :).
