sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

Phew this was a busy week! Lots of appointments, vet visit and work. And then I sliced into my finger with a knife while slicing veggies. And there was VAT stuff, my mom had a nice program to keep track of my VAT for next year. Let’s say I am happy this week is over.

It was a great week for Lola’s Blog Tours, there are two new cover reveals open for sign-up and a new book blitz. And I am there are more sign-ups coming soon. So if you have some empty spots on your blog in February that you want to fill, make sure to check them out 🙂

On monday I paid a visit to the doctor for a check-up for my ears, she concluded that everything looked fine. And I realized another issue I kept forgetting to ask about, namely that Pita somemtimes bites us and I knew I got my last tetanus shot long ago and needed a new one. So I asked my doctor if it was necessary to get a tetanus shot and while most of the wounds are pretty shallow, she decided it couldn’t hurt. So I went to get my tetanus shot after that. Things like that always make me a bit anxious and queesy, but I got my shot and will now be protected for another 15 years, yay! My arm kept feeling stiff and hurting for the next 4 days.

Tuesday we went to visit the vet for Pita. As the hospital were they did blood testing was clsoe by the vet, we stopped by that first to let me blood taken for the B12 and such testing. The registry was done pretty quick and we didn’t have to wait long for the blood testing. I felt really anxious, I think I almost crushed my boyfriend hand when the needle went into my arm, but I am happy to have that done now. The nurse was a nice lady that kept talking to me to keep my attention from the needle, I was really gratefull for that as it helps when people talk to me in moments like that so I can freak out less.

Then it was to the vet with Pita. We were a bit early so we spent some time chatting with a women with her son and cat in the waiting room. Her kid didn’t like Pita, lol, but the women told us she had rats in the past as well and agreed they were great pets. The vet’s visit was a bit mixed. The vet didn’t actually know were Pita was hurting, but he seemed concerned by her behavior and said to try some painkillers for a while and then after a week slowly build it down and see what happens. There are three main options, either the painkillers helpa dn the pain stays away, that’s the good option; the painkillers help, but the pain returns when we stop and that might mean she would keep using painkillers for the rest of her live; or the painkillers don’t help and only a scan could form a diagnose then and it might be even worse like something with her nervous system that’s wrong. The vet also checked out her lump and said it probably was a tumor, but he wanted to focus on the treating her pain first and then treat the tumor afterwards when that goes right. So we’ll see how that goes, so far Pita seems to react to the painkillers, but she still squeeks now and then and before she needs another dose of painkilled she looks worst.

Friday I called back about the blood test results and everything was fine, so I am happy about that.

Welcome to Whistle Stop…where anything can and most likely will happen.

The notorious cowboy meets his match…

Cord Lawson instantly distrusted the young woman in a smart suit who’d just arrived in Whistle Stop. She was very pretty and clearly a city girl–but with memories of his failed marriage still darkening his mind, he’s determined to steer clear! But she’s sniffing around his land–land that has been in his family for generations. There was no way he’d let it go–even if the bank was threatening to foreclose, and even if selling could give Whistle Stop a new lease on life.

Alexis Greer had one mission–close the deal on the Lawson ranch; without it, her father’s land development company would go bankrupt. But the word around town is to keep clear of Cord and to stay away from his precious land. What had happened to cause such a handsome cowboy to live such a solitary existence? However, determination was Lexi’s middle name. She just had to keep on trying to breach Cord’s barriers, to appeal somehow to his head and heart–even if it put her in danger of losing both of hers…to him.

Blurb:
It’s the roaring twenties, and San Francisco is a hotbed of illegal boozing, raw lust, and black magic. The fog-covered Bay Area can be an intoxicating scene, particularly when you specialize in spirits…

Aida Palmer performs a spirit medium show onstage at Chinatown’s illustrious Gris-Gris speakeasy. However, her ability to summon (and expel) the dead is more than just an act.

Winter Magnusson is a notorious bootlegger who’s more comfortable with guns than ghosts—unfortunately for him, he’s the recent target of a malevolent hex that renders him a magnet for hauntings. After Aida’s supernatural assistance is enlisted to banish the ghosts, her spirit-chilled aura heats up as the charming bootlegger casts a different sort of spell on her.

On the hunt for the curseworker responsible for the hex, Aida and Winter become drunk on passion. And the closer they become, the more they realize they have ghosts of their own to exorcise…

    • Yeah it makes me feel better knowing that I am still on the right track when it comes to eating and everything is fine with my blood. It’s nice to get that reassurance once in a while.

Glad to hear you loved Bitter Spirits, it sounds so good!

Pita is still doing a bit meh, some moments she looks really bad, but the pain medication seems to take the edge of her pain at least.

  1. I have my fingers crossed for poor pita, give her hugs from me! I hope she feels better.
Glad your blood work came back good and all is right with your B12 😉

I need to check out your tour stuff, without my author spotlight I need to fill a few stops and I use to love doing blitzs might start doing them again 🙂

    Have a great week Lola!

    • I am giving Pita lots of hugs, she sits with me for most of the day and she get’s lots of yummies. It’s just so sad to see her being down. I am happy the pain medication seems to work so far, but I am afraid what wil happen when we stop with the medication.

It’s nice to know my blood is okay and I am getting enough B12, havign a b12 shortage is scary stuff, so I am glad to know everything is okay :).

I can imagine stopping those author spotlights leave you with some open stops. Beside my Lola’s Ramblings and Lola’s Kitchen post I don’t have many regular content so I am signing-up for a few tours now and then to fill in some gaps.
I mostly have adult tours and blitzes for February open for sign-up at the moment and two awesome cover reveals. Just got a sign-up post drafted for a YA blitz, but that one won’t go live until half February as the blitz is for April.

Hope you have a great week as well!

    • I am really happy there was nothing wrong with my blood, it’s relief to have it checked.

I really hope Pita gets better as well, but it’s too soon to tell yet.

    • I bought Bitter Spirits after seeing it on one of your end of 2014 top ten lists. Looking forward to reading it!

And those tetanus shots are really nasty, the place still feels sore and sensitive. Sorry to hear you had a lump for a whole month, I wonder what’s in those shots that it keeps like that for so long.

    • I hope to have better news about Pita next week, but we’re fearign for the worst. This evening she was looking really bad :(.

Oh what are you having for lunch? I made egg salad for lunch today and we had leftover korma for dinner again, lol, I made enough for 3 dinners.

Thanks for signing-up for some of the tours I am organizing!

    • Yeah it was a busy week.

I already have a Tofu Korma Recipe scheduled for 27 february and the Korma I made this week for 6 March. This korma turned out really well, although I cooked it a bit too long and the cauliflower sorta turned to pulp, I made jokes with my boyfriend that there was no cauliflower in it anymore as you couldn’t recognize it anymore.
I really like making indian dishes, they are so flavourfull.

    • This shot was really nasty, I can remember not liking them as a kid, but I don’t remember them hurting like this. Ah well at elast I won’t have to get another for 15 years, so I am okay with it.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  2. I finished my second book for COYER this week as well! I can’t seem to decide which one should be my 3rd so I haven’t started my next one yet. I hope that you have a great week! And I will be looking forward to your thoughts on Bitter Spirits as that is one that I have been wanting to read myself!

    • I am happy to finally have finished it, took me long enough ;). Deciding what to read, can be difficult sometimes. I hope I get around to reading Bitter Spirits soon, but it might have to wait till after Coyer as it won’t count for coyer.

  3. Oh Pita! I hope she responds to the meds and gets better! Sending healthy thoughts her way! I’m glad you got a clean bill of health for you – I bet it feels good to have everything taken care of for a while!

Oh man, can you do a condensed milk cookies recipe for one of your Lolas Kitchen posts? I’m super curious about them. Excited for the Risotto!

Have a great week Lola!! Hugs to Pita 🙂

    • She’s responding the the meds, we’re starting with lowering the dose tomorrow and then see what happens. She has her good moments, but also some bad moments. Yesterday evening she looked so bad, I was afraid we were goign to lose her, but she looked a lot better today. I am hugging her a lot lately, it’s so hard to see her struggle.

And indeed it’s nice to have all that health stuff done, so I don’t have to worry about it for a while.

I’ll make a recipe post for the condensed milk cookies next time I make them. They were really easy to make and required only a few ingredients. They have a very unique texture. They turned out pretty good even though they looked horrible, lol.

    • It took a few days, but my finger is healed. And I am happy about the good enws concernign the blood, I was a bit worried for a while that I might have a B12 shortage.

It’s hard that we don’t know what’s wrong with Pita, it’s difficult seeing her struggle and not being able to do more then cuddle with her and give her yummies. She looked really bad yesterday evening, but she seemed better today.

  4. Oh goodness, I hope your alright. Blood and I do not get along, and I often mutilate the heels of my foot with all my shoes and it becomes a literal bloody mess. Is that tmi? I digress LOL

The tofu meal that you had sounds fantastic! I’m going to try and recreate that one, just without the soy sauce because I’m gluten free! I hope you had a good week, Lola! x

    • I don’t mind blood itself too much, but I can’t stand all things related to doctors and dentists. It freaks me out to see the needle enter y skin, so I really have to look away as not to freak out.

I think I once saw a gluten free soy suace, but not sure. Or maybe there’s a similar sauce to it gluten free? Sounds difficult living gluten free, I wouldn’t even know which things contain gluten and which not.

    • I think it helps that I work from home, not having to travel really spares some time. Lola’s Blog Tours is my only job, so I can do it all from home, which is really nice. Although this really was a busy week, hope the enxt week is a bit less busy.
I started Riding the Odds yesterday and it’s pretty good. The idea of that dragon symbyote is so cool and it almost like a pet of some sorts.

  5. That’s great that the blood work was ok, it’s just so reassuring. And I’m glad the nurse that you met was so kind, it can make all the difference to the experience. You sound so busy at the moment. But hopefully now with the blood test and the VAT out of the way, that this week will be busy in a nicer way!
PS I tried your spices tip when making soup yesterday and it worked a charm. I’m always going to mix them first now, it just makes it so easy to judge and mix!
Trish @ Between My Lines recently posted…Book Review : Vendetta by Catherine DoyleMy Profile

    • I am really glad the blood work turned out okay. And that nice nurse certainly made the experience better. There’s more VAT stuff to bve done for begin april, so it’s not completely out of the way yet and my mom and her husband found a new system for me to record VAT so I have to look that over and see if everything’s right.

I am so happy to hear you tried out my spices tip! It certainly makes judging easier and then you can just tip the bowl into the dish.

  6. Hope Pita is okay! Small animals are really hard to diagnose, we had to go to three different vets for my guinea pigs. So glad everything is well with the blood test! It’s always a relief when stuff like that works out. Is tetanus the painful one? I remember getting a long and incredibly painful shot when I was younger and since your arm hurt for awhile after I’m thinking it was the same.
Alise recently posted…Review: The First Third by Will KostakisMy Profile

    • Pita seems to be doing okay, although she has some bad moments as well, the pain meds seem to help. This week we have to start lowering the dose and then see what happens. We have a good vet, but like you said it’s difficult to diagnose them and the vet wanted to try this option first as it’s likely to work and less painfull and cheaper than a scan.
And yes tetanus is the painfull one you get in your upper arm, I am glad my arm is feeling okay again as it was really annoying.

    • I was really happy the blood test came okay. I’ve been worrying about nothing, but it’s still nice to know for sure everything is okay.
The blurb for September Skysounds so intriguing, I just ahd to accept it for review.

    • I am really happy with the good test results. Pita seems to have her good and bad moments, the pain medication helps, but we’re starting lowering her dose now and I am a bit afraid what will happen now.

There are so many variaties of Korma, I have two favourites so far and have both of them planned for a recipe post. It’s really worth a try!
