Spell TamerSpell Tamer (Paranormal Criminal Investigations #2)
by Laura Greenwood

My Rating: 4 stars

Genre: Paranormal Mystery
Age Category: Adult
Type of romance: Reverse Harem

Blurb:
What do a cold case and a skeleton have in common?

At first glance, there’s nothing connecting the two cases, but the more Cassie and the team start digging, the more similarities they discover. And when a third body shows up, they’re faced with a murderer on the loose.

Can they catch the killer in time?

Spell Tamer is an urban fantasy mystery and book 2 in the Paranormal Criminal Investigations series.

My Review

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and it didn’t take me long before I started book 2. Spell Tamer is even better than the first book. I like the combination of the paranormal with a new mystery that they solve in each book as well as the romance between Cassie and her three guys. This book is well paced with not a dull moment and I liked seeing how everything progressed.

Spell Tamer starts two years after the end of book 1, which was a bit weird at first as I had to wrap my head around the fact they now spend 2 years doing this and also that their romance was 2 years further. Once I got that all sorted in my head I actually was kinda happy with this time skip. It’s great to see how far they’ve come and it’s also nice to see how Cassie interacts with her three mates now that they settled a bit more into their relationship.

Where book 1 had some introduction to do, of the characters, the romance and the world, this book could dive right into a new mystery. The mystery was an interesting one when they notice a pattern in two seemingly unrelated deaths and they have to figure out who and what is behind it. I like how they use a combination of magic and science to solve the case.

It was fun to see more of Cassie and her three guys. There are scenes where they all work together, but also more quiet and connecting scenes. I liked how Cassie spends time with each of her guys, but they also do a lot together as a group. I like learning more about all of them and I enjoyed seeing them interact now that their romance has progressed more.

To summarize: Spell Tamer was even better than book 1. The combination of mystery, the paranormal and romance makes for a great read. The pace is well done and I wanted to keep reading, each scene adding something to the story. It was interesting following the characters along as they try and solve this mystery and I like how they use a combination of science of magic to solve it. I also liked seeing more of Cassie and her three guys. They make for a great team and I liked seeing them all work together and also seeing Cassie spend time with each guy separately. I look forward to book 3!

    • The time skip forward was a bit jarring, but once I was settled it was such a great read. I liked being able to jump right into the mystery.
