Blurb:
I’ve battled the Reapers of Chaos before–and survived. But this time I have a Bad, Bad Feeling it’s going to be a fight to the death … most likely mine.

Yeah, I’ve got my psychometry magic, my talking sword, Vic–and even the most dangerous Spartan on campus at my side, in Logan freaking Quinn, but I’m no match for Loki, the evil Norse god of chaos. I may be Nike’s Champion, but at heart, I’m still just Gwen Frost, that weird Gypsy girl everyone at school loves to gossip about.

Then someone I love is put in more danger than ever before, and something inside me snaps. This time, Loki and his Reapers are going down for good … or I am.

My Review:
After reading book 5 in this series, I knew I wouldn’t be able to wait long until I had to read the last book in the series and I am glad I finally made time to read this book. Killer Frost is the perfect ending to this book and maybe even my favourite book in the series so far. The characters have fought so long and hard, but the biggest battle is still to come and it was amazing. There are twists I didn’t see coming and this constant sense of doom and danger and everything coming together. At times it felt like I was right there with Gwen and her friend battling the Reapers.

This book was a solid ending to the series and at first i was afraid the ending would be disappointing as the book started in a direction I hadn’t expected, but it all worked and the direction was necessary. This book ended with a big bang and the battle that the whole series was building towards. I really enjoyed this book and when i finished the book it left me with a warm happy feeling. Yes I am sad this series is over, but it was a good ending and I am happy it has ended here.

The characters are one of my favourite aspects of this series. This book again made me realize how much I’ve come to like these characters. one character that surprised me in this book was Nickamedes and in a good way. There is this scene in the library with Gwen and Nickamedes that really surprised me and I was so happy to see that side of the character. it was really well done and in that one scene he quickly became one of my favourite characters of this series. Then there is Gwen ofcourse and her friend and I love how much they care about each other and are there for each other. Even Gwen got a nice surprise when her friend did something unexpected. Daphne is one of my favourite characters as well and Carson had a cool moment in this series as well.

We get a few more pieces of world building and things that finally fall into place. Yes some things still don’t make sense concerning the different mythologies and type of characters, but this is such a fun book that I can easily overlook those things. the author doesn’t over explain things, which makes it easy to just accept things how they are. The ending fills in some gaps in the world building and wraps things up nicely.

To conclude: this was the perfect ending to this series. The whole series builds up to this moment and there is an awesome battle that made me feel like I was right there with Gwen and her friends. And we even get a glimpse of how things are afterwards, which is something I like about Jennifer Estep her books. The characters are one of my favourite aspects of this series and I love how they are in this together and are such a tight group. There were two characters who pleasantly surprised me in this book. All in all I really enjoyed this series and am happy with how it ended.

  1. Glad the ending was satisfying for you. I always get a little nervous when I’m reading a last book in a series. It’s my expectations for something big and my emotions that don’t want to say good bye.

Sounds like the characters and the plot along with the worldbuilding really make this a strong series.

    • Same here, the expectations are always high for a last book in a series. It’s hard for a book to live up to that. So when I find a book like this one that makes a perfect ending for a series it’s just so satisfying. It’s a strong series, with every book as good or even better as the last one.

    • I really enjoyed the books by this author I read so far, I haven’t read all her books yet, but I do own quite a few of them. She’s a great author!
I also like it when an ending ties up the loose ends or at least wraps up the most importants parts. I don’t mind if there is room for imagination, but I usually want most things wrapped up nicely.

    • I actually think this series get’s a little bit better with each book, I think I rated each book a 4 stars, so it’s a series that doesn’t drop in quality indeed. And it was great it actually ended as well as it started. I hope you’ll get aroudn to reading it one day, it’s a great series!

    • I have only read the first 5 or 6 books in her Elemental Assassin series, I really should catch up on that series soon. And I own the first four books in her other adult series, but haven’t started that one. I really like her YA series as well, they still have the same writing style and feel and I would recommend them.

  2. I seriously need to start reading Jennifer Estep’s books. I was planning on her Adult Urban Fantasy but I have the first book of her latest YA series so I think I’ll start with that first. I’ve heard good things about this series though and I’m so glad this final installment didn’t disappoint! It’s just a great feeling to say goodbye to a series you love with a book that ends it with a bang. It’s a bit bittersweet because it’s over but the fact that it was everything you expected and more makes it more sweeter. Awesome review Lola!

    • I am currently reading the first book in her new YA series, which is really good so far! Her adult Elemental Assassin series is really good as wel, although I haven’t read the last few books in that series, I really need to catch-up. She’s a great author.
And indeed it’s such a great feeling to say goodbye to a series when it ends with a bang and ends the series well. It’s sad that it’s over, but it wrapped up the main plot lines and it was a book end point.

    • Yeah sometimes it’s nice when series ends, the waiting is over and the series doesn’t get dragged out and this was a good point the end the series and wrap things up. It’s a great series and all books have been solid 4 star reads.

    • I have enjoyed all the books by this author that I read so far, she’s great author! And indeed so many series struggle with staying strong at the end, so it was great to see this series end with a bang!

  3. This series looks really good and I’m glad you had so much fun with it Lola. 🙂 and me as well I’m always, always nervous when reading the last book in a series because I want it to live up to my expectations. My idea for a perfect ending would have to be not killing off any of the lovely characters. Ugh. Like in Harry Potter. Is this series a romance?

    • It isn’t a romance, it’s more focussed on the story and has some action, but there is a romance sub plot that plays a role. The romance isn’t big enough that I would describe it as a romance book, but it is there.
While it is realistic when some people die at the end, it’s still sad when those happen to be some of your favourite characters. This last book in the series definitely lived up to my expectations.

    • Oh that’s a nice way to describe it! I want to feel something with the ending and I like ending that end with a bang like this one did, with a big battle that the story had been building towards. I prefer happy endings, but a good realistic ending or sad ending can work as well for some books.

    • Well it might be a good thing to discover it now as all the books are released and you can read them right after each other if you enjoy the series. The ending was really done well, it had everything I hoped for and packed the right bang at the end.
