The Cat Queen takes her throne…

A queen needs an army, and when we travel to Eden Park, the shifter theme park, I am in for a surprise. Turns out all those cheesy rollercoasters and offensive zoo-like shows are just a front for a shifter militia, and I’m going to have to learn to give inspiring speeches. It starts to feel all too real when people want you to kiss their babies for good luck, you know?

Luckily, I have the two sexiest, dearest men in the world at my side, my loyal wolf shifter musician Ian and sharp tongued but sweet lynx-shifter Waylon, who keeps revealing new talents… But where is my third consort? He’s closer than I realized, and dealing with his dark, damaged past will draw out a new side to my powers.

Still, in the end, destroying people is what I’m meant to do, and when a friend gets caught in a trap set by the sadistic Shaw, I’m due for a reckoning with my ability to kill. But is this the real trap? It seems like my enemy was only waiting for me to cut loose…

My Review

I received a free copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

Black Queen Sovereign is the third book in this series and this series continues to be awesome. I love seeing how the storylines progress and the characters develop in each book. This book shows Frankie’s harem fully coming together as well as her step up to the role of queen. Then there is Mina who also changes a lot, it was awesome to see her try and figure out who she is away from Alistair, I really think the time away did them good. I really like reading about these characters and the story is awesome too.

This book has some big events going on, both plot and character related and it was such a great read. I wanted to keep reading and see everything play out. Seeing Frankie step up to her role of queen is amazing and there are some interesting twists and turns story wise.

There are some big character and relationship developments in this book. I really like the character change in Frankie and how she accepts her role as queen and slowly figures out what she can do and feel more comfortable in her role. Then relationship wise her harem really comes together. She figures out who all 3 of her mates are and this book really forms the start of her reverse harem relationship. I liked seeing the guys all work together as well and be there for Frankie. It’s nice to see the dynamic between them. And then there are the other potential consorts and side characters as well and I like how they all work together. I am still not sure about Viktor, but this book definitely made me think my doubts are warranted.

I do admit I had my doubts about Florian, he just seemed to broken too really be relationship material. I actually liked how that got resolved, there’s this event that really helped him, but I also appreciated how it wasn’t a magical fix that solved everything. He’s still broken and only taking the first steps to his relationship with Frankie, but now I feel like he can get there. I am not fully sold on Frankie and Florian’s romance as that tint of brokenness kinda taints their romance in my opinion. Luckily I really like her other two guys. I still really like Waylon. And I really like Waylon and Frankie’s relationship, their banter and also comfort together is great to read. I also liked seeing more of Ian and Frankie and Ian and I am starting to feel their romance more now.

While the focus is on Frankie and her harem and the events and characters surrounding her, there also is an important side plot line about Mina. I quite like Mina and this book made me like her even more. It’s so sad to see how she never really got to figure out who she is and what she can do and now she has some freedom she has the chance to figure that out. And I love her relationship with Ansel, they are just so good together. And Ansel is so sweet and just perfect for her, with how fully he supports her and is there for her without trying to use her for his own gain. I really like him and his relationship with Mina and I look forward to seeing more. I am really excited for the next book and seeing more about Mina and her harem.

This book also deals with the whole shifter queen prophecy becoming more known. There is unrest, but also hope and it was interesting to see more of the community and citizens and how they react. There are some interesting scenes with Frankie and her harem connecting with different groups of shifters and I like how that shows how the average shifter views them.

To summarize: This continues to be an amazing series and this was another great installment. I really like the character development and story development in this one. There is a lot of progression in that regard as well as relationship development. It’s so fun seeing everything come together, the queens and consorts getting pulled together and news of the prophecy spreading. I liked seeing Frankie slowly grow into her role as queen and growing more confidence in that regard. As well as seeing her harem really come together in this book. I also really liked the chapters from Mina. It was sad, but also empowering to see her struggle to find out who she is and what she wants. And Ansel is just perfect for her and I love how supportive and sweet he is. This books kept me engaged from start to finish and I can’t wait for the next book!
