My Rating: 4 stars

Genre: Science Fiction Romance
Age Category: Adult
Type of romance: Reverse Harem

Blurb:
A sought-after getaway. A mother’s relentless vengeance. A desperate pursuit to unveil buried secrets…

Skylar Kawabata longs for a peaceful retreat at the lavish Lee villa on Laguna, seeking sun, surf, delicious food, and friendly company to escape her woes. But when she crosses paths with an old flame during an impromptu celebration, their reunion forces her to reevaluate her connections — particularly as Takemo enters the scene once again. Once an adversary, Takemo has since evolved into a kind-hearted, resourceful, and charismatic man who captures Skylar’s attention even though he infuriates her.

Yet Skylar’s supposed haven is far from serene. A vengeful lawsuit from her own mother sends her life into a tailspin, and she must act fast to salvage her reputation or risk losing everything. Teaming up with her new head of security — a former foe turned ally — Skylar embarks on a crucial mission to retrieve backup drives that hold evidence of her troubled childhood.

As lethal foes close in, Skylar is confronted with her darkest memories while striving to shield all she holds dear. Can she outwit her relentless pursuers and obtain the crucial proof, or will she lose everything in a high-risk game of cat and mouse?

A Surprise Favor is the thrilling third entry in The Amagi sci-fi romance series. Fans of heart-pounding adventures, intricate relationships, and nail-biting action won’t want to miss S. J. Pajonas’s captivating narrative.

Please note: THIS SERIES MUST BE READ IN ORDER. It is a true series and plot elements carry through every book, from beginning to end. You will miss too much by reading this series out of order or skipping around. This is also a slow-burn romance series that contains profanity and sexual situations.

My Review

I received a free copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

I really like this series so far and was excited to dive into this third book. This book starts with Skylar setting off for a vacation on Laguna, but things quickly throw her plans in chaos. I liked reading about Skylar and her guys as they have a lot to deal with again in this book. Skylar’s network is growing and I think her network might be complete now, but who knows.

This book is more character focused at first, with Skylar working on her network and connections with the guys. There’s a lot going on as well with the lawsuit starting and some media frenzy. Things get more intense as the danger picks up later in the book. The last few chapters were quite intense as the danger reaches a peak and I can’t wait to see how Skylar will deal with this new danger and resolve things in future books. There’s an interesting twist too with the surprise favor the title refers to.

I liked seeing Skylar grow more comfortable in her relationships in this book. She still has her doubts and her worries, but she allows the guys to be there for her and gets more comfortable with their affections. I liked seeing that and how she changes throughout the series. I liked seeing her network grow and there’s a new guy that gets added to this book.

I liked spending some time on Laguna with Skylar and her guys and it reminded me of Vivian’s visit to the same villa in the Flyght series. I really like the world of this series and getting to spend more time in it after the Flyght series. I feel like it’s both familiar and fresh as we get to see new and familiar places in the Duo Systems.

To summarize: This was another awesome read! There’s something about SJ Pajonas books that works for me and I happily dove into this book. I enjoyed spending more time reading about Skylar and her guys and seeing their relationships develop. Skylar’s network grows in this book when Skylar let’s Takemo in and fourth guy joins too. I liked seeing Skylar grow more comfortable with her network and the affections of her guys. The plot gets quite intense and dangerous for Skylar in the later part and I am looking forward to see how this newest danger will get resolved.
